China's Dragon Boat Festival coincides with second holiday, fuelling boom in family tourism
An unusual convergence of the Dragon Boat Festival and Children's Day in China over the weekend led to a surge in domestic tourism bookings to campsites, amusement parks and other attractions, according to travel platforms. The trend was driven by 'summer escapes' with parent-child orders making up 35 per cent of overall bookings and 'family-friendly' hotel searches increasing by 45 per cent, a company spokeswoman said. Latest figures from Alibaba Group Holding's travel-booking platform Fliggy showed that, as of last Wednesday, bookings for theme park tickets had grown by more than 100 per cent over last year's Dragon Boat Festival weekend, while campsite bookings had shot up 80 per cent. Family hotel packages that include hotels, food and entertainment had risen by 24 per cent over the same period for 2024, the platform said, while activities such as suburban 'water fun' and picnics with children and pets 'are in high demand'. 'This year's holiday coincides with Children's Day, enhancing the appeal of family travel,' Fliggy said in a statement ahead of the May 31-June 2 break. Oman increases Muscat to Salalah flights during Khareef season
Oman Air has announced an increase in its operational capacity during the Khareef (monsoon) season in Dhofar, starting from July 1, with 12 daily flights between Muscat and Salalah as part of its commitment to boosting domestic tourism. The airline stated that an additional 70,000 seats have been added to the Muscat-Salalah route till the end of the year. It represents a 16 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024, to meet rising seasonal demand. Oman Air Muscat to Salalah flights The company confirmed it will maintain its fixed national fares for all scheduled flights during this period, allowing citizens to book round-trip tickets at a flat rate of OR54 ($140) from July 1 to September 5.

Oman Air enhances capacity for Khareef Season with up to 12 flights per day
Muscat: Reinforcing its commitment to supporting domestic tourism, Oman Air has announced a significant increase in capacity for the upcoming Khareef Dhofar. Starting 1 July 2025, the airline will offer up to 12 flights per day between Muscat and Salalah, providing guests with greater flexibility and convenience to experience the unique natural beauty of Southern Oman during this special time of year. To meet growing demand, Oman Air has also added 70,000 additional seats on the Muscat-Salalah route through to the end of the year – an increase of 16% compared to the same period in 2024. As part of its commitment to accessible and affordable domestic travel, Oman Air's fixed national fare will continue to be available across the expanded schedule, with Omani citizens offered return fares at a flat OMR 54 between 1st July and 5th September. There is no limit to the number of national fares allocated, however guests are encouraged to book early to secure their preferred travel dates.
