Unearthed video exposes Mamdani's 'unabashed' commitment to supporting anti-Israel sanctions as lawmaker
FIRST ON FOX: A resurfaced interview by New York City socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani highlights his commitment to BDS and sanctions against Israel, as he runs for mayor in a city with the highest Jewish population in the United States outside of Israel. "I'm very excited about being a member of DSA, specifically the New York City chapter," Mamdani told SAAG Interactive in June 2021. "Within the questionnaire when you submit to be considered a candidate to be endorsed by the organization, you're asked what your views are on BDS and I think that has also brought what it is typically thought of as a separate issue into the sphere of local politics where we create a bench of candidates. We're not legislating on BDS on a daily basis, but it's clear that our commitment is unabashed to justice." Mamdani was interviewed in the clip by a journalist named Naib Mian, who has a social presence littered with anti-Israel posts, including accusing Israel of benefitting from "manufacturing antisemitism" and defending the phrase "from the river to the sea." Mamdani went on to speak more about BDS, an acronym for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, in the interview, saying that "the ways in which we can marry our struggle to our day-to-day life and show our solidarity in that life, I think that's critical to winning this fight because it can't all be, as you've very well stated, just kind of exclusively considered a legislative battle. It has to be a society-wide battle." "And I think there is no thing that's too banal to stand up against the brutality of the occupation and apartheid. And so, you know, if it's a shipping container, or if it is a university that is being funded, a university that helped to develop IDF's weapons technology, or it is an event with an Israeli ambassador, whatever it may be, I think that we have to showcase what that solidarity looks like." Dating back to his college days, Mamdani has expressed support for BDS, which Influence Watch describes as "an international campaign to delegitimize the State of Israel as the expression of the Jewish people's right to national self-determination by isolating the country economically through consumer boycotts, business and government withdrawal of investment, and legal sanctions." Mamdani, who founded the Students for Justice in Palestine chapter at the prestigious Bowdoin College in Maine, wrote about the importance of an academic boycott of Israel in the school paper, Fox News Digital previously reported. "It also helps to highlight just how intertwined this oppression is, and just how much it relies on us normalizing it and saying that, you know, my convictions stop at the point when it becomes inconvenient, and we have to showcase that convenience means nothing in the face of these things," Mamdani said in the interview. "On a personal level, I am very much committed to actively working to stop any additional anti-BDS bills that come through the Assembly." Mamdani told Mian that he has been working on a letter to "circulate to support proactive measures that we can take to stop apartheid and to hold Israel accountable." Mamdani continued, "My predecessor was somebody who very much marched in support and showed up at press conferences in support of the Israeli state. And I am somebody who is unabashedly in support of Palestinian liberation. My constituency hasn't changed that much in between our terms. But it's very clear to me that my constituency now, after I've said these things, the response that I received is just overwhelmingly in support. And so there are so many other people, so many other districts in New York City where people are just waiting to be given the go-ahead to express that solidarity." Mamdani said that it is "my job" to give those people he previously mentioned "as many opportunities as possible and to push as many other colleagues of mine and people in any place of power to do the same." "I really do believe that we have not yet hit the ceiling of support for the Palestinian people's fight for justice," Mamdani said. Fox News Digital reached out to the Mamdani campaign for comment. Mamdani's support for BDS has drawn criticism from Jewish groups in New York and his father, Mahmood, has also voiced support for BDS while sitting on the advisory board of a tribunal that has routinely called for sanctions against Israel," Fox News Digital previously reported. Mamdani has defended his support of BDS on the campaign trail, including in May where he said, "My support for BDS is consistent with my core of my politics, which is non-violence."

