Brit dad was in a RELATIONSHIP with daughter-in-law who he 'tried to drown in Florida resort pool' in will row
A British businessman accused of trying to drown his daughter-in-law in a swimming pool in Florida was in romantic relationship with her, the Daily Mail can reveal. Mark Gibbon, 62, from Buckinghamshire, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly holding Jasmine Wyld's head under water during a row over his will. His nine-year-old granddaughter was allegedly forced to fight him off to stop him drowning her mother in a pool on their American holiday at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, near DisneyWorld. Gibbon and Jasmine, a 33-year-old hairdresser, began arguing over the 'stipulations of his will', according to US police. He pushed Jasmine's head 'under the water and held her down multiple times', according to the arrest affidavit. Now we can reveal that Gibbon and Ms Wyld have been in a relationship for the last two years after both of their relationships broke down. Gibbon has split from his wife and lives alone at their £800,000 semi-detached home in Beaconsfield. Meanwhile, Ms Wyld separated from Gibbon's son Alex, with whom she shares two young children, in 2021. A family source told us that Alex and his father no longer speak - and last year Alex was jailed for trying to drive a car at his estranged father. They revealed: 'Mark and Jasmine have been seeing each other for a few years, but they've never admitted it. 'Alex and his dad don't speak at all. There have been a number of issues within the family. 'He feels an awful betrayal at how his dad has struck up a relationship with the mother of his two children. 'Mark and Jasmine do an awful lot together and they go away on holiday with the children a couple of times every year. 'She is always round at his house. She has a place of her own but she's nearly always in Beaconsfield with Mark. 'They went to Florida two years ago and have been to Budapest where she posted pictures of them together like a couple. 'I don't know for sure what happened on this holiday and why Mark has apparently tried to drown her. 'But I have been told that Jasmine was unhappy that they have been in a relationship for a few years and she is not named in his will.' Gibbon runs a successful lighting firm called MRG Lighting has working on television and film sets, as well as on music videos for Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Paloma Faith. He owns a smart semi detached house in Beaconsfield, which he bought for in 2023. Set up in 2023, MRG Lighting Limited had reserves of £122,600 in its first year of trading. The source added: 'Mark is worth about £800,000 and he is leaving everything to his grandchildren. He's a successful businessman, who runs his own company and owns his own home. His will has caused some tension in the family.' Alex, 34, had worked with his father and was appointed a director with Ultralight UK Limited in 2019. He was involved in the production of The Queen's Christmas Day speech a few years ago. However, he left the company in 2023 and is said to have had a blazing row with his father in the street afterwards. According to the family source, he attempted to drive away but his father jumped in front of him to stop him and was hit by the car. Alex pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and harassment without violence. He was sentenced in February 2024 to two years' prison and given a three year driving ban as wll as a five year restraining order. His father regularly holidays with Ms Wyld and his two grandchildren. The pair travelled together with the children - but no other relatives - to Florida together in 2023 and visited Budapest in Hungary in December the same year. Ms Wyld - who has since returned back home from the U.S - has posted several photographs of her with her father-in-law on trips abroad. He has also posted images of them all together including a treasured snap of the family visiting a pumpkin patch before Halloween last year. Ms Wyld has been spending an increasing amount of time staying over at his house with the children, says the family source. Neighbours in Buckinghamshire today told of their shock. One said: 'When I read that he'd been arrested on suspicion of attempting to drown his daughter-in-law I just couldn't believe it. 'She spends a lot of time at his home with her children and Mark absolutely dotes on his grandkids. They go on holiday together regularly and are with each other a lot. 'He's a lovely guy - or so it seems to us - I didn't think he was capable of such a thing. He's never displayed any anger or violence while living here.' According to Polk County Sheriff's Office in Florida, Mr Gibbon had shoved Ms Wyld's head under the water of the pool following a row last Sunday and pushed his granddaughter away when she jumped in to stop him. He allegedly only stopped the attempted drowning when two neighbouring sisters saw what was happening and shouted over that they had called the Sheriff's Office. He was taken into custody around 5.19pm on August 3 and is understood to have told police he had been drinking and admitted to pushing his daughter-in-law under the water but denied trying to drown her. The police report revealed that Ms Wyld 'advised that she could not breathe and believed that she was going to drown. The victim advised that she had to fight Mark in order to get away from him and from under the water but he kept pushing her back under.' Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said: 'It's great that Polk County draws visitors from all across the world, but we expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us, just as we expect our lifelong residents to do the same. 'Because Mr Gibbon couldn't control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.' Mr Gibbon has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and battery. He is next due in court on September 9.

