Son set for half marathon charity Bath Leisure Centre swim
The son of a "supportive and gentle" ex-naval officer who passed away from bowel cancer has said the diagnosis brought his family closer together than Clark plans to swim the length of a half marathon in Bath Leisure Centre for charity and in memory of his Clark, who often took part in the Bath Half for Dorothy Hospice, passed away in 2023 after receiving "instrumental" support from the charity for his end of life Clark said he was a man who tirelessly "supported his family and causes in the local community" and wanted to give back in his honour. "I grew up with my dad running the Bath half Marathon every year to raise money for Dorothy House - I was always inspired by dad," he said."I became a dad and not long after that he passed away - he never got a chance to meet his granddaughter."I was able to record a little interview with him. "I can now keep that recording, and my daughter can watch that when she's old enough," he added. Mr Clark said: "We used to go to the Bath leisure Center Pool, and I kind of got a love for the water there."[Doing the challenge] I'll imagine him in the seats watching me and reading a paper looking down and going, 'Oh, keep going'. "It's going to be emotional." Any money raised from the challenge will be donated to Dorothy House and Cancer Kennedy, head of fundraising at Dorothy House Hospice Care said: "Simon's Swim is a phenomenal fundraising challenge."We only receive 20% of our funding from the government, so Simon's generosity ensures that we can provide vital end of life care to other people like his dad."

Doncaster NHS practitioner to swim English Channel for charity
A healthcare worker will take part in a relay swim across the English Channel to support a charity that aims to prevent drowning Bull, an advanced medical practitioner from Doncaster, will take on the 21-mile challenge as part of a team of six women to raise money for SwimTayka, an organisation that teaches children in low-income countries how to Bull, an orthopaedics practitioner at Montagu Hospital, is also raising money for the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) said the other women on her team had been strangers but that their "love of swimming has brought us together and we are so excited for the journey ahead". Ms Bull has previously taken part in the challenging Ironman World Championships and the Ice Swimming World she said this was her first time swimming the Channel and she did not want to let down the charities or her team, who have named themselves the Riptide prepare for the challenge, she has been swimming in either a pool or open water four times a week. 'Truly inspiring' Raising money for the NHS Trust was special, she said, and she hoped it could "improve patient outcomes and working conditions for colleagues".She added the SwimTayka charity was also important to her because she felt "privileged in terms of being able to swim"."I've come across so many people who can't swim, and actually adults as well," she said."It's great they're teaching kids in undeveloped places how to do it - it's a great charity to be involved in."Suzy Brain England OBE, chair of the board at DBTH, said: "Ellie's determination and commitment, both in her clinical role and through this extraordinary fundraising challenge, are truly inspiring."On behalf of the board, we are incredibly proud of Ellie and wish her and the Riptide Racers every success as they take on the English Channel."The team will be on standby to swim between 11 and 18 July, with the exact day being chosen based on the swimming conditions. Bournemouth's pier-to-pier swim cancelled due to safety concerns
A charity swimming event has been cancelled due to concerns over Bournemouth Pier-to-Pier Swim was set to take place on Saturday but the British Heart Foundation, who organise the event, said it made the difficult decision to cancel after consulting with water safety Choudhry from the charity said forecasted wind and weather conditions "would make for a challenging and unsafe swim".She added that all registered participants will have their entry automatically transferred to next year's event, on the 27 June 2026. Participants will also receive guidance on how to either refund or transfer any funds already raised ahead of the 2025 annual 1.4 miles swim between Boscombe and Bournemouth piers in one of Europe's biggest charity open water swimming than 1,000 people took part in last year's swim raising £270,000. 1-Mile Swim and 100M Dolphin Dash Take Place December 7 at Daytona International Speedway DAYTONA, Fla., June 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- CLASH Endurance® and Swim Across America are thrilled to announce two new charity swims in Lake Lloyd, located in the infield of the iconic Daytona International Speedway® on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025. The organization has also supported Memorial Sloan Kettering's landmark trials including the recent Phase II clinical trial published in The New England Journal of Medicine showing an 80% success rate treating MMRd cancers with immunotherapy alone. Almost 200 Marilyn Monroe lookalikes take the plunge for charity swim
Almost 200 Marilyn Monroe lookalikes have made a splash at a Co Dublin beach for a Hollywood-themed charity swim. Sporting retro swimsuits and blonde wigs, swimmers dressed as the famous film star took the plunge at Balcarrick Beach in Donabate for Marilyn's Mater Paddle. Sunday's event, now in its second year, was organised to raised funds for women's cancer care in Dublin's Mater Hospital. The goal was to generate funds to support the hospital in speeding up cancer diagnosis, enhancing treatments and providing world-class care to women from all over Ireland who come through its doors.
