Desperate hunt for missing Brit tourist, 59, who vanished off Greek beach as major search underway
COPS are desperately hunting for a Brit tourist who vanished off a beach in Greece. A massive search operation is now underway to find the 59-year-old tourist who suddenly disappeared from Ofryni beach in Kavala. 2 2 A Silver Alert was issued after authorites failed to locate the woman. Authorities confirmed to The Sun that the woman is British national identified as Michele Ann Joy Bourda. They believe her life could be in danger. Greece's Hellenic Coast Guard has confirmed to The Sun that a search operation via sea continues. The woman was last seen wearing a two-piece beaded swimsuit, yellow beach shoes, and red sunglasses. The Sun has approached the UK Foreign Office for a comment. It comes after another Brit tourist vanished from a Greek holiday island last month after his car was found abandoned. Cops have now launched a search and rescue operation to find the Brit man, 60, who was last seen in the Tristomo village of Karpathos. It is understood that the Brit was staying in a rented room in Olympos, Karpathos, which is near Rhodes island. He had also rented a car for his transportation, which authorities found parked and locked in the Korfasia area of Avlonas, local media reports. According to security sources, a team of eight police officers with four vehicles, firefighters and members of the Greek coast guard have launched an investigation. The Brit's landlord informed authorities that she last spoke to him on the morning of June 27. It comes after a Brit tourist tragically died while on a sun lounger in a Greek paradise island. The 73-year-old man was reportedly found by fellow holidaymakers in Agia Paraskevi, Skiathos, last week. Emergency services were then called after the lifeguard attempted to perform first aid on the Brit. A local doctor tried to revive the man for 40 minutes - but unfortunately was unable to do so. Earlier this month, another Brit tourist died at a popular Greek island. The 68-year-old holidaymaker was found dead after he reportedly went swimming and lost consciousness on the island of Rhodes, local media reported. Officers from the Central Port Authority of Rhodes rushed to the scene of the incident at the popular tourist spot of Lindos. The man was rushed to the Archangelos Health Centre, but was sadly pronounced dead. And last August, a 71-year-old Brit tourist was pulled unconscious from the sea in Greece. Police say search aircraft are best chance of finding German tourist lost in Australian Outback
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Police believe search aircraft are their best chance of finding German tourist Carolina Wilga a day after her van was found abandoned in the Australian Outback, an officer said Friday. The last known sighting of the 26-year-old backpacker was June 29 at a general store in the wheat farming town of Beacon, 320 kilometers (200 miles) northeast of the Western Australia state capital Perth. Beacon had a population of 123 during the 2021 census. Her friends and family have not heard from her since. The discovery of her van Thursday in wilderness in the Karroun Hill Nature Reserve, around 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of Beacon, had focused the search area, Western Australia Police Force Acting Insp. Jessica Securo said. 'The search has resumed in that Karroun Hill area. It will be concentrating around her vehicle and tracks that offshoot that area,' Securo told Australian Broadcasting Corp. 'Given the dense area, our aerial support is our best chance of finding her,' Securo added, referring to the dense forest. The overnight temperature was 2.6 degrees Celsius (36.7 degrees Fahrenheit) in the area with no rain. Police believe backpacker became lost Police believe Wilga became lost and is not the victim of crime. Australian serial killer Ivan Milat, who died in prison in 2019, notoriously kidnapped and murdered seven backpackers from 1989 to 1992 including three Germans, two Britons and two Australians. 'The terrain is Outback country and there's large rocky outcrops. Although there's a number of tracks, you can see how it would be easy to become lost or disorientated in that area if you didn't know it well,' Securo said. Wilga's van, a 1995 Mitsubishi Delica Star Wagon, was 35 kilometers (22 miles) from any major tracks, Securo said. The van, which has solar panels and reserves of drinking water, had recovery boards under its rear wheels that are used to give bogged vehicles traction. Securo couldn't say whether the van became bogged or broke down. 'It appears that as she was driving, she's likely to have become lost and then the car has suffered mechanical issues,' Securo said. 'It's hard to say how much she has taken' with her from the van, Securo said. 'We do know that she was planning to travel throughout regional W.A. and do some exploring through there,' Securo added. State premier says police are moving swiftly Western Australian Premier Roger Cook said 'police are throwing a lot of resources' at the search. 'They've moved swiftly now, and the search is ongoing and is resource-intensive. We want to bring Carolina home, and the police are doing everything they can,' Cook told reporters. The reserve where Wilga is believed lost covers more than 300,000 hectares (740,000 acres). Wilga has been traveling in Australia for two years and working at Western Australian mine sites. Wilga's mother, Katja Will, who lives in the city of Castrop-Rauxel in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, has appealed for public help to find her daughter. 'Carolina is still sorely missed. If anyone has any information, please contact the police. Please keep your eyes open!!!' Will said on a post on an Western Australian Police Force social media site.

