Dimensity chips are now better at emulating PC games on Android

One of the things that makes Android so popular is its PC-like versatility. One such example is emulating software designed for different architectures, such as playing a Windows PC game on your smartphone. One of the most popular emulators for this is GameHub, by GameSir, a company known for its game controllers. GameHub (and similar service Winlator) is best optimized for Qualcomm Snapdragon-equipped Android devices, but it's now gotten much better for MediaTek users. GameSir has announced through GameHub that it's bringing better support for MediaTek SoCs using Mali GPUs. Specifically, Dimensity 9000 to 9400 chipsets should now support DirectX9 to DirectX11 PC games "with performance comparable to Qualcomm Adreno, and even surpassing it in some scenarios." Some of the work involved improving Mali GPUs' Vulkan implementation, missing drivers, and unstable shader compilers. The GameHub team has created a "code conversion mechanism" to convert DirectX instructions for Mali GPUs. Runtime optimizations were needed in cases where drivers didn't work. The team at GameHub has reached out to MediaTek to create Mali-specific drivers for PC game emulation. MediaTek's Dimensity SoCs are very popular, but they're not the only ones using Mali GPUs - Google's in-house developer Tensor chips also use Mali graphics. They may also receive better emulation support as a result of GameHub's collaboration with MediaTek. Source

Oppo tipped to offer insane 7,500mAh battery in upcoming flagship phone

Oppo will likely launch its flagship Find X9 Pro later this year, and if rumors are to be believed, this phone will feature a giant battery and the as-yet unannounced MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset. The Find X9 Pro could also feature a 200MP periscope camera and 50W wireless charging, according to that same tipster. The potential specs come from regular Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station who posted on Weibo about the Find X9 Pro. Based on a machine translation of the DCS post, these are some impressive specs, highlighted by the battery. The X9 Pro is set to feature a 6.78-inch display running a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chip and a 7,500 mAh battery. Speciality phones can have larger batteries — at MWC 2024, my Tom's Guide colleagues saw an Energizer-branded phone with a 28,000 mAh power pack — but 7,500 mAh would be out of the ordinary for a more conventional flagship device. As an example, the current Oppo Find X8 Pro features a 5,910 mAh battery. While we don't include that device in our best phone battery life list, it was still impressive in our informal testing. DCS does not mention if the battery is a silicon carbon battery, which creates more battery cell capacity in the same amount of space as the more common lithium ion. Both Apple and Samsung are reportedly exploring using silicon carbon in their future phones. Oppo already uses silicon carbon batteries in its phones including last year's flagship. It means that despite the larger size, the Find X9 Pro will likely be smaller or the same size as its predecessor. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The largest phone battery I've seen is the gimmicky Oukitel WP100 Titan that doubles as a lamp and projector with a 33,000mAh battery. However, that phone also weighs just under 2 pounds. By comparison, the Find X8 Pro weighs 7.6 ounces. Typically, MediaTek announces its Dimensity chips in the fall, around September, and we expect a similar schedule for the Dimensity 9500. That should also be on TSMC's third-generation 3nm process, similar to the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. Oppo has largely been one of the first phone manufacturers to feature the top-end Dimensity chips in its flagship phones. Last year's excellent Find X8 Pro launched in the fall with the Dimensity 9400. Additionally, DCS claimed that the Find X9 Pro will feature a 200MP periscope camera plus a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, IP68/69 resistance and 50W charging. The camera is massive upgrade over the 50MP sensor in last year's model and could put the Find X9 Pro more on par with Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra and the iPhone 16 Pro Max — not to mention the iPhone 17 Pro Max coming in September. The fingerprint sensor was introduced in the Find X8 Ultra last year, and the OnePlus 13, launched in early 2025. Both those phones also got IP68 and IP69 resistance as well. Apple and Samsung are rumored to feature battery specs and charging speeds in upcoming devices that look a lot like their current models. So it'll be interesting to see if Oppo spurs either company to make changes down the road.

