Sugar Rises on Concern Over Cane Yields in Top Grower Brazil
Raw sugar futures advanced for the first time in four days on concern over weaker cane yields in the biggest grower, Brazil. 'Even though cane-crushing numbers are massive now as we are approaching the peak of the season, lower yields constantly reported might push the Brazilian crop in the fourth quarter to a sudden death,' said Claudiu Covrig of Covrig Analytics. Mills may run out of cane earlier than expected, he said.

India Plans to Allow Sugar Exports Next Season to Avoid Surplus
India may permit local mills to export sugar in the next season that starts in October as early signs suggest a bumper cane harvest, according to a person familiar with the matter. The crop looks promising across key producing regions, helped by higher acreage and ample rains, the person said, asking not to be named as the information isn't public. As local consumption is set to rise only marginally, continued higher-than-average precipitation in the current monsoon period could lead to a sugar surplus, the person said.

Sugar Extends Gains as a Recent Price Dip Draws in Buyers
Raw sugar climbed for a second day on optimism that recent declines would draw in buyers and stronger crude prices may prompt mills to divert more cane to make ethanol. The most-active contract rose as much as 0.9% to 16.82 cents per pound, the highest level since June 4. Higher fuel costs can increase demand for ethanol, which is also made from sugar cane in countries like Brazil and India.
