Issey Miyake's Pleats Please Makes Maternity Dressing a Delight

In the real world, most of the women with a penchant for Pleats Please that I speak to began with the brand's straight leg trousers and the tank dresses during their pregnancies. Many didn't buy specific maternity-wear, and were determined to keep true to their own sense of style. Merle Carlet, a Berlin-based creative director, bought a set of straight leg black Pleats pants in her first trimester, then, a wider set of beige pants, and a Homme Plissé t-shirt. She wears her pants and the Madame T with chunky jewelry from Uncommon Matters, The Row sock slippers, and a Bottega Veneta Jodie bag. 'An outfit you put together yesterday may not fit tomorrow,' Carlet says. 'I'm not able to wear anything like the usual pregnancy looks: I'm not a dress girl, no floral prints…I didn't want to buy things that I will only wear during pregnancy.' Pleats Please stretches itself to all of a pregnant person's priorities. It is soft and comfortable, machine washable and easydrying, and grows with the belly. London-based editor and writer Liv Siddall wore a coral, sleeveless and high-necked dress to a wedding when she was seven months pregnant and 'absolutely enormous.' 'There are so many aspects of the world that enrage and frustrate you during pregnancy, but the lack of chic or interesting maternity wear available is extraordinary,' she says. 'The fun thing about this is that you have to really use your brain as to what will work on your growing shape.' 'Often, people just look at your belly and see you as a pregnant woman, rather than a woman in your own right,' says Siddall. 'This Issey dress was like a big orange beacon that proclaimed to the world that I had a personality, an independent person with interests and style, as opposed to just an anonymous vessel carrying a baby.' 'I attended an Amina Muaddi store opening during my pregnancy and wore my A.M X AWGE heels, which have an embellished curb chain ankle strap. I wanted to make sure this was going to be shown, so I tucked the Pleats Pleases trousers into the chain which I think made the outfit!' says Fáizah Akindojuromi, a London-based creative director and producer. 'I love that the lines of the pleats really emphasize the curves of the bump.'

Ameesha Patel Jokes About Her 400 Luxury Bag Collection: ‘I'd Own A Mumbai Penthouse If…'

