Some passengers select their cruises based on the ports the ship will visit, so naturally, news of port cancellations can be difficult to happens when a cruise line cancels a port stop? Typically, cruise lines will try to replace a canceled port of call with another, but that's not always possible. In the case of Royal Caribbean's latest wave of cruise itinerary changes, not all of the altered cruises will get a replacement for the dropped port of call. Good morning, here's your cruise news for Thursday, July 31st. More port cancellations — Royal Caribbean is suspending all visits to Labadee, Haiti through October citing safety concerns. Now the U.S. State Department maintains a Level 4 Do Not Travel Advisory to the area due to gang violence and civil unrest. 23 itineraries across five ships including Adventure, Freedom, Icon, Oasis and Radiance will all skip the private destination. Some cruises will replace the stop with ports like Nassau or Grand Turk while others will add sea days. Royal Caribbean first canceled calls to Labadee back in the Eclipse cruise ship gets blocked by protesters in Amsterdam And tensions are rising in Amsterdam over cruise ships. Environmental activists from Extinction Rebellion used small boats and inflatable unicorns to block Celebrity Eclipse from docking at the city's cruise terminal, delaying the vessel carrying nearly 2,800 passengers. The protest which started around 4:30 a.m.; ended with five arrests after police eventually cleared the waterway. Protesters say cruise ships harm the environment and want them to be banned from Amsterdam altogether. This follows a growing push to limit or relocate cruise operations away from the city center. Carnival Corp. loses appeal over Princess Cruises negligence case And Carnival Corporation has lost its appeal over the Ruby Princess COVID outbreak. An Australian court upheld a ruling that found Carnival negligent and misleading for allowing the ship to sail in March of 2020 despite knowing COVID-19 risks. Now the Ruby Princess became a major source of Australia's early cases with 28 deaths and over 660 passengers infected. A class action lawsuit confirmed Carnival failed in its duty of care and the company could now face millions in passenger payouts.
