Miri MP brings Sarawak Day spirit to the ground with Mobile Service Counter
Chiew distributes Sarawak flags to the public during the Mobile Service Counter programme at 2020 Café. MIRI (July 17): In conjunction with the upcoming Sarawak Day celebration, Miri MP Chiew Choon Man led a Mobile Service Counter programme at 2020 Café to distribute Sarawak flags and engage with the public. The programme, held in anticipation of Sarawak Day on July 22, aimed to commemorate the occasion and provide a platform for residents to voice concerns, share suggestions, and highlight local issues with their elected representative. 'This programme is not just about handing out flags. It's about being present with the people – listening to their problems firsthand and responding directly to their needs,' Chiew said in a statement. He added that the initiative allows him and his team to better understand the community and to deliver relevant advice and assistance on the spot. According to Chiew, the Mobile Service Counter reflects his commitment to grassroots leadership by bringing parliamentary services directly to the public, regardless of background or location. 'This face-to-face approach builds trust and speeds up the communication process. It also helps us gain a clearer picture of the real-life challenges faced by the people of Miri,' he added. Meanwhile, Chiew called on Mirians to proudly fly the Sarawak flag on July 22 in celebration of the state's rich heritage and identity. 'Let us instil the spirit of patriotism and unity, especially among the younger generation, so that the love for our homeland remains strong,' he said. He also disclosed that he and his team will continue to organise similar outreach programmes across various locations including residential areas, markets, coffeeshops, and villages to ensure that no voice in Miri goes unheard. 'As public servants, we must always stay close to the people and work together for a future that is inclusive, just, and prosperous for all,' he said.
