Fáilte Ireland appoints Caroline Bocquel as new CEO
Fáilte Ireland has appointed Caroline Bocquel as its new chief executive. Ms Bocquel, the first woman to led the State tourism agency, will step into the role in November. Paul Kelly , who had led Fáilte Ireland for eight years, stepped down in March to take over as chief executive of the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) . Ms Bocquel, an executive with 20 years' experience, most recently served as chief executive of Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the State agency responsible for the development of the Irish seafood sector. She has been in that position since January 2023, having previously served as BIM's director of corporate services. She is the chairwoman of the audit and risk committee at the Irish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and formerly served as the chief financial officer of aid agency, Goal Global. READ MORE Ms Bocquel said she was honoured to be appointed to the position, describing Fáilte Ireland as 'central to one of Ireland's most vital industries'. 'Tourism supports hundreds of thousands of jobs in communities nationwide, and its sustainable growth is essential to our economic and cultural future,' the incoming chief executive said. She outlined her aim of working to 'ensure Ireland continues to offer world-class experiences while building a resilient, innovative and inclusive tourism sector'. Minister for Enterprise, Peter Burke , said he was 'happy' to approve Ms Bocquel's appointment, adding that 'tourism is of critical importance to the Irish economy'. Mr Burke said Ms Bocquel 'has the strategic skills, development mindset and governance experience needed to support the sustainable growth of our tourism economy into the future'. 'I am confident that Caroline and her team will work closely with the industry and my officials as we develop and support the Irish tourism sector together,' the minister said. Ruth Andrews , chairwoman of the Fáilte Ireland, said the appointment came following 'a highly competitive recruitment process'. Before Ms Bocquel formally assumes the role in November, Paul Keeley, the director of regional development, will serve as interim chief executive.

New Hong Kong Hospital Authority chief vows to foster staff ‘speak-up' culture
The new chief of Hong Kong's public hospitals has vowed to foster a 'speak-up' culture among staff as part of efforts to boost patient safety, while expressing hope that one day no one in the organisation will need to be a whistle-blower. Dr Libby Lee Ha-yun, who took office as the Hospital Authority's chief executive at the start of the month, said on Friday that she hoped services would be offered more from the patients' perspective while further considering their opinions. She said fostering a culture of speaking up was part of the work on improving patient safety. 'How to make staff feel comfortable and then trust there is no consequence even if they speak up,' Lee said. She said the change in culture could start from daily meetings, with staff encouraged to speak their minds. 'We have an open and transparent system for discussion, with logical arguments. Sometimes we need to agree to disagree,' she said.

Swans appoint AFL Hall of Famer Matthew Pavlich as new CEO
The Sydney Swans have replaced one former club captain with another as chief executive, installing Fremantle champion Matthew Pavlich as Tom Harley's replacement. Harley, a premiership captain with Geelong, has joined the AFL executive, opening the door for former Dockers skipper Pavlich, who has largely worked in the media since his retirement from playing in 2016. Inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in 2022, Pavlich, who played 353-games and kicked 700 goals for the Dockers, is a former president of the AFL Players Association and was considered a candidate for the vacant chief executive role there. But he has instead been installed as boss of the Swans who are undergoing a period of transition following the departure of premiership coach John Longmire at the end of 2024. Longmire still works at the Swans but is reportedly at the top of Melbourne's list to replace Simon Goodwin, who was axed on Tuesday. 'The Sydney Swans is a highly successful, well respected and well managed football club,' Pavlich said. 'It is a big decision to uproot the family and bring them across the country to Sydney, but I am thrilled to be offered the opportunity to lead this great and highly professional club. 'I'm looking forward to working with the club's leaders and playing groups to continue the success of this iconic club over the coming years.' 'Not only did he play more than 350 games at the highest level, he served for more than 11 years on the AFL Players' Association board, including three years as president, and was also an adviser on the AFL Laws of the Game Committee for two years,' he said. 'Together with his business pursuits in the sports and entertainment industry, Matthew has stayed involved in the game since his retirement from playing in 2016 and is widely respected across the industry. 'We believe he will fit in well with the Sydney Swans culture and bring his own unique insights and perspectives that will benefit the club moving forward.'

Ofwat chief executive to resign at end of month
The chief executive of Ofwat will stand down at the end of the month, the regulator has regulator said David Black, who became chief executive in April 2022, had decided that now was the time to "pursue new opportunities".Last month, it was confirmed that Ofwat will be scrapped to create a new watchdog as part of an industry overhaul to address Black said he wished the team "every success as they continue their important work".
