Foley City Council candidates to discuss issues in forum
FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — Candidates for the Foley City Council contested seats will answer questions and discuss issues during a forum. 'A big boom': Witness describes deadly crash in Gulf Shores after Orange Beach police chase According to a City of Foley news release, the event, hosted by the South Baldwin Common Sense Campaign, is set for Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Foley Civic Center. A moderator will ask questions and the candidates will have a time limit to answer questions, the release said. Candidates will have three minutes to make an opening statement, then 90 seconds to answer each question asked by the moderator, 30 seconds to answer follow up questions, and finally an additional 90 seconds to make a closing statement. Four of five city council seats have at least two people vying for the seat. Mayor Ralph Hellmich is running uncontested for reelection. District 1 is between incumbent Wayne Trawick and Barry Hughes. District 2 has three candidates: incumbent Vera Quaites, Timothy 'Tim' Lower, and Donald Barnett. Roddy Burkle is running uncontested for district 3. District 4 is between Larry Engel and Phillip Hinesley. District 5 incumbent Charles Ebert III will run against Derrick Perdue. Those who attend are asked not to applause or make any responses during the event.
