Post Office announces plans to relocate town's closing branch to nearby shop
The Post Office has announced plans to relocate its Yarm branch to a new corner shop as its current home prepares to close. The current site at the 3D Leven Park Newsagents at Healaugh Park, will close next month after its operator resigned. It left questions hanging over the future of the unit, owned by supermarket giant Aldi, and the Post Office branch, which is one of two in the town. The Post Office has now confirmed it plans to move from Healaugh Park to the Family Shopper on Mount Leven Road. The Family Shopper on Mount Leven Road (Image: THE NORTHERN ECHO) The new location will have a new postmaster and offer 60 hours of service each week, which is an extra 16 hours compared to the current branch. The Mount Leven Post Office, which is just under a mile away from its current home, would be open from Monday to Saturday from 9am until 7pm. A similar range of products and services will be available at the new location, with plans to improve access into the store for customers. However, Parcelforce express services, foreign currency, and travel money card will not be available at the Mount Leven Post Office if plans are green-lit. The current Yarm Post Office (Image: THE NORTHERN ECHO) These services will instead be available at the Orchard Post Office on Durham Lane in Eaglescliffe. As previously reported, Whitworth Pharmacy, next to Aldi at Healaugh Park, is expected to move into the current Post Office after the corner shop closes on Saturday, September 27. Major changes to Stroud town centre bank from today
CHANGES are afoot for the Santander bank branch in Stroud town centre. Santander - based at Five Valleys Shopping Centre - will be reducing its opening hours from today, Monday, June 30. It will now be open on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30am to 3pm. It will be closed on a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. A spokesperson for Santander said: "We've informed LINK, an independent industry body, about our plans to reduce the opening hours for this branch. "LINK carry out Access to Cash assessments when a bank changes its opening hours, and they publish the outcome of their assessment and any recommendations they make for new cash access services. "We last did a major review of our branches in 2021. "Since then, our customers are choosing to use Mobile, Online and Telephone Banking more, and branches less. "We've now done a more recent review of our branches, looking at where they're located, how they're used and the other local banking options available. "As a result of our review findings, we've decided to reduce the opening hours of our Stroud branch. When deciding to reduce the opening hours, we looked at how the branch is being used and how customers are banking in other ways. "Ninety-two per cent of our branch customers already use a variety of ways to do their banking. "Seventy-five per cent of our branch customers use our Online, Mobile or Telephone Banking services. "Twenty-six per cent of our branch customers also use another Santander branch. "We're aware of the impact of this decision and will be here for you in person to offer support and answer any questions." The nearest Santander branches are in Gloucester and Cirencester, with the latter also changing opening hours today.
