I Went to 6 Destination Weddings Last Year—Here Are My Qualifications for a Perfect Wedding Guest Dress

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Last year, I went to six weddings, and only one of them was in New York where I live. For months, I was gone every other weekend, and I don't think I've ever traveled more in a short span of time in my entire life. I went to Mykonos, the highlands of Iceland, Buenos Aires, Boston, and San Diego. I got really good at packing but even better at the special kind of mental gymnastics needed to justify buying a small collection of special, fancy dresses essentially for one night. At first, six nearly back-to-back weddings and the five trips planned around them sounded beyond stressful. That was until the shopping lover in me realized this just might be my dream come true. I finally had an excuse to buy a handful of designer dresses I had been dreaming of. Is that the best way to think? Definitely not. But I'm a fashion editor who spends so much time admiring and writing about runway and red carpet pieces I have no reason to own—but wish I did—for my day-to-day life. The thought of being able to curate my own selection of exceptional special-occasion dresses that would forever be tethered to incredible memories made me giddy. I can confidently say there are fewer things in my wardrobe that I'm more proud of than my wedding guest dress edit. The first dress I wore was sourced from The RealReal. It was for the only wedding that I attended in New York in late August. I knew it would be hot, and the dress code was less formal, so I opted for a vintage pink Miu Miu dress from the 2000s with a long floral strap made of soft fabric. It only felt right to go all pink with vintage suede Prada pumps. A little pink dress is now superior to an LBD in my opinion, especially for a summer wedding. It's cheeky, cutesy, and easy to accessorize. View Deal View Deal View Deal The next wedding was a formal black-tie affair in Mykonos, Greece. I had actually purchased a vintage Roberto Cavalli gown in Marbella, Spain, two summers before in case an occasion exactly like this came up. It is one of the most beautiful things I've laid my eyes on with a print so ridiculous it just works. Throughout the gown, there are seashells, leopard prints, and pink blossoms. I have eccentric style, and I think a patterned gown like this works great if you want to have a little more fun with a formal look. It also felt perfectly in line with the location. I wanted something that felt like the vacation I was also having. View Deal View Deal View Deal Not all summer destination weddings are in warm locations. My second destination wedding was the weekend after Mykonos and took place in the highlands of Iceland. There was a possibility of snow with lows in the 20s but also the potential of highs in the 50s. I had no idea what to wear, but in times of doubt, there's always Rodarte… right? Right! I opted for a black Rodarte gown I found on sale since that felt best for the colder landscape. It was covered in a velvet floral pattern with an asymmetrical ruffle. I already thought it was perfect and then saw that Charli XCX had worn the same exact dress. The thing that makes Rodarte so special is that it's so ethereal, so you could wear one of its gowns in an unconventional way—which I did with stockings and a fur jacket because I had no choice on the day of—and it still works. There's a quirky whimsy to the brand that makes it perfect to wear to an untraditional affair. View Deal View Deal View Deal By the time I had to head over to San Diego in early October, I knew I wanted to try out a shorter pink dress again. I found the perfect option: another secondhand Miu Miu dress from The RealReal, except this one was from 2013. I had loved this dress on the runway and was so excited to finally own it. Like the first Miu Miu dress I wore at the beginning of my wedding stretch, it had a fun detail that cascaded down the dress. It can best be described as a rosette prize ribbon. While rosettes and prize ribbons feel very much like the new bows and ribbons, I don't think we've reached a saturation point yet. They're an unexpected detail on a wedding guest dress, which is perfect if you're looking for something that'll set you apart. View Deal View Deal View Deal I've written about Siedrés before because I think the Turkish brand is a fashion editor's best-kept secret. Since discovering it a little over a year ago at a fateful press appointment, I've been obsessed. I wore a Siedrés dress to cap off my wedding marathon in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was a patterned blue dress with red floral accents and ruffles throughout complete with a matching thin scarf I tossed around my shoulder. It's fun to support a newer brand, and it felt cool to have people ask me where it's from and leave them with knowledge of something they didn't know about before. View Deal View Deal View Deal For a wedding just outside of Boston in October, it was still nice enough to wear a shorter dress with no jacket, but I wanted to step away from pastels since it was still technically fall. I opted for another Rodarte dress I found on sale (the Rodarte gods blessed me not once but twice!) in a bright purple. I feel like most of my friends tend to gravitate toward pastels, but I think going brighter in the color department is even more fun, and everyone should do it more often. ‘Far too casual for a wedding' people say as guest proudly shows off her ‘picnic' dress with flip-flops

