‘No Choice but to Accept': Aynaoui on Dream Roma Move

AS Roma have completed the signing of Moroccan midfielder Neil Aynaoui from French side Lens on a permanent deal running until 2030. The 23-year-old was unveiled on Saturday as the Serie A club's newest addition. Aynaoui, who will wear the No. 8 shirt, arrives after two impressive seasons with Lens, during which he made 130 appearances, scoring 17 goals and assisting 8. Speaking to French platform Capté Media, Aynaoui revealed how he learned the news: 'It was a special moment. I found out about my move to Roma through my younger brother. There had been contacts with Roma, but I got the confirmation from him.' 'It wasn't a surprise because I had been in touch with the club before, but I still felt very proud — this is a special moment in my football career.' Born in Nancy, France, to Moroccan parents on 2 July 2001, Aynaoui progressed through the academy of AS Nancy and made his senior debut in 2021. He joined Lens in the summer of 2023 and quickly established himself as a regular in Ligue 1. Although he was prepared to stay in northern France, Aynaoui said the opportunity to join Roma was too big to ignore. 'I was ready to stay at Lens, but Roma's offer changed everything. When an offer from a big club comes, you have no choice but to accept. It's every child's dream when they start playing football.' The son of former Moroccan tennis star Younes El Aynaoui, he added: 'I'm lucky to have my family. My father and mother — I grew up in a sporting environment that gave me all the support I needed.' Roma have not disclosed the financial details of the deal.

Cristian, son of Francesco Totti, announces retirement at 19

Cristian, son of AS Roma legend Francesco Totti, announced his retirement from football at the age of 19 on Monday. Though he gave no official reason for the decision, several media reports have claimed that the pressure of being a legend's son weighed too much on him. Totti, a FIFA World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, spent his entire career at AS Roma, playing over 780 matches and scoring 307 goals. He won the Serie A once and the Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa Italiana twice with the side, earning the nickname L'Ottavo Re di Roma (the eighth King of Rome) from the club's fans. Cristian, however, had a different trajectory in professional football. Cristian's most recent experiences included short spells with Avezzano & Olbia in Italy's fourth division. | Photo Credit: Instagram/cristiantotti__ He began his youth career at Roma but limited game-time — 15 minutes across two U18 — saw him move to Frosinone Primavera, where he scored once in four matches. He then had a brief spell at Rayo Vallecano in Spain, while his most recent experiences included short spells with Avezzano & Olbia in Italy's fourth division. However, he constantly remained under heavy criticism — especially body shaming — on social media, with some calling him Captain Salsiccia (Captain Sausage). 'He was treated like dirt because he's the son of Francesco and Ilary (Blasi),' Ninni Corda, the technical director of Olbia, had told Sportitalia in an earlier interview. Cristian, however, will not be away from football entirely. He will now work at the Totti Soccer School, founded by his father.
