What is Trump's ‘Golden Dome'? Missile defence shield explained
President Trump has unveiled plans for his 'Golden Dome' defence shield, an ambitious scheme to build a network of satellites, space-based interceptors and missile batteries covering the entire US.
Under the plans American weapons would be deployed in space for the first time to intercept incoming missiles as the US races to keep up with the evolving threat from Russia and China. An initial $25 billion has been set aside for the plan, a fraction of the estimated $500 billion cost. General Michael Guetlein with the US Space Force will lead the Golden Dome project.
