Toronto man charged after allegedly sending repeated xenophobic and racist messages to 2 victims

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Christopher Katsarov A Toronto man has been charged with criminal harassment and uttering threats after allegedly sending repeated xenophobic and racist messages to two separate victims. Police say on June 14 they were made aware of an individual who was allegedly sending online communications to two people. They say in June and July, the suspect sent multiple online communications 'of a threatening nature' to the first victim. In several of those messages, he allegedly made threats to harm the victim, police said. During that same time frame, the same suspect allegedly sent repeated online communications 'of a harassing nature' to a second victim. As a result of the investigation, the accused was identified. On Aug. 6, investigators executed a search warrant where they located and arrested 41-year-old Christopher Maatman, of Toronto. He is facing three counts of uttering threats and nine counts of criminal harassment. Maatman was scheduled to appear in bail court on Wednesday morning. Northern Ont. police say drugged driver threatened victims with a crossbow
A 31-year-old from Mattawa, Ont., has been charged with uttering threats and impaired driving following an incident late last month. (File) A 31-year-old from Mattawa, Ont., has been charged with uttering threats and impaired driving following an incident late last month. 'A weapon was reportedly brandished and the accused was later determined to have been driving while under the influence of an intoxicating substance,' North Bay Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday. The incident took place around 9:30 on July 26 on Brydges Street in Mattawa. Pointed crossbow at victims 'One individual had reportedly brandished a crossbow, uttered threats and pointed the weapon in the direction of the victims,' police said. 'Officers located and arrested the accused, who was determined to have been driving and had consumed an intoxicating substance.' Charges include driving while impaired by drugs, failing to comply with a demand, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and weapons possession. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on Sept. 2. The vehicle was impounded for a week and the suspect's driver's licence was suspended for 90 days.
