Sky customers can unlock extra TV channels, movies and shows for FREE – I found three easy ways to bag bonus telly
SKY customers looking for some fresh telly on the cheap can easily unlock bonus TV channels, movies and shows. If you're not content with the regular channels on offer, there are some free ways to get even more TV on your screen. 4 4 There are three apps on your Sky TV that can give you extra telly to watch. You can find them right in the Apps & Inputs folder on your Home Screen. If you can't see them right away, you might need to scroll right to the end. FREE SKY TV APPS First up is Xumo Play, which has over 75 channels available to watch for free. The catch is that you'll need to sit through ads – but that's the case with most Sky TV channels anyway. Load up the app and you'll be able to scroll through a special bonus TV guide with loads of channels. That includes a Xumo Movies channel (with some "originals), plus Sky Sports Classics, Dateline 24/7, and a Mythbusters channel. It also has loads of on-demand TV shows and movies too. It doesn't carry the big names you might find on Netflix or Disney+, but it's a great way to find a cheesy film for movie night. The second app worth taking a look at for free telly is called U. Its official description reads: "Whether you love documentaries, crave comedy or want to lose yourself in a great drama – whatever you want to watch, whenever you want to watch it." Sky expert reveals top tricks to get the best out of your telly U is packed with on-demand content across for loads of different TV shows. For instance, you can watch The Office, Would I Lie To You?, I'm Alan Partridge, Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown, Doctor Foster, MasterChef Australia, Prison Break, and The Bill. It's all content from UKTV's free-to-air channels like U&Dave, U&Drama, U&W, and U&Yesterday. There's no subscription fee, but you will need to register for an account before you can watch any telly. 4 The app is pretty easy to navigate, and there's almost a lifetime of telly on there. Third on the list is STV Player, which does have two paid-for packages – but can be accessed totally free. The free TV tier gets you live TV (including entertainment telly), plus catch-up content. You'll have to sign up first and also sit through ads, but there's no fee to pay. You can remove ads for £3.99 a month and wrap in Premier Sports for £16.99 a month. 4 But if you just want some free telly, it's a decent option. It features MasterChef USA, Undercover Boss Canada, loads of history and documentaries, as well as '90s classic Byker Grove. Once you start using these apps, they should appear closer to the front of your apps list. That'll make them easier to find next time. It's an easy way to get more out of the Sky service that you're already pay for. FIND YOUR LOST REMOTE Here's another trick for Sky TV owners... Sky has two handy ways to find your lost TV remote, depending on your set-up. If you've lost your Sky Q remote, press the Q button on the front of your Sky box. That will cause your remote to loudly beep for 30 seconds so you can find it. If you've got a Sky Glass instead, just stand near your TV and say "Hello Sky, find my remote." That'll trigger the remote to start beeping. Just press any button on the remote once you've found it to end the beeping. Picture Credit: Sky
