Rangers legend Ally McCoist left unimpressed live on-air by Celtic title query as he blasts ‘he's trying to wind me up'

But barely a couple of hours into his big return, the Rangers icon was left less than impressed! 4 Ally McCoist was back on talkSPORT Breakfast after five weeks away Credit: YOUTUBE/TALKSPORT 4 The Rangers legend was left unimpressed with one of his links Credit: YOUTUBE/TALKSPORT 4 Russell Martin's Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw by Dundee Credit: Willie Vass 4 Celtic beat Aberdeen 2-0 to make it two wins from two Credit: Kenny Ramsay After a busy year of broadcasting and gruelling charity cycle, McCoist has enjoyed an extended summer holiday. But that came to an end at the weekend as he returned to the commentary booth on TNT Sports for Sunday's live coverage of the Community Shield clash between Crystal Palace and Liverpool at Wembley. And this morning, he was back on the talkSPORT Breakfast show, sitting in the main host's chair in the absence of regular sparring partner Jeff Stelling. He was joined by Arsenal hero Ray Parlour. As the main presenter, that meant that the responsibility fell on McCoist to read the links into commercial breaks and to kick-start each segment. And it's fair to say one of those links into a break left McCoist less than impressed! Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw by Dundee on Saturday, meaning they've failed to win any of their first two league matches under Russell Martin. Celtic, meanwhile, made it six points from six after beating Aberdeen 2-0 on Sunday. And those results were the central focus of McCoist's link into a break - and the way it was scripted left the Rangers legend feeling like he was being stitched-up! Reading off of his script, McCoist began reading: "Celtic continued their perfect start to the Scottish Premiership season...." Ally McCoist is in cycling crash as he rides 555 miles across Ireland to raise money for the My Name's Doddie Foundation He then paused, taking issue with the script, exclaiming: "They've won two games, man! What's going on? Perfect start? Pointing towards someone in the production area, McCoist said: "He's trying to wind me up in there! Continuing with the script, he continued: "Eh, winning 2-0 at Aberdeen, who themselves now sit rock bottom. "Russell Martin, meanwhile, made unwanted history at Rangers as they failed to win in their opening two league games for the first time sincce 1989 - which I was probably responsible for - drawing 1-1 at home with Dundee." The script ended with the question: "Is the title race already over?" Aghast, McCoist blasted: "Give it a break lads, come on!" In a link about 20 minutes later, McCoist revealed Neil Lennon was coming on the show and this script said "we'll be asking Lennon if the Scottish title race is already over!" Looking over to the production area once more, McCoist insisted: "I'm not biting!" Have YOU got a point for Kris Boyd? SOMETHING you've just got to get off your chest from the weekend action? The reason Andy Robertson won't make Celtic transfer any time soon
The Liverpool star has been linked with the Anfield exit door and is a well known Hoops boyhood fan Andy Robertson and his future have been one of the big talking points of the summer window to date. Liverpool are in a summer of transition with Arne Slot splashing the cash and that has included a new left back with Milos Kerkez arriving in a big money deal from English Premier League rivals Bournemouth. That has cast some doubt over the long-term future of the Scotland skipper and his game time at the Reds next season and has posed the question whether it is time to move on. Atletico Madrid have been linked in recent times with a swoop for the right-back, and Rangers hero and talkSPORT host Ally McCoist has asked whether following Scotland colleagues like Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay abroad is something that would appeal. Celtic is a name that isn't far when Robbo is mentioned as a boyhood fan, but McCoist reckons Kieran Tierney's arrival in Glasgow's east end would eliminate any chance of Brendan Rodgers swopping - while he believes a move home is "too early". But one thing he is certain about is, if he decides it is time to move on, the offers at his door won't be in short supply. Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast show, McCoist said: "By far an away he still has some great years ahead of him to play. "The one thing he is, is extremely fit. in terms of his ability to get up and down that left-hand side. Truthfully, too early for him to go back to Scotland, I think. I do. "[Kieran] Tierney, going back to Celtic, you would think would eliminate that club straight away. "Could he follow in the footsteps of the likes of [Billy] Gilmour, [Scott] McTominay, [Che] Adams and [Lewis] Ferguson? "100 per cent there would be no shortage of offers for Andy Robertson at home or indeed abroad. "I don't know if he fancies two or three years abroad. If he did, nobody on the planet could grudge him it. "He's been a fantastic servant to Liverpool, Scotland and wherever he has been."

Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Celtic described as a ‘no-brainer' as key concern over ex-Everton star raised
The Hoops are tracking a £1.5million-rated striker from Japan DOM DEAL Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Celtic described as a 'no-brainer' as key concern over ex-Everton star raised CELTIC are likely to bolster up front in the transfer window this summer. So could Dominic Calvert-Lewin be an option for the Hoops? Advertisement 4 Dominic Calvert-Lewin is available on a free after leaving Everton Credit: PA 4 Brendan Rodgers is looking to add a striker this summer Credit: PA 4 The possibility of Calvert-Lewin to Celtic was discussed on talkSPORT Credit: TALKSPORT Former England international Calvert-Lewin, 28, is a free agent after announcing over the weekend that he was leaving Everton. The frontman had spent the last nine years with the Toffees, scoring 71 goals in 274 appearances across all competitions. Exactly where he'll end up now remains to be seen, but the possibility of a move to CELTIC has been floated. Rangers legend Ally McCoist returned to co-hosting duties on talkSPORT Breakfast this morning alongside Jeff Stelling. Advertisement Former Olympian Sam Quek was also part of the team this morning, and led the two broadcasting legends in a game where they had to say if they were in favour - or otherwise - for transfer suggestions she floated. They ran the rule over Marc Guehi to Liverpool and Joao Pedro to Chelsea, before Quek floated the possibility of Calvert-Lewin going to Parkhead. Both McCoist and Stelling reckon it'd be a good move for both parties - but McCoist revealed a key concern with Calvert-Lewin. He said: "Fitness. It's fitness, it's only fitness. It's fitness for me. Advertisement "You get him on the pitch, he would absolutely do well at Celtic, there's no doubt about it. "Pacy, good in the air, he'd score you goals. Just the question mark over fitness, that's all I've got." Celtic legend Peter Grant reveals which Rangers players were good pals and how they managed to socialise in Glasgow goldfish bowl Stelling added: "It's an absolute no-brainer. A no-brainer. "Getting him on a free transfer, we know he can play. Advertisement "If they oculd keep him fit, I think it'd be a good move for him. "He'd score goals there, regain his conference and wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of years time he'd be back in the Premier League." McCoist added: "I just want to see him fit, I want to see him play. Not too well if he goes to Celtic, on the other hand!" Having lost Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes in January, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is likely to add a striker this summer. Advertisement Kyogo's exit left Adam Idah as the only recognised out-and-out striker in the squad with Johnny Kenny backing him up. Daizen Maeda was the man who stepped-up after Kyogo's exit, moving in from the wing to make the centre-forward position his own in a prolific second half to the campaign. SunSport exclusively revealed earlier this month how the Hoops were tracking Japanese striker Shin Yamada. The £1.5million-rated frontman currently playes for side Kawasaki Frontale, the same club the Celts signed Reo Hatate from three-and-a-half years ago. Advertisement Meanwhile, Celtic striker Kenny, 22, is wanted by Bolton Wanderers. We exclusively revealed over the weekend that the English League One side are after him with the Hoops to command a £1m fee for the former Republic of Ireland under-21 star. 4 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Ally McCoist slams Club World Cup as Rangers legend admits ‘I haven't watched it, I didn't have any interest'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE Club World Cup is reaching its final stages over in the United States. And it's fair to say Fifa's glitzy new-look tournament has more than divided opinion. Although the tournament has been around for some time, this is the first time it's taken place in it's current format with 32 teams taking part across a month-long competition. Bayern Munich, Chelsea, PSG, Palmeiras and Real Madrid are among the teams still standing with the round of 16 almost complete. While there's been plenty of great football on show, the competition has been heavily criticised. Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has branded it 'the worst idea ever' in relation to the strain being put on players. The Premier League winner highlighted concerns over the fact players participating would get 'no real recovery' with the Club World Cup taking place between the end of last season and the start of the next one. Those sentiments have been echoed across the board. The weather has also proved a problem, with several games heavily delayed. On Saturday night, Chelsea beat Benfica 4-1 after extra time in in Charlotte, North Carolina. But the last 16 clash took more than FOUR HOURS to complete after a two-hour weather delay. Ally McCoist confesses to 'horrendous' epic fail ahead of final day of Rangers legend's charity bike ride Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was fuming about the lengthy delay and has blasted: "I think it's a joke, to be honest. "It's not football, it's completely something new. I struggle to understand. "I can understand if it's security reasons but if you suspend seven or eight games then it's probably not the right place to do the competition. "It's not normal to suspend the game. In a World Cup, how many games are suspended? Zero probably. In Europe how many games get suspended? Zero." Someone else who isn't a fan of the competition is Ally McCoist. The Rangers legend was back on talkSPORT Breakfast duties today after a bit of time away - time away that included a gruelling charity cycle across Ireland. Those other endeavours meant McCoist didn't have much time to sit in front of the telly to watch the football - but he's admitted he didn't really have any interest in doing so anyway. Responding to Klopp's brutal comments, McCoist said: "I'm not sure I'd go that far but he's certainly against it. "I'll be brutally honest, I haven't watched it. "I know I've been busy, away cycling and all that stuff. "I'll be honest with you, my boys are watching it, particularity the younger one and I'll watch it now. "I watched the highlights of the Chelsea game, I watched Harry Kane's goals last night. "I'm probably a little bit embarrassed to say, now it's got to the quarter finals, last 16, I will take an interest but I didn't have any interest, seemingly about a million empty seats of people agreed with me." Asked if his new-found interest in the Club World Cup would see him getting up at 2am to watch Man City's clash with Al Hilal tonight, McCoist said: "No. I'll take an interest in the result in that one. "There's been a lot of things. The weather, the times of the kick-offs, I don't care what anybody says, it does affect your interest." 22-year-old Midfielder Urged To Move To West Ham United: Should The Hammers Pursue Him?
For West Ham United, the summer might have kicked off with more questions than answers. The club have had its ups and downs in recent years, and although they managed to stay afloat in the Premier League, the ambition to move up another notch remains alive. With the departure of Julen Lopetegui and the arrival of Graham Potter, the London team might be looking to revamp their midfield with young, hungry players. All eyes are now on Anfield, where Harvey Elliott seems to be caught between promises and decisions that have yet to solidify his position. Rumours are growing, and West Ham are beginning to emerge as a possible destination for the talented midfielder. Harvey Elliott Urged To Move To West Ham United BRIGHTON, ENGLAND – MAY 19: Harvey Elliott of Liverpool celebrates scoring his team's first goal during the Premier League match between Brighton & Hove Albion FC and Liverpool FC at Amex Stadium on May 19, 2025 in Brighton, England. (Photo by) During a chat on talkSPORT Breakfast, Stuart Pearce spoke bluntly about Elliott. In a transfer dynamic, the former coach and player was clear in saying that he would immediately approve his departure from Liverpool. He recalled that even Jürgen Klopp, before leaving, confessed that he had not given him enough opportunities. Advertisement Pearce believes that the Englishman needs to play and that moving to another club would be beneficial for everyone. West Ham, in his view, could offer him that lost space and allow him to develop with consistent playing time. There was no doubt in his response, just a direct statement: the boy needs minutes. 'Right every day for me, on both counts. The player needs to play. When [Jurgen] Klopp left, he said: 'I should have played Harvey Elliott a bit more'. That was one of the statements he made. He identified the talent of him and identified that he didn't play him enough. He hasn't played enough this year once again. I think that would be a good move for both parties. Right.' T4O Opinion: If West Ham really wants to strengthen themselves with a different type of footballer, Harvey Elliott would fit perfectly into that search. At 22, he has shown quality, control of the tempo and the courage to face defenders and step up his game. He is no stranger to the league, nor is he an experiment. The Englishman is a player with experience in demanding scenarios who has been moulded at one of the most competitive clubs in the country. If Liverpool do not value him with minutes, another club should. West Ham has a place for someone like him, especially if they are looking to vary their style and offer something more than muscle in midfield. Potter could give him a starring role. The key will be to promise him time on the pitch, not words. The move would be brave, but also smart. If Elliott finds a space where he can play freely, he will perform. If West Ham dare, they could get a signing with immediate impact and potential. It's not every day you have the option to sign a player like this without paying double for him in two years' time.
