‘Housefull 5' Is Fifth Highest-Grossing Film Worldwide This Weekend
The new Hindi film 'Housefull 5' released in theatres with two different climax sequences.
The latest Hindi release, Housefull 5, ranked among the top five highest-grossing films worldwide this week. Headlined by Akshay Kumar, the comedy film earned nearly $16.5 million over the weekend ending June 8, Comscore reported. Akshay Kumar stars in the film alongside Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Bajwa, Sanjay Dutt, Nargis Fakhri and Jacqueline Fernandez.
Tarun Mansukhani's Housefull 5 became the fifth highest-scoring film worldwide for this weekend, earning a three-day total of $16.5 million. Another Indian film - Thug Life - made it among top ten highest-grossing films for the week at the global box office. Mani Ratnam's Tamil movie scored $4.5 million worldwide to become eighth highest-grossing film for the weekend ending June 8.
Living up to trade expectations, Housefull 5 saw an impressive collection at the ticket windows on Friday, its first day at the box office. The film earned $4.6 million at the global box office on June 6. The collections rose significantly on Saturday and Sunday. It crossed $6 million on both days. In the US markets alone, the film made more than $1 million and ranked twelfth among top-scoring films over the weekend. Housefull 5 is already the sixth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025.
In Indian markets, Housefull 5 made an opening collection of $3.3 million and earned $4.5 million and $4.9 million on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Tarun Mansukhani have co-written the film which revolves around a billionaire and his will. Ranjeet reprises his role of Papa Ranjit and plays the rich old man in the fifth instalment of Housefull. Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan and Akshay Kumar essay the roles of men posing as Ranjit's son to inherit his business empire. Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Chunky Panday, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Sanjay Dutt, Soundarya Sharma, Nikitin Dheer, Dino Morea, and Fardeen Khan also play important roles in the film.
The movie is quite true to its world - a world full of slapstick comedy, unfunny jokes, and vulgar and suggestive dialogues. Neither is the story of Housefull 5 any more rational than its predecessors, nor is it any more vulgar or crude. Mansukhani's Housefull 5 relies on cleavages, and judgmental attitude to trigger all the laughs. The kind of laughter you may cherish only if you are a franchise fan. The temporary memory loss used as a stimulant for chaotic turn of events may remind audiences of The Hangover. However, the execution thereafter is nowhere close. The suspense of a murder mystery offers bits and pieces of intriguing moments, but the overall experience is dampened by the lack of a better comedy blend.
The presence of actors such as Nana Patekar adds to the performance score of the film which also benefits from the filmmaker's tributes to old Bollywood films. From Akshay Kumar's rivalry with a parrot (Housefull, 2010) to the slaps he gets from a monkey (Housefull, 2010) and the iconic Bollywood anti-hero from the 90s (Dutt's Khalnayak), there's a bit for all kinds of Bollywood movie buffs to enjoy some nostalgia.
The Housefull journey began in 2010 with Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone headlining Sajid Khan's film. The film opened to wide criticism but managed to post a good box office score. The second instalment came in 2012 and the third one hit theatres in 2016. In 2019, the Housefull 3 was released.
