British Open: Rory McIlroy produces the most bizarre shot of his life
So, this was weird: Rory McIlroy, playing his second shot from the rough on the 11th at Royal Portrush in Round 3 of the British Open, somehow managed to unearth another ball in mid-swing. Seriously, look at this: Here's another look: The second ball was apparently embedded in the ground a few inches ahead of McIlroy's ball, and popped into the air as McIlroy's shot flew greenward. McIlroy tossed the extra ball aside. For the record, it was a Titleist 4, and it ended up in the hands of a lucky fan: Alas, because McIlroy didn't replace the ball in its original spot, the R&A hit Shane Lowry with a two-shot penalty. (Kidding. Maybe.) McIlroy would go on to bogey the hole. After a hot three-birdies-in-four-holes start, McIlroy cooled off slightly, parring the next six holes before the weirdest bogey at 11.

The Open golf star suffers a meltdown and takes FOUR shots to escape a bunker and cards 10 at hole No4 at Royal Portrush
ROYAL Portrush claimed a scalp when Shaun Norris needed FOUR shots to escape a bunker. The South African went out of bounds from the tee on the fourth hole in the second round of The 153rd Open. So that saw him take three off the tee. He then hit his third stroke into a fairway bunker. The poor fellow needed four attempts to escape the sand, when he eventually found the fairway. But he came up short and left on the approach to the green to find the rough and then chipped on before tapping in a simple putt. So Norris ended up taking TEN strokes on the par 4. He was +1 for the tournament before starting the hole. He walked off the green at +7 and in serious danger of missing the cut. But somehow he did recover his composure and went on to birdie the next hole. Golf fans watching the action unfold, though, took to social media with their reaction to the SEXTUPLE bogey. One wrote: "If this isn't the most Open Championship coded thing ever then I'd be hard pressed to find what is. I present Shaun Norris's scorecard from the 4th hole." Another said: "From level par to 6 over in the blink of an eye. Links golf in a nutshell." Tiger Woods famously hit an atrocious ten at the 2020 Masters - the worst score of his career. Kim leads but Scheffler heads contenders jostling up stacked leaderboard at US PGA
Bogey for Pavon Vegas -6, Pavon -5, Fitzpatrick -5 (6) Matthieu Pavon's long run of bogey-free holes ends. The Frenchman had not dropped a shot for 29 holes but he can't get up and down from just off the sixth green after pushing his iron left from the tee. The 2022 US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick also chipped on from the front edge but makes a much better job of it, clipping into two feet to secure his three.
