Videos: Heavy hailstorm blankets N4 near Belfast
Heavy hail fell in the Belfast area of Mpumalanga yesterday evening, causing an accident in which one person was injured when a truck and four vehicles collided. According to Middelburg Observer, the hailstorm caused the N4 roadway to become extremely slippery. The hail resulted in a thick ice blanket which caused vehicles to slide across the roadway. David Ross, from a local towing service, says it was surprising that some motorists were still driving at high speeds even though the road was slippery due to the hail. Motorists reported heavy hail from the Wonderfontein area up until beyond the Alzu filling station along the N4 highway. Motorists shared videos and photos of the thick layer of hail that covered the road. The road has since been cleared. @middelburgobserver Just before 17:00 today (August 16), a hailstorm hit the N4 outside Belfast between the Puma Garage and Silos at Wonderfontein. The slippery road caused a crash involving a truck and four cars. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. The road is still icy, drive with caution! ♬ original sound – MiddelburgObserver @middelburgobserver Middelburg tow-in service was on scene at Wonderfontein after the hailstorm crash. He showed in videos how thick the hail still was on the road until late tonight. Scene now cleared. ♬ original sound – MiddelburgObserver Breaking news at your fingertips… Follow Caxton Network News on Facebook and join our WhatsApp channel. Nuus wat saakmaak.
