At least 50 Sudanese displaced people rescued in Al-Kufra desert
The Emergency and Ambulance Service in Al-Kufra has announced the rescue of about 50 Sudanese displaced individuals, including women and children, who were stranded in the desert south of the city. According to a statement posted on Facebook, members of the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency in Al-Kufra found the group on Thursday morning in the Siouf Boufatma area, located about 450 kilometers from Al-Kufra. On Wednesday, the spokesperson for Al-Kufra's Municipal Council, Abdullah Suleiman, called for the reopening of the Sudanese consulate in the city, citing growing humanitarian and administrative challenges due to the increasing influx of Sudanese people fleeing conflict in their home country. Suleiman said that Al-Kufra is one of the Libyan cities receiving the highest number of Sudanese refugees—around 60,000—some of whom suffer fatal accidents or illnesses, highlighting the urgent need for a diplomatic presence to provide legal representation and safeguard their interests. Kufra Municipality: Number of Sudanese refugees equals local population, and support provided is negligible
The Mayor of Kufra, Abdul Rahman Aqoub, said that the city continues to receive Sudanese refugees on a daily basis due to the ongoing war in Sudan, noting the lack of accurate statistics or fixed numbers due to the constant influx. In a press statement, Aqoub explained that the support received from some organizations is "negligible," while the city's residing refugees exceeding 61,000, which is equivalent to the original population of Kufra. Sudanese army accuses Haftar's forces of attacking its units at the border
The Sudanese army said that its border units located in the border triangle between Sudan, Egypt, and Libya were subjected to what it described as a 'surprise attack' by what it called the 'Dagalo terrorist militia,' supported by elements of the "Subul Al-Salam battalion (the Salafi Battalion) affiliated with Khalifa Haftar's forces in Libya." The statement considered Haftar's direct intervention in the fighting alongside Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as a 'blatant violation against Sudan, its land, and its people,' indicating that the incident is part of what it described as an 'international and regional conspiracy' targeting the country. The army added in its statement that it is confronting this escalation with the support of the Sudanese people, and that it 'will prevail no matter the extent of conspiracy and aggression,' accusing the United Arab Emirates of supporting such attacks through what it described as 'its militias in the region.' These statements come at a time when the Darfur region and border areas are witnessing escalating military tensions, amid repeated accusations by the Sudanese army of Haftar's forces being involved in supporting the Rapid Support Forces led by Hemedti.