13% of Irish men attempted romantic relationship with AI in last 12 months
Thirteen per cent of Irish men have tried a romantic relationship with an AI chatbot in the last 12 months. A survey from Pure Telecom found women a lot less likely to do this, at seven per cent. Advertisement The age group most likely to have had a romantic relationship with a bot was 25-34. Tara Logan Buckley, Chartered Clinical Psychologist, told Newstalk that she has seen older people reaching for apps to find a connection. "People that live within rural communities, people that maybe feel isolated and people may have gone through maybe bereavement in their life or divorces, that they're really not feeling those emotional connections and they're also so I think we're actually going to see a big rise within those kind of older age brackets as well within the near future," Ms Logan Buckley said. Meanwhile, the survey said one tenth of Irish adults believe that relationships with an AI chatbot would be a good way to practice for a real one. Advertisement Figures showed that 370,000 adults in Ireland have tried a romantic relationship with a bot. Tara Logan Buckley, Chartered Clinical Psychologist, said that it is not hard to see someone fall in love with "the illusion of connection" in AI. "The human brain is wired for connection, and if something listens to you, it remembers your preferences, it responds, it's kind, it's warm, it remembers the things you like to flirt with, your preferences for things, your brain will bond with this even if it's not real. One in five people said a partnership with an AI would be less complicated than a real one.

Florida Rep. Cory Mills accused of revenge porn threat after breakup with beauty queen
U.S. Rep. Cory Mills, a Central Florida Republican, has been accused by a beauty pageant titleholder of threatening to release intimate videos and private images of her after she ended their romantic relationship, according to a report filed with law enforcement in July. Mills on Wednesday denied the allegations, which were first made by the woman in a July 14 report filed with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office in North Florida. "These claims are false and misrepresent the nature of my interactions," Mills said in a statement. "I have always conducted myself with integrity, both personally and in service to Florida's 7th District." The sheriff's office forwarded the information to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which is now handling the case, Sgt. Steven Khachigan, a spokesman for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, said in an email. No charges have been filed. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Wednesday that it doesn't comment on any active inquiries or investigations. In his statement, Mills said the allegations were being pushed by a former political opponent, Lake County commissioner Anthony Sabatini, who ran against him in a 2022 GOP primary for the House seat. "Anthony Sabatini is weaponizing the legal system to launch a political attack against the man who beat him in the primary, using his corporate legal office to push a narrative built on lies and flawed legal arguments — all to score political headlines," Mills said. Mills said he wouldn't comment further. "My team and I will fully cooperate to ensure the truth is made clear. I remain focused on serving my constituents and advancing America First policies," Mills said in the statement. The 25-year-old woman told sheriff's office investigators that she started a romantic relationship with Mills in 2021, and it ended in February. At the time they met, Mills was still married but had separated from his wife, and he told her that the divorce was finalized in 2024, she said. The woman said she moved out of the New Smyrna Beach home earlier this year and moved to Columbia County following news reports about allegations against Mills from another woman described as his girlfriend in Washington. After she left, the congressman contacted her numerous times, threatening to release nude images of her and videos of her and Mills engaging in sex acts, she said in the sheriff's office report. The congressman also threatened to harm any men that the woman planned to date in the future, she said. Mills was first elected to Congress in 2022, and his district stretches from the Orlando area to the Daytona Beach area.