A FASHIONISTA has come under fire after showing off her wedding guest outfit trolls insist is ''too casual''. Wedding season has well and truly arrived, which means many people have been taking to social media to share their stylish frocks and gowns. 2 Amongst them is also TikToker Rosie Ridgers who recently attended '' a casual wedding '' and was dressed fit for the occasion. The brunette beauty, who now lives in Barcelona, Spain, was deciding between four different picks - an adorable Gingham maxi dress, a flattering dress in pastel yellow, a gorgeous satin pink skirt teamed with a light yellow waistcoat, as well as as maxi lace number in pink and yellow. However, despite being told by social media critics that the red and white Gingham dress was ''too casual'', it was this option Rosie went with. In the follow-up clip before the romantic ceremony, the style lover modelled the cute sleeveless dress that she had paired with a white pearl necklace, a chic updo, as well as some golden jewellery. Yet it was the choice of footwear that seemed to cause the most uproar in the comments - as Rosie decided to do rock comfy black flip-flops. All chuffed with the final look, she wrote: ''The wedding guest dress that you all called 'too casual'. ''Do you still agree?'' 'Flip flops for wedding is wild' But while Rosie looked stunning - and was comfortable - keyboard warriors weren't sure if the final outfit was fit for a wedding. The clip, posted under the username @ rosieridgers, has since racked up more than 173k views in less than 24 hours, with over 90 people flooding to comments. One person thought: ''it's super cute but 1000% too casual. this is like a brunch or picnic or just summer weekend look.'' Frankie Bridge slammed by fans again for SHEER wedding guest dress that's 'too much' and will 'upstage the bridge' Meanwhile, someone else said that Rosie's decision to sport flip-flops at a wedding was ''wild''. Another agreed, writing: ''Maybe just add a strappy heel (even a low one)... The flip flops are defo too casual (certainly for a day 1).'' A fourth chimed in sharing how they'd make the cute ensemble more ''wedding-appropriate'' in their eyes. ''Sweet kitten heel would have made this wedding appropriate. Flip flops would not be my choice.'' ''cute but casual, makes me think of those gingham dresses used to wear to primary school,'' commented a viewer. Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble. Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom. Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided. Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream - even if it's not. Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered. Wearing white is a massive no-no if you're not the bride. 'It was such a casual wedding' After being slammed in the comments, Rosie hit back at the critics, ordering them to ''relax''. ''Guys, this is a bit of a wind up, it was such a casual wedding! And I knew that going into it, they wanted everyone to be extra comfortable & happy during the evening! ''It was such a special way to organise it and I knew some of you would debate it in the comments BUT some of you are taking it too far.

These comfortable, packable travel dresses are breezy, versatile, and stylish enough to take you from airport arrivals to sunset dinners without an outfit change—and Amazon has dozens of best-selling picks starting at just $29. From crisp, white maxi dresses to coastal stripes, these 12 Amazon maxi dresses are as flattering as they are functional, and they'll make your travel wardrobe feel instantly elevated. Don't underestimate the power of a simple black maxi dress—this one has racked up over 1,300 five-star reviews and is quietly becoming a go-to for travelers who need flexibility without fuss. One reviewer called out its wrinkle-free fabric as 'ideal for packing,' not to mention its style versatility: throw it on as a beach cover-up in Tulum, dress it up with wedges for a sunset dinner in Miami, or pair with a denim jacket and sneakers for a long-haul flight. Chic and under $45? This asymmetrical satin maxi checks all the boxes for destination wedding season. The sleek one-shoulder neckline and high-shine finish give this formal number a slight edge, ideal if you're headed to a warm-weather event in Palm Springs or Santorini. Available in more than 30 colors (yes, bridesmaid potential), the fabric is lightweight enough to handle tropical heat and stylish enough to earn compliments at cocktail hour. This tiered smock maxi dress brings an easy elegance to every destination—think wine tasting in Sonoma, museum hopping in Madrid, or brunch in Brooklyn. The frilled shoulders and shirred bodice add shape without restriction, and yes, it has pockets. One reviewer put it best: 'It's perfect for a hot day when you have to dress up.' Bonus: it folds down small for saving space in a carry-on. Gingham never goes out of style, especially when you're heading somewhere like Nantucket or the French countryside. This smocked plaid dress has playful ruffle sleeves and two handy side pockets, and it manages to feel polished without trying too hard. One reviewer said it's 'light and airy without being overly flowy,' making it ideal for farmers market mornings or breezy picnics at the park. If your travel wardrobe leans minimalist, this linen-cotton blend maxi will slot in effortlessly. The black piping adds just enough contrast to make it feel styled without much effort. Wear it with sleek slides and a black crossbody for a refined city look in Lisbon, or go barefoot in the backyard with a glass of wine. Adjustable straps and a back tie make it easy to tailor on the go. This striped shirt dress has 'Euro summer' written all over it. One shopper wore it through Dubai and called it 'fabulous and comfortable'—and we can picture it just as easily in other sunny destinations like Positano or Cannes. Wear it open over a swimsuit by day, then button it up and add statement earrings for dinner. At $31, it's the kind of affordable find that looks way more expensive than it is. Polka dots are having a major moment this year, and this vintage-inspired dress captures that playful charm. The tiered ruffles and cinched waist give it movement and shape, making it perfect for anything from a sunset sail in Croatia to a family dinner in the Hamptons. One traveler called it a beach vacation must-have: 'The material does not wrinkle…exactly what I was looking for.' A white dress is the backbone of every travel wardrobe, and this one is about as versatile as it gets. The tie sleeves and airy A-line fit make it just right for beach strolls in Maui or rooftop dinners in Cartagena. Add gold jewelry and heels for evening wear, or keep it casual with espadrilles and a tote. Either way, expect compliments. This pleated number has serious range. It works for the office (add a blazer and loafers), spring weddings (gold heels and a clutch), or even a breezy day exploring a new city. The high waist elongates the body, while the A-line shape flatters from every angle. The sage green is a standout, but with several hues available, you can even coordinate it for a bridesmaid lineup. Tropical getaways practically demand a dress like this. With its strapless neckline, subtle side slit, and body-hugging silhouette, it was made for sipping cocktails under palm trees in Miami or dancing the night away in Barcelona. Multiple reviewers praised its wrinkle-resistance, including one who scored it last-minute for a destination wedding and was shocked by how polished it looked straight out of the suitcase. Stripes never get old, especially when they're cleverly designed like this. With a flattering mix of horizontal and vertical lines, this maxi brings just enough visual interest to feel elevated. Throw on a structured blazer for a business lunch abroad, or wear it solo for an afternoon of wine tasting. It'll become your new fuss-free favorite that pairs well with both sneakers and sandals. This dress is practically made for Instagram photos in colorful cities like Key West or Buenos Aires. The bold contrast between the base color and white design gives it that statement-making energy while still being effortless to wear. One reviewer called it 'very flattering and not see-through,' and said it turned heads all weekend. Pair the red version with white accessories for a punchy summer outfit that travels well.