Ameesha Patel stuns Farah Khan with her 400 luxury bags, rare Hermès Birkins worth crores, and shoes arranged by colour. Ameesha Patel has been a South Bombay girl at heart long before she charmed audiences in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. But beyond the big screen, her passion lies in collecting some of the rarest designer bags and luxury shoes in the world. She began collecting bags at just 12 years old and today owns about 400 — each costing anywhere from lakhs to crores. Recently, filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan visited her house, capturing the experience in a vlog that left fans stunned. As the video began, an awestruck Farah remarked, 'I have never seen Ameesha repeat her bag. She must be having the maximum number of designer bags in the industry." Ameesha revealed with a smile, 'I own about 300–400 luxury bags, apart from the clutches and belt bags in my collection." She also shared that she collects luxury watches. Farah's eyes widened as she pointed to a cupboard: 'This cupboard is filled with Ameesha's Birkin bags." One of the most exclusive brands in the world, a Birkin can cost up to ₹2–3 crore. Ameesha's closet even features an organised list stuck inside, describing each shelf. One list read: 'Shelf 7: Hermes Yellow Evelyn, Hermes Baby Pink Evelyn, Hermes Fuschia Pink Evelyn, Hermes Orange Evelyn, Hermes Powder Blue Evelyn, Hermes Mini Red Evelyn, Hermes Mini White Evelyn, Dior Denim Saddle Bag, Fendi Phone Case, LV Phone Case." The Saint Laurent, the Bottega, and the Banter Pulling out a Saint Laurent bag, Ameesha delicately unwrapped it from its storage cover. Farah gasped, 'This is a bag I have wanted for so long ever and ever but it is…" and trailed off, making a face that suggested she couldn't afford it. The two then unpacked an orange Bottega Veneta bag. Farah told viewers, 'This is one of the most expensive brands in the world: Bottega Veneta." Looking at the rare piece, she added, 'This is a rare one I am seeing." Ameesha explained, 'This is a little traditional colour." Farah nodded, 'Yeah, exactly why I have never even seen it." Ameesha then revealed another of the same design in black: 'This is a little classic, this is Black." Laughing at herself, Ameesha quipped, 'If I didn't have a habit of collecting bags, I would have been owning a penthouse in Mumbai." Farah didn't miss a beat: 'I think you should marry Karan Johar." Ameesha chuckled, 'I think so too. Anyways, both of us want to be single so it is an ideal relationship." 'Don't show this to Dilip, he will simply use it to buy vegetables" Next came Ameesha's prized Andiamo Large Tote. She introduced it proudly, while Farah sighed, 'Gorgeous. Don't show this to Dilip, he will simply use it to buy vegetables." Ameesha laughed, 'They say, 'These bags are bigger and heavier than you so you use it for veggies only.'" Farah agreed, 'This is very heavy." Ameesha added, 'Yeah, and it gets heavier when I add stuff in it." The bag is worth over ₹5,80,000. Shoes Worth Lakhs The filmmaker then turned her attention to Ameesha's shoe closet, packed with Gucci and Louis Vuitton heels. Ameesha explained, 'These are a few of my night-out shoes." Farah, visibly shocked, asked, 'A few?" Ameesha had arranged them by colour — reds, golds, blues, greens, and silvers. Farah laughed, 'You can use these shoes to murder anyone." Ameesha played along, 'These are my defence weapons. If anyone ever enters my house to steal things, I can hit them with these shoes." Farah summed it up perfectly: 'Whoever enters this house for robbery will only aim for the shoes." Each pair costs between ₹80,000 and a lakh. A Collector of Books Too Amidst the sparkle, Ameesha showed her book collection. 'I love to read. I finish a book in three days. But I don't collect them, I pass them on because I believe knowledge should be shared," she said. Farah teased, 'Why don't you do the same with your shoes and bags, just pass them on… you will find me outside your house every day." Ameesha burst into laughter. Chanel, Dior, and the Birkin Crown Jewels Farah later discovered cupboards full of Chanel bags, each starting at ₹5 lakh. Spotting one in a white cover, she asked, 'Now I want to see what you have in this white bag." Ameesha revealed, 'This is a patent one with silver." Farah asked cheekily, 'How many times have you used this bag?" Ameesha smiled. Farah guessed, 'Never?" Ameesha clarified, 'No, I have." 'When?" Farah pressed. Ameesha admitted, 'I just used it last June." Farah burst out laughing, 'See, just once because she owns 365 bags." Ameesha joined in, 'Yeah, I get to use them once a year, because I use them in rotation." Farah concluded, 'And then you have 365 clutches for the night." When Ameesha opened drawers filled with belt bags and clutches, Farah exclaimed, 'Oh, baba!" Hugging a powder blue Birkin, Farah said, 'Hugging this feels better than hugging any boyfriend." Ameesha quipped back, 'Why do you think I have bags and no boys." She even joked with Farah, 'If Farah signs me in her next film, she is going to get this bag as her signing amount. I am bribing her." Pointing at her pink croc leather Birkin, Ameesha explained, 'As everyone knows, pink is my favourite colour. This is a croc Birkin, and it is in pink. It's actually made of croc leather. When I got this about 15 years ago, it was lighter pink, but leather changes colour over the years. The change makes it even rarer." Farah asked, 'Where do you use these bags?" Ameesha answered, 'When I travelled to Paris, London, and Amsterdam for my birthday last month, I carried this bag. There, I bought yet another bag for myself as my birthday gift. My friends have spoilt me too — they know the best gift they can get me is a handbag." Previously, in another interview, Ameesha had revealed, 'This bag is a Birkin and a croc, and its price now is about ₹60–70 lakh." The Collector's Legacy Explaining her connections in the luxury world, Ameesha shared, 'Every designer is aware that I am a collector, so they call me up and inform me when a bag is launched in India. Even when I travel to Dubai, Paris, London, the shopkeepers know me. Their associates know me." Farah quipped, 'Yeah, and we are known by the vegetable vendors here." With cupboards dedicated to Hermès, Chanel, Dior, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton, Ameesha Patel's home is no less than a fashion museum. Her words perhaps say it best: 'Ninety percent of my bags are not classic ones that everyone has. I have a few basics for everyday, but mostly I own limited editions."
