The incident occurred late Friday night. A senior police officer said, "About eight to nine Bangladesh nationals entered Rongdongai village, fired at the villagers and assaulted some. One of the villagers was stabbed after he intercepted the Bangladesh nationals. ‘What's happening to our youth?': Assam man performs pull-ups hanging off India's longest bridge; viral video prompts public outrage

A video of a dangerous stunt on the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge in Assam's Tinsukia district has gone viral, sparking concern and outrage across social media. In the clip, a young man is seen hanging from the edge of the bridge's railing and doing pull-ups while others film the act on their phones. The stunt took place on the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu, India's longest bridge, and has raised serious questions about public safety. According to NDTV, this wasn't an isolated case. Eyewitnesses and online users claim that several young men were involved in similar risky acts on the bridge, seemingly to record videos for social media. The footage has triggered widespread criticism from local communities and social groups, who are demanding accountability. Many fear that such reckless behaviour could lead to a fatal accident if not curbed immediately. An X account posted the video along with caption, 'What's happening to our youth? Risking life and limb for a few likes and views on social media! This shocking stunt by a young boy on the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Setu (Dhola-Sadiya Bridge)—India's longest river bridge—is not bravery, it's sheer recklessness.' What's happening to our youth? Many are urging authorities to step in before such stunts lead to a tragedy. 'They should be identified and strict action should be taken against them, so that such incidents can be prevented in future,' a local resident told NDTV. Despite the outrage, the local authorities and police are yet to respond officially. The 9.15 km-long Dhola-Sadiya Bridge was inaugurated in 2017 and is situated over River Lohit in Assam. The Rs 2,056 crore bridge, named after singer Bhupen Hazarika, who hailed from Sadia, is 3.55 km longer than the Bandra-Worli Sea link. In yet another stunt aimed at going viral, a flashy convoy of luxury cars, including an Aston Martin and a Mercedes convertible, brought traffic to a standstill on Gurgaon's Dwarka Expressway Monday evening. A now-viral video shows a group of men filming the scene while others lounged inside the high-end vehicles, posing for the camera in the middle of the road. The spectacle caused major chaos and sparked outrage online. By Tuesday, police had stepped in, arresting three individuals and impounding several cars involved in the incident that took place in Sector 108.

5 Bangladeshi Citizens Arrested For Illegal Infiltration In Assam

Guwahati: At least five Bangladeshi citizens were arrested and later pushed back by security personnel on Tuesday in Assam's South Salmara district on the charges of illegal infiltration. Taking to X, Chief Minister Sarma wrote: "With an uncompromising stand on illegal infiltration, @SSalmaraPolice and @BSF_India apprehended 5 Bangladeshi nationals attempting unlawful entry and pushed them back on across the border." With an uncompromising stand on illegal infiltration, @SSalmaraPolice and @BSF_India apprehended 5 Bangladeshi nationals attempting unlawful entry and pushed them back on across the border. @assampolice stays vigilant 24x7 to secure our borders. — Himanta Biswa Sarma (@himantabiswa) May 6, 2025 He also asserted that Assam Police stays vigilant 24x7 to secure the international borders. Earlier, the Chief Minister said: "We have put the security forces on high alert at the international border following the unrest in Bangladesh to check infiltration. The police have detected a good number of illegal immigrants on a daily basis along the international border; however, no Hindu infiltrator from Bangladesh was arrested in the last five months." Mr Sarma argued that the Hindu community people immigrated from Bangladesh 30 or 40 years ago, and the rest of the people have been living in the neighbouring country for different reasons. "Most of the Hindu community people who had the desire to cross the border and come to India had come here 30 or 40 years ago. The rest of the minority people have been living in Bangladesh despite facing large-scale atrocities in the neighbouring country. I guess they have their own reasons for staying there – maybe a love for the soil or patriotism towards Bangladesh," he said. Mr Sarma also stated that the Bangladeshi infiltration spiked up in the last few months due to the collapse of the textile industry in the neighbouring country, leaving many jobless there. He stated that the economy of Bangladesh has collapsed due to unrest, and the majority of the community people were more affected than the minority section. "So far, we have arrested around 1,000 Bangladeshi people in the last few months. They were pushed back immediately after their arrest," said the Chief Minister. He also attributed the illegal infiltration to incentives offered by a few textile industry owners in India.
