Brit dad was in a RELATIONSHIP with daughter-in-law who he 'tried to drown in Florida resort pool' in will row
Mark Gibbon, 62, from Buckinghamshire, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly holding Jasmine Wyld's head under water during a row over his will.
His nine-year-old granddaughter was allegedly forced to fight him off to stop him drowning her mother in a pool on their American holiday at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, near DisneyWorld.
Gibbon and Jasmine, a 33-year-old hairdresser, began arguing over the 'stipulations of his will', according to US police.
He pushed Jasmine's head 'under the water and held her down multiple times', according to the arrest affidavit.
Now we can reveal that Gibbon and Ms Wyld have been in a relationship for the last two years after both of their relationships broke down.
Gibbon has split from his wife and lives alone at their £800,000 semi-detached home in Beaconsfield.
Meanwhile, Ms Wyld separated from Gibbon's son Alex, with whom she shares two young children, in 2021.
A family source told us that Alex and his father no longer speak - and last year Alex was jailed for trying to drive a car at his estranged father.
They revealed: 'Mark and Jasmine have been seeing each other for a few years, but they've never admitted it.
'Alex and his dad don't speak at all. There have been a number of issues within the family.
'He feels an awful betrayal at how his dad has struck up a relationship with the mother of his two children.
'Mark and Jasmine do an awful lot together and they go away on holiday with the children a couple of times every year.
'She is always round at his house. She has a place of her own but she's nearly always in Beaconsfield with Mark.
'They went to Florida two years ago and have been to Budapest where she posted pictures of them together like a couple.
'I don't know for sure what happened on this holiday and why Mark has apparently tried to drown her.
'But I have been told that Jasmine was unhappy that they have been in a relationship for a few years and she is not named in his will.'
Gibbon runs a successful lighting firm called MRG Lighting has working on television and film sets, as well as on music videos for Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Paloma Faith.
He owns a smart semi detached house in Beaconsfield, which he bought for in 2023.
Set up in 2023, MRG Lighting Limited had reserves of £122,600 in its first year of trading.
Ms Wyld's (pictured) nine-year-old daughter reportedly bravely jumped into the pool to try and save her mother when she witnessed her grandfather trying to plunge her under the water
But another of his businesses Ultralight UK Limited has seen its fortunes slide recently. Two years ago it had cash reserves of £577,618,. But by March last year it was £152,060 in the red.
Gibbon also runs a fledgling hair salon called Sage Hairdressing Limited, set up in July 2024.
The source added: 'Mark is worth about £800,000 and he is leaving everything to his grandchildren. He's a successful businessman, who runs his own company and owns his own home. His will has caused some tension in the family.'
Alex, 34, had worked with his father and was appointed a director with Ultralight UK Limited in 2019.
He was involved in the production of The Queen's Christmas Day speech a few years ago.
However, he left the company in 2023 and is said to have had a blazing row with his father in the street afterwards.
According to the family source, he attempted to drive away but his father jumped in front of him to stop him and was hit by the car.
Alex pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and harassment without violence.
He was sentenced in February 2024 to two years' prison and given a three year driving ban as wll as a five year restraining order.
His father regularly holidays with Ms Wyld and his two grandchildren.
The pair travelled together with the children - but no other relatives - to Florida together in 2023 and visited Budapest in Hungary in December the same year.
Ms Wyld - who has since returned back home from the U.S - has posted several photographs of her with her father-in-law on trips abroad.
He has also posted images of them all together including a treasured snap of the family visiting a pumpkin patch before Halloween last year.
Ms Wyld has been spending an increasing amount of time staying over at his house with the children, says the family source.
Neighbours in Buckinghamshire today told of their shock.
One said: 'When I read that he'd been arrested on suspicion of attempting to drown his daughter-in-law I just couldn't believe it.
'She spends a lot of time at his home with her children and Mark absolutely dotes on his grandkids. They go on holiday together regularly and are with each other a lot.
'He's a lovely guy - or so it seems to us - I didn't think he was capable of such a thing. He's never displayed any anger or violence while living here.'
According to Polk County Sheriff's Office in Florida, Mr Gibbon had shoved Ms Wyld's head under the water of the pool following a row last Sunday and pushed his granddaughter away when she jumped in to stop him.
He allegedly only stopped the attempted drowning when two neighbouring sisters saw what was happening and shouted over that they had called the Sheriff's Office.
