OIC Holds Workshop on Water Use Management for Agriculture in Member States
Mohamed Mandour The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in collaboration with relevant OIC institutions, is convening a Workshop on "Water Use Management for Agriculture in OIC Member States" from 26 to 28 May 2025 at the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) Headquarters in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco. The Workshop, which attracted participants from more than 20 Member States aims to provide a collaborative platform for OIC Member States to identify and address key challenges hindering the sustainable management and utilization of water resources in the agricultural sector. Through enhanced dialogue, exchange of best practices, and capacity-building, the event seeks to strengthen resilience in agricultural systems, improve food security, and promote intra-OIC cooperation in sustainable water management. In his opening remarks, Abdunur Sekindi, Director General of the Department of Science and Technology, underlined that water scarcity remains a critical issue facing many OIC Member States. He emphasized the urgent need for collective action, solidarity, and strengthened collaboration to address these shared challenges. OIC Emphasizes Important Role of IsDB Group
Mohamed Mandour In his speech at the opening session of the 50thAnnual Meeting of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, which was held in Algiers, the capital of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Hissein Brahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), emphasized the important role of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and its entities in helping OIC Member States to diversify their economies. While drawing the attention of the audience to the continued barbaric attacks by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territory, the Secretary-General also underscored the importance of strengthening intra-OIC economic cooperation in building economic resilience in the Member States. Within this context, he singled out the role that the IsDB Group plays in supporting the efforts of OIC Member States to address their developmental challenges. The opening ceremony was also addressed by Nadir Larbaoui, Prime Minister of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria; Abdelkrim Bouzred, Minister of Finance of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria/Chairman of the 50th Annual Meeting of the IsDB Board of Governors; and Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, President of IsDB Group. Under the theme 'Diversifying Economies, Enriching Lives', the 50th Annual Meeting of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group started on 19th May, 2025, in Algiers, the capital of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, and it will conclude on 22nd May, 2025. The meeting is considering administrative, financial, and operational activities of the IsDB Group. OIC Holds 47th Session of Islamic Commission for Economic, Cultural
Mohamed Mandour The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is holding the 47th Session of the Islamic Commission for Economic, Cultural, and Social Affairs at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The meeting started on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, will end on 17th April 2025. At the Opening Session, H.E. the Secretary-General of the OIC, Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha delivered a speech noting that the success of the OIC activities for the next year will rely on the guidance and support of this meeting. He added that since the last 50th Session of CFM held in Yaoundé, Republic of Cameroon, on 29th-30th August 2024, the OIC, has continued to accord priority attention to the execution of its resolutions in such domains as economic, science and technology, cultural, social and family affairs, youth and sports. In the area of economic cooperation, the Secretary-General expressed his pleasure to report that the intra-OIC trade share in the overall foreign trade of Member States increased from 19.16% in 2023 to 20.36% in 2024 adding that 30 OIC Member States have now attained the target of 25% intra-OIC trade. He stressed that the cooperation among OIC Member States efforts in the domain of agriculture and food security have received an adequate boost through the development of the Draft Strategic Plan for Food Security in the OIC Member States aimed at contributing more effectively to increasing agricultural productivity, rural development and food security in OIC countries, as well as, enhancing intra-OIC cooperation in this domain. Hissein Taha confirmed the importance of the advancement of science and technology, higher education, health, environment, and water resources across OIC Member States. Mr. Hissein Taha assured that the General Secretariat has continued to strive towards the realization of the Visions and Mission of the OIC and its leaders with regard to the fields of culture, social and family affairs, youth, and sports. In the cultural domain, the OIC Secretary General mentioned that the General Secretariat is working closely with OIC Member States and institutions to organize joint cultural events, and follow up on the implementation of the Resolution relating to the establishment of the Platform for the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Heritage in the Muslim World, in coordination with the concerned institutions. With regard to intra-OIC cooperation in the social domain, the Secretary-General expressed his pleasure to report that the General Secretariat continues its efforts to follow up on the implementation of the recommendations, including the Jeddah Document on Women's Rights in Islam, emanating from the International Conference on Women in Islam held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in November 2023. During the 3-days Session of the Islamic Commission, the representatives of the OIC Member States will review the draft resolutions in the fields of economic, science and technology, cultural, social and family affairs, youth and sports, received from the Member States, the outcome of which will be submitted to the 51st Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), to be held in Istanbul, Republic of Türkiye, in June 2025, for final approval.

OIC Secretary-General emphasizes the importance of ICDT programs
In his message to the 42nd Meeting of the Islamic Centre for the Development of Trade (ICDT), which was held in Casablanca, Kingdom of Morocco, on 9th-10th April, 2025, H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), highlighted the importance of ICDT programs in promoting intra-OIC trade and investment. The Secretary-General also drew attention to the need to focus on specific areas that ICDT should prioritize in its program of activities in the coming year. He urged OIC Member States to increase their support to ICDT in order to enable it to continue to increase its activities towards promoting intra-OIC trade and investment. The 42nd Meeting of the Board of Directors reviewed the activities of the ICDT during 2024 and the execution of the budget for the financial year 2024. It also examined the Work Program for 2026 and the Draft Budget of the ICDT for the financial year 2026.
