No. 1 Texas A&M forces decisive Regional Championship game

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (FOX 44) — It took getting out of a bases-loaded seventh inning and extra innings for the Aggies but Texas A&M Softball lives to fight another day, or game, after Kennedy Powell's 2-RBI single helped the Aggies to a thrilling 14-11 win in extra innings on Saturday afternoon. Liberty took a 6-0 lead early after two innings in large part due to a grand slam from Roupe with Emiley Kennedy's afternoon done after just one inning pitched, giving up four earned runs. Sydne Peters pitched just .2 innings, giving up two earned runs before Kate Munnerlyn entered the circle. The Aggies got on the board in the third inning before KK Dement lit a fire under the Aggies with a solo shot to left in the fourth, triggering a six run inning to give A&M the lead back, 7-6. Texas A&M extended the lead to 10-6 with a three-run fifth, leaving it to Munnerlyn to close it out in the circle. However, the task of extinguishing the Flames proved to be difficult no matter who was in the circle as Liberty scored four runs in the final inning to tie the game at 11 before Sydney Lessentine entered to get the Aggies out of the inning with the bases loaded and send it to extras. Powell took advantage of a bases-loaded spot for the Aggies driving in Kramer Eschete and Allie Enright on a base hit in the top of the eighth to give A&M the lead once again. Koko Wooley brought in Midway alum Kelsey Mathis to put the Aggies up three heading into the bottom half. Texas A&M will face Liberty in a winner-take-all Regional Championship on Saturday night with the winner advancing to the NCAA Super Regional Round next week. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