Sharda panel probes BDS student death
The internal committee formed by Sharda University to investigate the alleged suicide of a 21-year-old second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student recorded the statements of the arrested assistant professors, and the report is expected on Friday, said police. A suicide note recovered from the scene reportedly contained allegations against certain college professors. (Sunil Ghosh / Hindustan Times) The student from Gurugram, was found dead on Friday evening in her room—1209(C), on the 12th floor of Mandela Hostel—in Greater Noida's Knowledge Park. A suicide note recovered from the scene reportedly contained allegations against certain college professors. 'We were informed on Thursday that the internal five-member committee formed to investigate the BDS student's suicide had recorded the statements of assistant professor Shairy Vashist and associate professor Mahinder Singh Chouhan at Luksar Jail,' said Greater Noida assistant commissioner of police (ACP) BS Vir Singh. 'The committee will submit its report to the vice chancellor on Friday, after which we will receive a copy to proceed further,' said ACP Singh. However, the statements of the deceased's family members are yet to be recorded. An official from the university, on condition of anonymity, said, 'We have contacted the deceased's parents multiple times, but they are not cooperating. We also requested them to record their statements virtually or send them in written format, but they did not do so.' Meanwhile, the deceased's father denied that anyone from the university had approached them yet. On Thursday, the police also opened the seal placed at the gate of the Dental School. 'The police have removed the seal placed at the gate of the Dental School. The premise is to be opened again for general uses. Since, police have not indicated any areas that may be important from the point of view of ongoing investigation in the Dental College, as a safety precaution, all areas in the students' locker room, administrative office, labs, faculty cabins and all other related areas be kept locked, safe and unchanged,' reads the notice issued by dean of Dental School Dr. Sukhdeep Singh. However, the deceased's father said, 'They opened the seal without our consent and there is proof of practicals that needs to be sealed.' The deceased was upset after arrested professors refused to sign the manual of dental material after they alleged that their signatures were forged by her on the manual. The student's father was also called on June 14 regarding the forged signature issue. However, the deceased denied the allegation in front of dean and her father. BDS students present manuals, a brief of the assignments during the practical exams. Sharda University public relations officer Dr. Ajit Kumar said, 'The committee has observed some changes that need to be done. They (the committee) will inform all about new reforms, changes, and suggestions in the final report. Following this, we will apply these changes with immediate effect.' Dental classes were suspended for four days but as the department was unsealed on Thursday, the college declared that annual exam practicals and clinicals will start on Friday, except for the subjects taught by arrested professors Shairy Vashist and Mahinder Singh Chouhan (Dental Material) and suspended professors Surabhi Duggal and Anurag Hasti (Pre-Clinical Prosthodontics, PCP), said a student, adding that the written exams for BDS will be postponed from July 22 to July 28. Notably, five faculty members, including Dean of Dental School Dr. M. Siddharth and four other professors, including those arrested, were suspended following the suicide of a BDS student. The university spokesperson said that they will remain suspended until the investigation against them is underway.

Dermatologists urge regulations against unauthorised aesthetic and hair transplant procedures
The Karnataka branch of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL KN) on Thursday appealed to Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil to introduce urgent regulations curbing the unauthorised conduct of aesthetic dermatology and hair transplant procedures. The association raised concerns over a 2022 public notice issued by the Dental Council of India (DCI), which is allegedly being misinterpreted by some dental professionals — including BDS graduates and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMFS) — as permission to perform invasive skin-related treatments. These include Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, hair transplantation, Botulinum toxin and filler injections, among others, despite their lack of formal training in dermatology or surgery. This practice contradicts the National Medical Commission (NMC) circular dated September 20, 2022, which clearly states that only Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) with structured postgraduate qualifications in dermatology or plastic surgery are authorised to carry out such procedures, said Girish M.S., Senior Specialist and Head of the Department of Dermatology at ESIC Medical College and Model Hospital in Rajajinagar, who was part of the delegation. As a result, a surge in unregulated 'Dental, Skin and Hair' clinics has been observed across Karnataka, with over 1,000 unqualified individuals reportedly operating illegally, he said. Cautioning that such mushrooming of unregulated clinics poses serious risks to patient safety, the association members cited at least five deaths and numerous cases of disfigurement and psychological trauma nationwide. They called for immediate government intervention and public clarification to prevent further misuse and ensure patient safety in the domain of aesthetic medicine.

Telangana HC permits petitioners to apply as local candidates for MBBS, BDS admissions
Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed the State government and the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences to permit 34 students as 'local candidates' to apply for admission into MBBS/BDS courses for 2025-26. These students appeared for NEET UG 2025 and were aspiring for admission into undergraduate medical and dental programmes. A bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar and Justice P. Sam Koshy, pronouncing the interim direction, instructed the authorities to allow these students to be registered as residents from Telangana. The applications of these candidates may also be processed. They should not be rejected on the ground of having not studied in Telangana preceding four consecutive years of the qualifying examination. Posting the matter to July 30 for next hearing, the bench said that, however, the applications of these students would be subject to outcome of their respective writ petitions. The issue of admissions into MBBS/BDS courses under competent quota got embroiled in litigation since the then State government issued G.O. no. 114 in 2017. Eighty-five per cent of seats under competent authority quota are reserved for 'local' candidates. The G.O. mandated that for a student to be eligible to avail local candidate quota, he or she should have studied for four consecutive years in Telangana preceding the qualifying examination. That meant the student claiming local quota should have studied class 9 and 10 along with intermediate first and second years consecutively within Telangana. For example, a student who was born and brought up in Telangana and studied from class 1 to 10 in Telangana but studied Intermediate in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh or any other State would not be eligible to apply for admission into MBBS/BDS as local candidate. With some students challenging this, the HC set aside the G.O. Again in 2024, the officials brought in G.O. no.33 with the same content. On July 18, a student moved the HC challenging the G.O. and seeking a direction to allow her to apply as local candidate. Senior counsel Rao contended that she had a strong case since the HC earlier (for the academic years 2023-24 and 2024-25) permitted students to apply as local candidates though they did not study in Telangana for four consecutive years preceding qualifying exam. A division bench directed the authorities to permit her to apply as local candidate. On Wednesday, 34 more students moved the HC with similar plea. The bench headed by the Chief Justice directed that the orders issued on July 18 were being extended in the fresh writ petitions as well.
