Former Steelers WR dealing with injury, named to PUP list ahead of training camp
Minutes after breaking the the news on Williams' PUP designation, Schefter addressed what this undisclosed injury means in the long-run for the ex-Steeler, who signed with the Chargers this offseason:
"A player can come off PUP at any point in training camp," Schefter wrote on X. "It's just a roster management tool at this time of year. As Jim Harbaugh would say, Mike Williams is working through something."
Williams was traded from the Jets to the Steelers at the 2024 trade deadline — but played in just nine games for Pittsburgh, producing 132 receiving yards and one touchdown on nine catches. After returning this offseason to the team that selected him in the 2017 NFL Draft, Williams took a subtle jab at his time with the Steelers — alluding to last season as his "worst year" in the NFL.
Williams isn't the only ex-Steeler who's made headlines for injury concerns — as Pittsburgh's former running back Najee Harris was recently involved in a fireworks-related incident in which he sustained a "superficial" eye injury.
