Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Out of the many stars confirmed to appear in next year's event movie "Avengers: Doomsday," Ryan Reynolds' isn't among them. But the "Deadpool & Wolverine" star's social media may have you thinking otherwise. Early Monday morning, Reynolds posted an image to his official Instagram page of a white Avengers logo. A red anarchy symbol was drawn over the superhero team's logo. You can see the post below. The cryptic post was put up without any accompanying caption, leaving fans to speculate on exactly what it means. Read More: Josh Brolin Teases Potential Marvel Thanos Return Not long after the names of the "Avengers: Doomsday" cast were revealed, Kevin Feige indicated there were more names likely to be added to the list. Considering how prominently the multiverse will factor into the "Doomsday" story and how much it revolved around last year's "Deadpool & Wolverine," Reynolds Merc with a Mouth would seem like a natural fit. Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool. 20th Century Studios/Marvel Entertainment It's also possible Reynolds' post refers not to "Doomsday," but to the 2027 follow-up "Avengers: Secret Wars." It would not be unlike the Russo brothers to save some of the Marvel heroes for the second film. Fans will remember both Paul Rudd's Ant-Man and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye were absent from 2018's "Avengers: Infinity War," but both proved pivotal to the 2019 follow-up "Avengers: Endgame." If Reynolds does show up in either "Doomsday" or "Secret Wars," it could be the last time fans see Deadpool for a while. A recent report from Variety claimed that Marvel sees projects like "Deadpool 4" and "Blade" as low priorities. The report is surprising considering the success of 2024's "Deadpool & Wolverine." The film pulled in $1.3 billion globally, giving Marvel the kinds of numbers it hasn't seen in a while, and is unlikely to see with "The Fantastic Four: First Steps." "Avengers: Doomsday" is scheduled to hit theaters December 18, 2026. It is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr. More Comics News: James Gunn Directing DC's Next 'Super-Family' Movie 'Spider-Punk' Movie On the Way From 'Black Panther' Star 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Teaser Previews New Costume

The Reported Second ‘Avengers: Doomsday' Cast List Is Ridiculously Long
Marvel made a big deal out of rolling out a number of chairs in a weird video that revealed the cast of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, indicating which heroes would or would not appear in that film. Now, a second list is being reported ahead of rumors that more cast members will be revealed soon. It's from supposed insider Jeff Sneider and it's just…utterly ridiculous. To start, we can remind ourselves of the officially revealed list from Marvel, which is mainly straggling Avengers, Thunderbolts and FOX X-Men: It's an Avengers movie, so it's obviously a huge cast, 25 characters in all. Obviously it stands to reason that they are hiding a few guest appearances or perhaps some wholly new characters, but still, giant list. The idea that the Doomsday list could get even bigger to a significant degree, the way this second list suggests, makes no sense. Ready for this second list? Well, it features pretty much every single character that still exists in the MCU minus those others: That is 33(!) new characters added to the original list of 25, making for a grand total of 58 characters that would appear in a movie that cannot be longer than three hours. And yes, this is reportedly just for Doomsday, not Secret Wars as well. Additions here are more FOX X-Men, the entire Guardians of the Galaxy cast, bigger names like Doctor Strange, Hulk and Hawkeye, what appears to be half the supporting characters of Loki, all of The Marvels and more. We're missing who? Maybe a handful of characters from MCU TV shows, at best. Oh, and Spider-Man, funnily enough, who even with 58 character is still not showing up. Again, it's an Avengers movie, and we had a lot of characters in something like Avengers: Endgame, right? Let's check back on that list. I won't do another lengthy line-up list here, but the end result is that there are 28 characters in Endgame, and we're even including people like Happy Hogan or the Peggy Carter cameo in that. The idea there would be more than double that in Doomsday, bringing in 90% of the existing MCU is not going to happen, sorry. So if you see this, don't believe it.
