Blood of My Blood Ellen Fraser star opens up about bagging role on Outlander spin-off
Harriet Slater stars as Ellen Mackenzie Fraser in the new show, which will detail the love story of Claire and Jamie Fraser's parents from the original beloved Outlander franchise. Outlander Blood of My Blood actress Harriet Slater has given fans an insight into what to expect from the first series of the Starz spin-off. She also divulged how she landed the role as Ellen Fraser, as well as her impromptu move to Glasgow. English-born actress Harriet gushed over her new role in the historical romance series, which comes off the back of Outlander. The original show was based on Diana Gabaldon's best-selling book franchise, and has amassed fans across the globe. Harriet confirmed she will be moving to Glasgow. Not only did she explain how thrilled she was at the "priviledge" of bagging the role of Ellen Fraser, Jamie Fraser' s mother, but she also gave a clue of what's to come as she leaves London behind. Sony Pictures shared a spotlight moment with the actress, asking some burning questions many fans will be eager to hear ahead of the series airing tomorrow, Friday August 8. They captioned the Instagram video: "Introducing Harriet Slater. In #BloodOfMyBlood, we know her as Ellen MacKenzie. Don't miss the premiere of #Outlander: Blood Of My Blood this Friday August on @starz!" Harriet explained: "When I found out I was booked for the series I was about to leave this flat in London and I had no idea where I was going to move to and this settles that problem immediately, I was like 'great I guess I'm moving to Glasgow'." "It feels such a priviledge actually to be going into something that has such a dedicated exisiting fanbase, so I really hope they all enjoy the new show," she added. Discussing how it felt to be on set, the actress detailed: "The very first day that we were on location it really made me feel like I was immersed in that world, and that was a really exciting feeling." "Greatest love story of all time? I'm going to say Romeo and Juliet, because I think there are many similarities between those guys and Ellen and Brian," she quipped, when asked about what love tale strikes a chord with her the most. Describing her character in three words, Harriet said: "I would say she is determined, smart and passionate." She also teased what lies ahead in the season, noting: "There's more love, more action, death and birth and all the messy, exciting and relatable parts of life." The series will follow two new love stories, one which starts on the battlefields of the Western Front during World War I and the other in the meadows of Scotland in the early 18th century. It will unravel the tale of both Jamie and Claire Fraser's parents. Since its debut more than a decade ago, Outlander itself has amassed a global fanbase. The historical romance series, centring round Claire Randall/Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), saw their love affair quickly capture hearts. However with the show nearing its end with the eighth and final season set for 2026, the phenomenon is expanding in the form of a spin-off to Diana Gabaldon's treasured franchise.