American tourist, 40, missing in Mexico after being dragged out to sea as Canadian man, 31, found dead
THE body of a missing tourist has washed up on a popular Mexican beach as fears grow for a fellow holidaymaker who vanished alongside him. Canadian Braydon Bretzer, 31, and American Chris Ankele, 40, both disappeared after being pulled away by a strong current while swimming in notoriously dangerous waters. 5 5 Authorities said the pair were last seen off Zicatela Beach in Puerto Escondido on Mexico's southern Pacific coast. Both were caught being pulled away by the choppy waters and drifted out into the sea before vanishing without a trace, investigators said. A local Oaxaca Civil Protection unit and a team of lifeguards desperately launched a search and rescue mission but couldn't find either of the men. Tragic footage was later recorded on Monday afternoon showing Bretzer's body floating in the water. An emergency boat rushed out to bring the man to safety but he was pronounced dead due to drowning, according to initial reports. Ankele's body is yet to be recovered. Tributes to Bretzer, a former youth football coach and freelance marketing consultant, have been paid by his friends back home in Saskatoon. Graeme Bouvier said: "On the night of May 25th, we lost a very special friend, brother, son and teammate. "Braydon's sudden passing has left a deep hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. "Braydon lived life to the fullest. He had a contagious energy, and a heart that made space for everyone." A GoFundMe page has also been set up by Bouvier to help fly Bretzer's body back home to Canada and to give his family any additional support. It has raised over $8,500 so far. The San Pedro Mixtepec mayor's office said in a statement on Thursday evening: "Search efforts continue to determine the whereabouts of the second tourist, following the protocols established in the sea search plan. "The municipal government reiterates its commitment to addressing this emergency and maintains ongoing coordination with state and federal authorities." Zicatela Beach is known as a bustling tourist hotspot and is popular with surfers due to its massive waves. But due to the dangerous conditions and often fast flowing waters, holidaymakers are urged not to swim for their own safety. Braydon lived life to the fullest. He had a contagious energy, and a heart that made space for everyone Graeme Bouvierclose friend of Braydon Bretzer A number of deadly trips to the beach in recent years have resulted in these warnings being constantly repeated to travellers. In April, a 22-year-old Miguel Robles drowned at the beach with his brother Benjamín Robles, 26, having to be rescued by horrified onlookers and lifeguards. And in May 2023, Romanian holidaymaker Andra Kitsu, 33, drowned despite warning flags reminding visitors to stay out of the water. Last month, another missing tourist was also found dead just days after desperately trying to save his friend from a riptide during their vacation in Mexico. Alejandro Gonzalez, 20, vanished while swimming in the ocean after he managed to save his female friend who was in difficulty. His body was found after a three-day search. A loving mum was also killed in a Mexican beach horror story after a shark tore off her leg while she lifted her five-year-old to safety. Maria Fernandez Martinez Jimenez, 26, was just 65ft from the shore when she was savaged by the beast at Melaque Beach in the state of Jalisco. 5 5
