‘Prolific offender' facing 231 charges following rash of reported vehicle break-ins and thefts

Investigators say one suspect is responsible for more than 50 reported thefts from vehicles in Kitchener and Waterloo. In May, the Direct Action Response Team (DART) for Waterloo Regional Police began reviewing vehicle break-in cases. They looked more than 120 incidents dating back to January 2025. Dozens were tied back to what police identified as a 'prolific offender.' A 44-year-old man from Waterloo was charged with a total of 231 offences, including theft from a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a credit card, trespassing by night, and failing to comply with a release order.

Charges laid after stolen, cloned credit cards used at Calgary businesses

Two people are facing charges after stolen and cloned credit cards were used at Calgary businesses. The pair – a 47-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman – are facing 11 charges in total. Police say the male is a prolific offender who was being monitored by police as part of his release. It was while monitoring the man that officers uncovered the alleged criminal activity. Police arrested him on July 23 when he allegedly tried to make a fraudulent transaction inside a northwest Calgary store. As part of the investigation, officers searched a truck, seizing approximately $3,200 worth of pharmaceutical drugs, an identification embossing machine and break and enter tools. Police allege the man was responsible for at least seven fraudulent transactions between May and July. Anyone with information about the cause is asked to call police at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