He was taken into custody around 5.19pm on August 3 and is understood to have told police he had been drinking and admitted to pushing his daughter-in-law under the water but denied trying to drown her.
The police report revealed that Ms Wyld 'advised that she could not breathe and believed that she was going to drown. The victim advised that she had to fight Mark in order to get away from him and from under the water but he kept pushing her back under.'
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said: 'It's great that Polk County draws visitors from all across the world, but we expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us, just as we expect our lifelong residents to do the same.
'Because Mr Gibbon couldn't control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.'
Mr Gibbon has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and battery. He is next due in court on September 9.

Washington DC protests erupt after Trump seizes control of police and deploys troops
Protesters took to the streets after Donald Trump said he was deploying national guard troops to Washington DC and temporarily taking over the city's police department. The US president claimed it was necessary because 'our capital city has been overtaken by violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals'. In January, the metropolitan police department and US attorney's office released a report indicating total violent crime in DC in 2024 was down 35% from the previous year, marking the lowest rate in more than 30 years. 'This is not about crime, this is about control,' says Samantha Davis, an organizer at Free DC. 'This is not about public safety, this is about power'

Billionaire bowling scion splits with wife after age gap affair with kids' former nanny
A Virginia billionaire bowling heir cheated on his wife with their kids' ex-nanny and demanded a divorce in a ruthless Christmas Day outburst, court documents reveal. Peter Goodwin, 40, the son of the former co-owner of the massive AMF Bowling chain William Goodwin, was admittedly unfaithful to his clinical psychologist wife, Cara Goodwin, 40. As Cara cared for their children, Peter was off allegedly wining and dining the woman once hired by the couple, according to court papers obtained by the New York Post. Annette Lombard, 27, started working for the ultra-wealthy family in 2019 while she studied at the University of Virginia. She lived with them full-time during the pandemic and started working at Peter's office. She was eventually promoted to vice president of his company. Cara was unsettled by how close Peter and Annette had become by the end of 2020, but when she expressed her discomfort, her concerns were 'dismissed,' according to the filings. In August 2023, Cara gave birth to her fourth child with Peter, and about a month later, her estranged husband 'began expressing strong desire for more independence and time away from his family to focus on his own self-care.' This 'self-care' may have included luxury sports car and watches with hefty price tags, as displayed on Peter's Instagram account. 'Just trying to keep the revs high,' his bio reads. His page is flooded with pictures of Ferraris and Rolexes, flaunting his lavish lifestyle to his nearly 17,000 followers. Peter allegedly felt that Christmas Day of the same year would be an appropriate time to tell Cara as she held their baby that their marriage was through, documents say. Cara 'sat in front of him holding their four-month-old daughter' as he abruptly broke the news and took off. As he left, he was allegedly belligerently screaming and cursing as all his kids - aged two, five, seven and nine - watched in horror. Peter and Annette launched into their full-fledged romance, indulging in luxurious stays at the Four Seasons Hotel in Florida less than a week later, according to court documents. Over the next several months, the pair 'engaged in adulterous acts' from Wyoming to Florida, allegedly staying at the place Peter and Cara have together. Peter officially filed for divorce in January 2025. There is a prenup in place and Cara wants half of their marital assets - including their companies - child support and $500,000 to cover legal fees. They have shared custody of their kids, as agreed upon last year. The New York Post reported that Peter filed to try to seal the divorce papers last month. Cara's legal team is against this motion. Cara and Peter got married in 2014. According to public records, they founded the Peter and Cara Goodwin Foundation. Peter also has multiple other businesses connected to his name. Cara, who holds a PhD, is the founder of Parenting Translator, a brand that has more than 135,000 Instagram followers. The best-selling author focuses her practice on advising parents on the best ways to raise their children. Her social media is filled with informative tips about parenting, as well as inspirational messages for people with kids. Peter's father, William, is one of Virginia's most prominent figures. William, 84, worked at IBM and Phillip Morris Worldwide before founding his own company, Commonwealth Computer Advisors (CCA) Industries, in 1971. CCA Industries and the Riverstone Group, a diversified holding company, had business interests that included lavish resorts and hotels. Since his retirement, William has been recognized for his philanthropy, especially in the realm of cancer research. He founded his own national cancer research foundation, The Red Gates Foundation, with a $250 million donation in 2021 in honor of his son Hunter, who lost his life to the disease. William also serves on the University of Virginia board. He was appointed twice- once by former Virginia Governor George Allen and again by ex-Governor Bob McDonnell.
