Alabama Christian school teacher, 35, accused of sexual relationship with student

A teacher at an Alabama Christian school was arrested Friday after she was accused of having a sexual relationship with a student, an incident the school described as "heart rending for all involved." North River Christian Academy, a private Pre-K-12 school in Tuscaloosa, on Friday posted a statement online about the arrest and allegations against "a former employee." The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office confirmed to Fox News Digital on Wednesday that deputies arrested Sarah Huggins Logan, 35, on Friday and charged her with one count of a school employee engaging in a sex act. The parents of the student alerted authorities on Wednesday that their juvenile daughter was involved in a sexual relationship with a teacher, Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) Capt. Jack Kennedy told Fox News Digital in a statement. The VCU's Sexual Assault Section launched an investigation and obtained warrants for Logan after conducting interviews and recovering evidence, the statement said. No details about the victim or what evidence investigators uncovered were immediately provided. Kennedy confirmed that Logan was no longer an employee of the school. The school said it was made aware of the allegations earlier in the week and alerted state and local authorities. The school added it has been cooperating with the agencies' investigation. "Our first concern is for the health and welfare of our students, staff, and families," the school said. "Please respect the privacy of all these parties. Contributing to rumors and suspicions profits no one and contributes only to the hardships experienced by those impacted." "It should be self-evident to say that this incident is heart rending for all involved," the school continued. "This includes especially the families directly impacted. We have prayed for them and encouraged our entire school family to hold them up in their personal prayers. This situation is easy for no one; there are only degrees of difficulty." Kennedy said that there may be more victims and encouraged them to speak with investigators. The sheriff's investigation is ongoing, and more charges could be forthcoming.

Alternative school teacher arrested on sex solicitation involving minors, battery charges

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An alternative school teacher has been arrested on charges related to battery and soliciting lewd and lascivious acts from minors. Audley Hewitt, 61, who was named 2022 IR Prep Teacher of the Year, was arrested just before noon July 17, law enforcement and school district records show. His full charges include soliciting a sexual battery act by a custodian with a victim under 18; battery touch or strike; unlawful use of a two-way communication device, according to Indian River County Sheriff's Office records. Arrest records show he was arrested at his residence west of Vero Beach in the 6400 block of 26th Street at 11:51 a.m. A student reported Hewitt's alleged actions saying he was "engaged in inappropriate relationships" and "soliciting a student," according to an Indian River County Sheriff's Office news release. A School District of Indian River County spokesperson provided a statement acknowledging the arrest and 'allegations involving a teacher at IR Prep,' and that both referred to Hewitt. The allegations in the student's report occurred from Jan. 22 through March, Capt. Joe Abollo said. He said the district notified law enforcement of the student's report at a later date. It's unclear at what point between March and the date of Hewitt's arrest the school notified the agency of the matter. 'As soon as the matter was brought to the District's attention, appropriate steps were immediately taken,' district spokesperson Kyra Schafte said in an emailed statement. 'The District conducted an internal investigation and, consistent with its obligations, promptly reported the matter to the Department of Children and Families and to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office.' Superintendent David Moore approved a measure to speed up Hewitt's termination of employment. IR Prep at 1426 18th Street is a secondary school for students in grades six through12. Hewitt was not found among an online list of faculty, however, an Oct. 11, 2022 Facebook picture and caption depicts the school's principal, Dariyall Brown, posing with Hewitt who was awarded as that year's 'Teacher of the Year.' Airdrie man charged with 16 sexual offences from his time teaching in Crossfield

