Former Steelers WR dealing with injury, named to PUP list ahead of training camp

Former Steelers wide receiver Mike Williams has been named to the Chargers' PUP list — as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter. Minutes after breaking the the news on Williams' PUP designation, Schefter addressed what this undisclosed injury means in the long-run for the ex-Steeler, who signed with the Chargers this offseason: "A player can come off PUP at any point in training camp," Schefter wrote on X. "It's just a roster management tool at this time of year. As Jim Harbaugh would say, Mike Williams is working through something." Williams was traded from the Jets to the Steelers at the 2024 trade deadline — but played in just nine games for Pittsburgh, producing 132 receiving yards and one touchdown on nine catches. After returning this offseason to the team that selected him in the 2017 NFL Draft, Williams took a subtle jab at his time with the Steelers — alluding to last season as his "worst year" in the NFL. Williams isn't the only ex-Steeler who's made headlines for injury concerns — as Pittsburgh's former running back Najee Harris was recently involved in a fireworks-related incident in which he sustained a "superficial" eye injury. Steelers 2025 schedule: Top revenge games for Pittsburgh

"The Steelers' 2025 schedule has been fully revealed — and with that in mind, we now have dates for some of Pittsburgh's most anticipated 'revenge' games this season. Whether it's ex-Steelers looking to punish the Steel City for letting them leave, or newly acquired Steelers aiming to bring the heat to their former teams — here are five exciting revenge games for Pittsburgh in 2025. Week 1, at New York Jets PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA - OCTOBER 20: Russell Wilson #3 and Justin Fields #2 of the Pittsburgh Steelers look on as head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers #8 of the New York Jets embrace after the game at Acrisure Stadium on October 20, 2024 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by) This contest reeks of revenge — potentially on both sides of the coin, as ex-Steeler Justin Fields could be looking to prove to his former HC Mike Tomlin that benching him for Russell Wilson was a mistake. Meanwhile, the possible addition of Aaron Rodgers could have the four-time MVP eagerly looking forward to handing Jets HC Aaron Glenn the first loss of his head coaching career. Week 2, vs Seattle Seahawks Oct 17, 2021; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf (14) runs after a pass reception as Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback James Pierre (42) and cornerback Tre Norwood (21) chase during the fourth quarter at Heinz Field. Pittsburgh won 23-20 in overtime. Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports Cam Heyward joked that it's difficult to call Week 2 a revenge game — as DK Metcalf requested the trade — but no one will deny that the athletic WR doesn't have this matchup circled on his calendar. Regardless of the respect he clearly has for the 12th man in Seattle — the Seahawks didn't pay him the massive contract extension, the Steelers did. Metcalf will be looking to show that the grass is truly greener on the other side of the country. Week 6, vs Cleveland Browns Nov 19, 2023; Cleveland, Ohio, USA; Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett (95) sacks Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett (8) during the first quarter at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports As if this AFC North matchup needed any additional fuel to keep the rivalry burning red hot — the Browns went ahead and traded for ex-Steelers QB Kenny Pickett, while also signing former disgruntled Steelers wideout Diontae Johnson this offseason. Pickett and Johnson will reunite in Pittsburgh for the first time in almost two years — but this time donning Cleveland's colors. It's hard not to imagine a chorus of boos welcoming them into Acrisure Field. Week 8, vs Green Bay Packers SNF Nov 12, 2023; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love (10) gets sacked by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt (90) as defensive tackle Keeanu Benton (95) gets a hand on him during the second quarter at Acrisure Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Philip G. Pavely-USA TODAY Sports This revenge game depends entirely on whether or not Rodgers decides to play for the Steelers in 2025 — and considering that many close to the situation remain confident he will, let's just say Rodgers will finally face off against his Green Bay replacement: 2020 first-round QB Jordan Love. Arguably two of the most storied franchises in NFL history, clashing on Sunday Night Football — with Rodgers in a situation similar to Brett Favre at the end of his career — this could easily be the most storyline-filled game of the 2025 season. Week 10, at Los Angeles Chargers SNF Sep 22, 2024; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris (22) runs the ball as Los Angeles Chargers Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Bud Dupree (48) chases during the fourth quarter at Acrisure Stadium. Pittsburgh won 20-10. Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images Another Sunday Night Football matchup shortly after the Packers contest — except this time, an ex-Steeler is looking to dish out some payback. Najee Harris, who left Pittsburgh this offseason to sign with the Chargers, didn't have the kindest comments on his way out of the Steel City. He fired shots at the Steelers' training facility and the lack of identity on offense less than two weeks after signing with Los Angeles — but Pittsburgh's defense may force Harris to take a long look in the mirror if the Steelers walk away victorious at SoFi. CeeDee Lamb says Cowboys have two WR1s — but a Pickens meltdown could prove otherwise

George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb would make a terrifying WR duo — if they can co-exist. Lamb recently spoke highly of his new Cowboys teammate at the Kyler Murray Foundation Celebrity Softball Game on Saturday, and claimed there is zero debate about who the real WR1 is: Advertisement "Oh no, we both [WR1s]," Lamb said. "It ain't no A/B — none of that. It's ones — you look over there, you see one. You look over here, you see another one." This notion seems great on paper — but Steelers fans had a front-row seat to what unfolded when Pickens didn't get the ball enough. Ironically, so did Lamb — as last season, Pickens wore profanity-laced eye black that read "Always F------ Open" against the Cowboys in Week 5. He had just three receptions for 26 yards. Following the game, the former disgruntled receiver ripped on the face mask of then-Cowboys CB Jourdan Lewis, pulling him to the ground — another rash, immature decision that cost him over $10,000 in fines. He also played second fiddle to Steelers WR Calvin Austin III in the Week 12 loss to Cleveland — where Pickens's immature antics caused him to give up on a last-ditch Hail Mary play to instead focus on fighting Browns CB Greg Newsome II. Advertisement If the Cowboys can manage to feed Pickens the ball, things could work out just fine. But if he isn't treated like the true WR1 — chaos is inevitable.
