📣 Frank on transfers, Son and more ahead of Spurs v Arsenal clash

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank faced the media at Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong ahead of Thursday's highly anticipated north London derby against Arsenal. In a wide-ranging press conference, the Dane addressed summer transfers, squad depth, injuries, and the future of captain Son Heung-min. Defender Micky van de Ven also spoke, praising young teammate Luka Vušković and reflecting on his first full pre-season at Spurs. 'I think everyone knows that Son has been one of the best players at Tottenham in the past 10 years. I think he's been hugely successful from the left wing. I also think he's had some fantastic games down the middle as a number nine. So it's important to have players who can play in more than one position and it's about having your best players on the pitch and available. "So the thing about Sonny is that he will always score goals and it's just about getting him in those situations.' On squad depth and the search for reinforcements Frank acknowledged Tottenham's attacking depth while hinting that more transfer activity could follow after a failed move for Morgan Gibbs-White. 'I think first and foremost we have some depth in the squad. Richarlison I see him more as a striker who can play to the side. We need different skillsets.' Pressed on areas he would like to strengthen, Frank remained tight-lipped: 'That is something I would like to keep private of course. We're aware where we maybe want to strengthen the squad in general. Kudus has come in and shown his quality already. Of course we are looking.' On injuries With Destiny Udogie currently sidelined, Frank gave a cautious update on the full-back's condition: 'Destiny got a knee injury that we're assessing at the moment. When we know more we will update more.' On the club's pre-season tour Speaking about the significance of the Asia tour, Frank highlighted its importance both commercially and culturally: 'The tours are good in many ways. It's great for the club to come out here and for all of us to experience the backing we have from our fans.' On Mikey Moore's loan prospects Young winger Mikey Moore could be set for a loan spell, with Frank stressing the need for regular game time. 'It is very important. Mikey is a big talent. I'm really excited about his future here at Tottenham. I think for all players but especially younger players they need consistent first-team football into their bodies. I think if we can find the right option we will do that.' I don't approach it differently. It's more time to work on my body and prepare it for the Premier League, Champions League and all the games coming up.' Van de Ven also reserved high praise for 18-year-old centre-back Luka Vušković: 'Luka is only 18 years old but what you can see from how he behaves on the pitch and off the pitch, you can see he is a really talented football player. He has a lot of qualities and I think he has shown in the last two friendlies that he has a lot of big and strong points where even our centre-backs can learn from. He's done unbelievable at this point and hopefully he can do way more for us and hopefully you can see way more from him.' Tottenham continue their pre-season preparations with a challenging fixture against fierce rivals Arsenal this Thursday. All eyes will be on Son, new arrivals, and emerging talents like Vušković as Frank looks to shape a competitive squad ahead of the new season. 📸 Alex Pantling - 2025 Getty Images

Benjamin André opens door to Lille exit

It was always going to be a summer of change at Lille OSC. However, there could be even more departures than initially thought. Benjamin André (34), the club captain, has now opened the door to a potential summer exit. Many players have run down their contracts at Lille. Jonathan David will be the most high-profile departure, but the likes of Angel Gomes, Rémy Cabella, and Samuel Umtiti will also leave on free transfers. Edon Zhegrova, who wanted to leave LOSC last summer before being convinced to stay, will also be allowed to leave the club this time around. There is also the question of the managerial situation. As reported by L'Équipe on Saturday night, Bruno Genesio could leave the club amid frustration with the internal workings of the club and the management of contract situations. André's contract situation is also a topic. His current deal expires at the end of next season, however, he could yet depart this summer, too. 'Of course, we'll sit down and talk, because there is the age, the risk of being at the end of a cycle at a moment in time. Lots of players that have been here to a while are leaving, it feels like a page is turning. We'll sit down and see what don't parties want to do,' began André, the subject of interest from Qatar last summer. During his mixed zone interview, he added, 'I want to play, to have fun. I train as if I were 20 years old and I will always do that, no matter what happens.' GFFN | Luke Entwistle