RCMP have charged an Airdrie man who was a former teacher at W.G. Murdoch High School in Crossfield, Alta., with a number of sexual offences. (File/Google Maps) An Airdrie man faces 16 charges, including eight counts each of sexual assault and sexual exploitation, following an extensive investigation by Airdrie Rural RCMP. The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred while he was a teacher at W.G. Murdoch School in Crossfield. Rodney Reisner, 47, of Airdrie is currently in custody awaiting a hearing to determine his potential release. Reisner has been unassigned from teaching duties since late 2023. Rocky View Schools superintendent Greg Luterbach released a statement on behalf of the school board. 'This individual has been employed with RVS as a teacher since 2009,' he said. 'Reisner taught at W.G. Murdoch High School in Crossfield from 2014 until late 2023.' Their previous teaching history within RVS includes: George McDougall High School (2012–2014); The Edge School (2011–2012); W.G. Murdoch High School (2010–2011); and Bert Church High School (2009–2010). Luterbach says the school board takes the charges very seriously. 'The safety and well-being of our students remain at the heart of everything we do. School-based and divisional supports will be available at W.G. Murdoch High School when it reopens in September,' he said. 'We will revisit these plans based on the needs of the school community. The RCMP have our full cooperation throughout their investigation.' Airdrie RCMP say the investigation remains open and that there may be more victims. Anyone with information or who has experienced similar incidents are asked to contact the Airdrie RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Albuquerque police: Child exploitation sting was a success

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After a string of Albuquerque teachers were arrested for crimes against children, concerns are heightened about who is in the classroom. Albuquerque police are reassuring the public, these cases are a priority. 'You know when a teacher who is a trusted adult for kids makes one of these violations, it rings really loud,' said Commander Kyle Hartsock, Albuquerque Police Department. Wildfire: Couple loses home to Trout Fire burning in the Gila National Forest Since early June, three Albuquerque teachers have been arrested for inappropriate conduct with minors. 34-year-old Patrick Corr, 66-year-old Kelly McEachran, and on Tuesday, APD brought in 27-year-old Julian Gunther. 'As the investigation is unfolding, of course, we're finding there could be other things that he was up to that are in line with someone who is seeking out children for sexual gratification,' said Hartsock. Gunther's arrest, in partnership with the Santa Fe Police Department, was part of a larger day-long sting focused on child exploitation in Albuquerque. Gunther was the only teacher caught up in this particular operation, but it netted a handful of other suspects, including 25-year-old Karim Vargas. 'We also arrested yesterday a person in the chat operation who was talking with an APD detective in an undercover capacity, and he showed up to a park here in town and was met by several uniformed police officers,' said Hartsock. Vargas believed he was talking to a 15-year-old girl, agreeing to meet at a park to have sex with her. After the arrest, officers found an unopened box of condoms in his car. Hartsock said these cases are rarely one-offs. 'We always presume that there are more victims, which is where we do full investigations into online activity, phone activity. We talk to neighbors, in Mr. Gunther's case, we're going to talk to the school and possible students,' said Hartsock. He hopes victims come forward. 'If the news is doing a story on it, if the police department feels confident in it, that means if I share my story, I am likely to be believed. So we love all the media attention you guys can give on offenders because we do get victims that come forward,' said Hartsock. Hartsock said anytime APD gets a tip about inappropriate behavior with a minor, especially a teacher, the case becomes top priority. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Teacher accused of having sex with student, 16, then bragging about it to a colleague

A prep school teacher in Michigan has been charged for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student and then bragging about it to a colleague. Jocelynn Sanroman, 26, of Pontiac, was arrested on Monday over accusations she had a sexual relationship with the teen boy, who was a student at Oakside Prep Academy charter school about 30 miles outside of Detroit, in August 2023. She was charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a student in the third degree. Sanroman was busted after telling a co-worker, who turned around and reported her to authorities, the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office said. Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in a statement: 'This defendant is accused of using her position of authority to exploit a minor victim. 'These allegations represent the ultimate breach of trust placed in educators by parents and the community. 'As a former teacher myself, I applaud the teacher who contacted police about this situation, protecting other students from further exploitation.' Sanroman was arraigned on Monday and is expected to appear before a judge for a probable cause hearing on July 10. The teacher was booked into jail the same day and released on a $20,000 bond, records show. She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. 'At this time, we would like to emphasize that our client is presumed innocent,' one of her lawyers, Colin McLaughlin, told 'We very much look forward to having our day in court.'
