Manchester United could complete £30m transfer in days as 'deal agreed'
Manchester United are among the contenders to complete a £30million deal for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap as Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton all compete foor the 22-year-old's signature Liam Delap is set to imminently decide on his future after meeting interested clubs. The coming days will likely see the Ipswich Town forward confirm his departure from the club to remain in the Premier League. The ex-Manchester City youngster is available for £30million, due to a relegation clause placed in his contract after moving to Portman Road last summer. Delap was given permission by the Tractor Boys to hold discussions with suitors who are willing to stump up that fee. Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Everton have all made their case to the 22-year-old striker and Delap is now weighing up his options. The transfer window opens for the first time this summer on June 10. The Red Devils are said to have agreed the framework of a deal for the young forward, including an outline of personal terms with Delap's representatives, as first reported by ESPN.. A deal could move quickly should the England youth international choose to move to Old Trafford. Delap scored 12 goals in 36 games in his first Premier League season as Ipswich could not prevent relegation. The striker's reputation only grew however after he completed his £20m move last summer. Delap and his family have a good relationship with United's technical director Jason Wilcox from their time together at Manchester City when Wilcox was in charge of youth teams. The ex-Blackburn midfielder worked throughout the academy before becoming the academy director where he stayed until 2023. Chelsea can also offer some familiarity for Delap, with ex-Manchester City under-21s coach Enzo Maresca in charge at Stamford Bridge. Recruitment director Joe Shield also worked at the Etihad as part of the academy's talent management set-up. Earlier this season, Maresca spoke highly of Delap. The Blues' head coach said: 'In terms of numbers, he's doing fantastic. I think he's scored 12 [Premier League] goals already. 'It's not just in terms of his numbers — [it's] the way he plays and fights and is always there. But he's an Ipswich player. He's an enemy on Sunday because we need to beat them, and then after the game I wish him all the best for the future. 'In the first game, he was quite good for them. We need to deal with that, and we need to do much, much better compared to the first game [the loss at Ipswich].' Everton boss David Moyes have not given up hope of landing Delap however. Speaking last week he said: 'He's spoken to three or four clubs and you know, he's given us the opportunity to pitch our case. 'We're probably a little bit behind the black ball, but you never know what happens.' Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Big Goldson in the Cypriot League Team of the Year … meanwhile we have conceded our highest amount of league goals since 2017-2018. Massive rebuild needed at the back. — The Blue Room (@TheBlueRoom1) May 16, 2025 Goldson played over 300 times for Rangers across a six-year spell at Rangers. We went through many highs and many lows together but throughout the journey I can promise you that I gave this club everything I had. "I tried to lead by example every single day I walked into that building and strived to make the football club a better place than when I signed, it wasn't perfect and neither was I cut I can honestly sit here and look myself in the mirror and say I gave it my all and nobody cared more."

Micah Richards says Arsenal star 'has to have more minutes' against PSG
Micah Richards believes Ethan Nwaneri 'has to have more minutes' if Arsenal need a difference-maker to come on and change the game in their Champions League semi-final second leg with PSG. The Gunners enter tonight's meeting in Paris trailing 1-0 in the tie after Ousmane Dembele scored the only goal of the game in front a subdued Emirates crowd a week ago. The French champions were the deserved victors last Tuesday, but Arsenal did have chances to level through Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, who were both denied by Gianluigi Donnarumma. Mikel Arteta waited until the 83rd minute to make his first change, with Ben White coming on in place of the injured Jurrien Timber. Nwaneri was also introduced, coming on for Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard in the 89th minute, but the 18-year-old academy graduate was not able to make a significant impact in the limited time he was given in north London. I think he's a player that can make an impact in the game because he's very unpredictable,' ex-Manchester City and England defender Richards said on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football. 'We knows he's got quality but I think he needs more minutes. 'If the game is still 0-0 after 60 minutes, then Arsenal have got a real chance, but we know the quality of PSG.' The Gunners were without Thomas Partey in the first leg, with the central midfielder suspended after picking up a late booking in the previous round against Real Madrid. Richards – a lifelong fan of Arsenal – feels Partey's return could free up Declan Rice to have more of an influence on proceedings at the Parc des Princes. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'I think it's different this time around because Thomas Partey is back,' he added. 'You see Declan Rice against Bournemouth, in terms of him being released further up the pitch. 'I really believe it is going to be an open game because Arsenal now haven't got anything to lose, but they can't go all gung-ho in the first 20 minutes, thinking they have to win it. Keep it tight. 'Arsenal, I believe, are a very good side when they're in transition, they're in that low block, and when they go, they go with numbers, Declan Rice released. 'The biggest question for me is how they're going to set up. I think the back four picks itself, he's probably going to go with Partey, Rice and Odegaard, even though Odegaard's form has been in and out.' While Richards has been impressed by Jakub Kiwior's recent performances, he believes Arsenal have badly missed Gabriel Magalhaes' 'arrogance' and 'leadership' at the back. 'In big moments in the Champions League, you need your big players and I think Kiwior has done ever so well up until the first leg against PSG,' he continued. 'I think they've missed Gabriel massively. He's a massive, massive miss. 'He's got that confidence, arrogance and leadership that you need going into a semi-final and that could be a miss. More Trending 'PSG are favourites, we know that. They were probably slight favourites in the first leg, so Arsenal can go out there and just go for it and just see what happens.' The winners will do battle with Inter Milan in this year's final, with the Serie A champions defeating Barcelona in an all-time San Siro classic on Tuesday. Hansi Flick's men looked to be heading for May's showpiece in Munich as they held a 3-2 lead on the night, with two minutes of added time remaining. But Francesco Acerbi forced extra-time with a thunderous strike in the 93rd minute, before Davide Frattesi scored the decisive goal for Inter to send the Milan crowd into raptures. Al-Ahli ends 12-year wait to reach Asian Champions League final
JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, April 30 (AP): Roberto Firmino and Ivan Toney scored as Al-Ahli beat Al-Hilal 3-1 to reach the final of the Asian Champions League. The all-Saudi Arabian semifinal was played before more than 50,000 fans at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium in Al-Ahli's home city. "Al-Ahli was the better team,' Al-Hilal coach Jorge Jesus said. "This was a game between two good teams, and while we had some good periods in the game, they outperformed us.' It took just nine minutes for Al-Ahli to open the scoring as Firmino, who joined the club from Liverpool in 2023, shot home from inside the area. Just before the half-hour, ex-Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez set up Toney for the England striker to make it 2-0. Al-Hilal hit back after 42 minutes as Saudi Arabian international Salem Al-Dawsari scored his 10th goal of the tournament so far. On the hour, Al-Hilal was reduced to 10 men as former Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly was shown a second yellow card. There was still time for former Barcelona and AC Milan star Franck Kessie to see his penalty saved by Hilal's Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. In stoppage time, however, Firas Al-Buraikan made it 3-1 to seal a famous win for Al-Ahli and a first final appearance since 2012. "It was a great night for us and our fans,' Al-Ahli coach Matthias Jaissle said. "We are now just one step away from the title, and all our focus is on that. We don't mind who we play, Al-Nassr or Kawasaki. We will be ready.'