Emulating PC games on your non-Snapdragon device just got better

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority TL;DR GameSir has announced that its GameHub app now offers much better support for MediaTek chipsets with Mali GPUs. The company also revealed that it's working with MediaTek to launch custom Mali GPU drivers. GameHub lets people play PC games on their Android phones without streaming. There are a few ways to natively play PC games on your phone without streaming, with Winlator and GameSir's GameHub app being the most popular solutions. These apps traditionally offer better support for Qualcomm Snapdragon devices, but there's good news if you've got a MediaTek-powered device. GameSir announced via its app that the latest version of GameHub offers much better support for devices with Mali GPUs. It points to devices with MediaTek Dimensity chips, specifically mentioning the Dimensity 9000 to 9400 processors. It says these devices should support DirectX9 to DirectX11 PC games 'with performance comparable to Qualcomm Adreno, and even surpassing it in some scenarios.' The GameHub team delved into some technical challenges with Mali GPUs, starting with the unsatisfactory Vulkan implementation. It pointed to issues like 'unstable' shader compilers and missing driver capabilities. So how did GameSir address these problems? For one, the team said it invested time and resources in debugging/analyzing Dimensity devices and 'optimized' resource scheduling. Furthermore, it created a 'code conversion mechanism to optimize DirectX instructions into a format executable by Mali GPUs.' The team says it also made runtime optimizations in cases where the driver functionality wasn't adequate. Weirdly enough, the GameHub team also claimed that it offers 'native support' for 32-bit PC games. That sounds rather crazy, as compatibility layers like Wine or tools like Box can incur a performance penalty and technically don't offer native support. In some major news for mobile gamers, GameSir also said it's teaming up with MediaTek to eventually offer custom GPU drivers. We plan to jointly launch custom drivers with MediaTek, specifically designed for GameFusion, to address long-standing Mali GPU issues at the chip level, further enhancing the gaming performance of Dimensity devices. There's no release timeline for these drivers, though. This is still welcome news, as one major advantage of Snapdragon devices is the prevalence of open-source Adreno drivers (dubbed Turnip). These drivers can improve emulation/gaming performance and address bugs. MediaTek isn't the only chipmaker using Mali GPUs, though. Google Pixel phones with Tensor chips use Mali GPUs too. We've asked GameSir's representatives whether some of these improvements will filter down to Pixel phones. We've also asked the representatives for more details on 'native support' for 32-bit PC games. We'll update the article when the company gets back to us. Nevertheless, we hope a few of these improvements and optimizations come to Pixel devices. However, Pixel 10 rumors suggest that Google will switch to Imagination GPUs. So even if these upgrades apply to Pixel phones with Mali graphics, it won't apply to the Pixel 10 series. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Weekly poll results: the OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord CE5 get a red card

Gone are the days when OnePlus was a budget brand – but these days even its budget product line is seen as too expensive. That or it's not competitive in the current mid-range market. Last week's poll painted a grim picture of Nord 5's and Nord CE5's future. The OnePlus Nord 5 fared pretty poorly, with a plurality of people voting against its hardware. The second largest group thought that it was too expensive. The two are related, of course, but it's not just about the value for money equation. The Nord 4 had a unique look with that aluminum unibody – the Nord 5 looks ordinary by comparison. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset is pretty powerful, but you can get the newer 8s Gen 4 for less money than the Nord 5. And the 50+8MP camera was seen as nothing special. The IP65 rating and small battery on the international model were also commonly brought up as issues. The OnePlus Nord CE5 got the clearest message we've seen yet – 'No, I don't like the hardware' got over 80% of the vote. It's not even a question about it being too expensive (the price in India is too close to the Nord 5, for example), people in the comments just poked too many holes in the spec sheet. Some felt that the Dimensity 8350 Apex chipset didn't get enough cooling and throttling hurt its sustained performance. Others pointed to the lack of stereo speakers (the CE4 had them). Going from a 7,100mAh battery in the model for India to 5,200mAh for the global one is a major downgrade too. The microSD slot did earn the CE5 some points, though not enough. The Nord series is in a bad spot right now as it is facing strong competition in the mid-range market. A price cut can give the OnePlus Nord 5 a boost, but that might not be enough to save the Nord CE5. OnePlus Nord 5 5G OnePlus Nord CE5 5G
