Fans claim they know which job WNBA star Sophie Cunningham will take up next after viral video resurfaces online
Once her career being a WNBA point guard and the bodyguard of teammate Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham might be looking for work behind a microphone. Cunningham, who had 16 points and ten rebounds in Indiana's 99-82 win over the Atlanta Dream on Friday night, has had video resurface of her interview with Phoenix Suns star Bradley Beal. Video has re-surfaced from earlier this year when Cunningham - who was on the Phoenix Mercury at the time - interviewed Beal at the end of a game. She had previously worked as a guest analyst for the Suns and appeared on the team's pre-game and post-game shows. Cunningham graduated from the University of Missouri with a major in sports management - but also minored in communications at one of the top journalism schools in the nation. She initially posted the interview with Beal, who was born and raised in St. Louis, and captioned it 'just two kids proudly reppin' MO @RealDealBeal23' - referring to Missouri's postal abbreviation. just two kids proudly reppin' MO @RealDealBeal23 ✨🥹🏀 — Sophie Cunningham (@sophaller) January 8, 2025 After that interaction gathered traction again, fans reacted positively and praised her skills. The video re-surfaced from a Caitlin Clark fan account, which captioned the clip, 'Sophie Cunningham the sportscaster -she can do whatever she wants when basketball is over. Very talented.' Another account said, 'Sophie Cunningham was great here in Phoenix. Always had great takes, never had an agenda. SC will be a great journalist, analyst, sportscaster etc if that's what she chooses post basketball.' 'She is smart, quick witted, very beautiful and speaks well. I could see her with a permanant job as a Sportscaster or who knows maybe even better things,' one fan said. Another post read, 'She really is multi-talented. And for critics who cite her modest ppg stats, they're missing the point. Her personality has enabled her to transcend the sport. She's the 'IT' girl of the WNBA. #AmericasGirlfriend.' This isn't the most recent news-making Cunningham has done after she attracted some negative attention in the wake of the announcement that the WNBA was expanding. In a video on X, she said: 'You want to listen to your players, too. Like where do they want to play? Where are they going to get excited to play and draw fans? Cunningham recently got backlash for her digs at two recently announced expansion cities Cunningham didn't seem happy that the league was expanding to Detroit and Cleveland 'I think Miami would have been a great one. Nashville is an amazing city. Kansas City, amazing opportunity. There's a huge arena downtown that nobody is using.' 'But man, I don't know how excited people are to be going to Detroit or [Cleveland].' That reaction drew backlash from not only fans in the two Midwest cities - but from the actual city governments of both Detroit and Cleveland.

Dan Patrick claims ESPN launched a 'smear campaign' after he parted ways with the network
Former longtime ESPN sportscaster Dan Patrick says he was the target of a "smear campaign" by the network after he made the difficult decision to move on and start his own venture after nearly two decades with the media giant. Patrick, host of "The Dan Patrick Show," made the allegation during a recent appearance on the Barstool podcast, "Pardon My Take." He said after his decision to leave "SportsCenter" in 2007, he believed there were attempts by the network to sandbag his new start. "Oh, frightening," Patrick recalled of his decision to walk away, "Because there was this smear campaign that started. Any radio affiliate that had my show, you'd be dropped as an ESPN affiliate if you decided you still wanted to carry me." Despite the attempt to undermine his success, Patrick said he "understood" the move. He even claimed to be "empowered" by it. "It was heavy-handed, but I understood. It empowered me. Like, 'Holy, s---. I'm gonna matter. They're gonna have to deal with me.'" Patrick, 69, worked for ESPN from 1989 until 2006 and stayed with ESPN Radio until 2007. Many were shocked at the time by his decision to leave, paving the way for his new show. He also claimed in the podcast that after informing the network of his decision, the door shut rather quickly. "It was quick.T hey wanted me out," Patrick said. Fox News Digital reached out to ESPN for comment. Hockey insider Bob McKenzie set to retire after 38-year career at TSN
TORONTO — Longtime sportscaster Bob McKenzie is retiring. The Toronto native made the announcement on Tuesday during TSN's annual 'Free Agent Frenzy' show. McKenzie joined TSN in 1987, covering the NHL, world junior championship, NHL draft, NHL trade deadline and free agency. He also covered six Olympic Games. Before joining TSN, McKenzie was the editor-in-chief of The Hockey News for nine years and a hockey columnist for the Toronto Star for six years. McKenzie became one of the top insiders in hockey circles over the years. The 68-year-old also won numerous awards, including the Gemini Award for Best Studio Analyst for his work on the '2008 IIHF World Junior Championship: Gold Final' as well as the 2016 Canadian Screen Award for Best Sports Analyst. 'I certainly never set out to be the TSN Hockey Insider. It never occurred to me that I would work in television. All I wanted to be when I grew up was a hockey writer: to have a 'job' to watch, write, and talk about the game. You know, tell a few stories and try to capture the spirit of the thing. Mission accomplished, I guess,' he said in a release. This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 1, 2025.
