Isco suffers new leg fracture in pre-season friendly

Isco suffered the same injury in May last year before returning in December. (EPA Images pic) MADRID : Real Betis's playmaker Isco has fractured a tibia for the second time, the Seville club announced on social media today. The 33-year-old former Real Madrid star broke his leg in a friendly against Malaga yesterday. The club said the injury was a 'new non-displaced fracture to the middle third of his left fibula'. Isco, who won the Champions League four times during his spell at Real Madrid, suffered the same injury in May 2024. He returned last December and helped Betis to sixth in La Liga, and qualification for the Europa League, as well as skippering them in the Europa Conference League final where they lost 4-1 to Chelsea. His form earned a recall to the Spanish national team for the first time since 2019. He came on as a substitute and scored in the penalty shootout loss to Portugal in the Nations League final.

Isco's injury jinx strikes again as Real Betis midfielder fractures leg

Real Betis midfielder Isco faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines after fracturing his leg in a pre-season friendly against Malaga, dealing a cruel blow to the Spanish club who qualified for the Europa League. The 33-year-old was caught near the ankle and forced to limp off the pitch during Saturday's match, with medical tests confirming a broken fibula. Isco had suffered a broken leg in May last year which needed two surgeries to fix. "Following medical tests, he has a new, non-displaced fracture in the middle third of his left fibula. This is a new traumatic injury unrelated to the previous injury, which has been resolved," Real Betis said in a statement on Sunday. "The player will undergo conservative treatment in the coming weeks, and his return will depend on the progress of the injury." Despite missing several games, he was instrumental last season with 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions as Betis finished sixth in LaLiga and reached the final of the Conference League, which they lost to Chelsea. Isco was named player of the season in the Conference League and earned a return to the Spain squad after a six-year absence when he was called up for the Nations League.

Influencer Breaks Spine Attempting Nicki Minaj Stiletto Challenge

Originally appeared on E! Online Never try to walk a mile in Nicki Minaj's heels. Russian influencer Mariana Barutkina lived out the cautionary tale after trying the viral stiletto challenge—which sees users attempt to balance in heels while striking a pose to Minaj's 'High School'— and subsequently fracturing her back just weeks after giving birth. 'I decided to start blogging,' Mariana wrote in an August 1 Instagram post alongside the video of her toppling off her kitchen counter, 'and here I am leaving the doctor diagnosed with Th9 compression bending uncomplicated fracture of the body.' As the influencer joked, 'the irony? Karma? Or just life, which always tests our strength at the most unexpected moment.' Mariana's spill saw her attempting to balance on a saucepan and a canister of baby formula stacked on top of a kitchen counter. Although she managed to maintain her balance for a few minutes, the video quickly took a turn when she fell backward off the high countertop. More from E! 'Because of one video, which was unsuccessfully filmed, I woke up a popular person,' Mariana added in a subsequent post. 'More than 50 people sent me my reel from different publications today.' And the mommy blogger assured that she and her newborn were doing fine in light of the fall. 'I'm doing great, following the guidelines and now living in 'star' status,' Mariana continued. 'Whoever worries about my child is also calm, he has two nannies and while I was filming one of them was with him.' Mariana's fall is far from the only accident to go viral as of late. Earlier this summer, a Savannah Bananas baseball player Robert Anthony Cruz had a taste of social media stardom after a failed attempt at a backflip during a live CNN broadcast. As the clip made rounds around the internet, Robert assured he was not only OK—but in on the joke. 'Hey guys, for the record you have my full permission to laugh,' he wrote in an Instagram Story July 24. 'I can't not laugh every time I watch it, too. With the sound, it's crazy.'
