Kia reports record revenues in Q2

Kia Corporation reported a 6.5% rise in revenues year-on-year to a record KRW 29.35 trillion in the second quarter of 2025, driven by strong global demand for its hybrid models, higher average selling prices (ASP) and favourable exchange rates. The South Korean automaker saw its operating profit plunge by over 24% to KRW 2.77 trillion, however, reflecting higher sales incentives and a much tougher international trade environment, following the recent US import tariff hikes. The company's operating margin was still a highly respectable 9.4%. Net profits, including non-controlling interests, fell by 23.3% to KRW 2.27 trillion. Switch Auto Insurance and Save Today! Affordable Auto Insurance, Customized for You Great Rates and Award-Winning Service The Insurance Savings You Expect Kia's global vehicle sales increased by 2.5% to 814,888 units in the second quarter of 2025, driven by a 14% rise in sales of electrified models to 185,000 units. Domestic sales were lifted by the recent launch of the EV4 battery-powered sedan and the Tasman pickup truck, while US sales were helped by strong demand for the Carnival Hybrid MPV and K4 sedan and sales in India were supported by the recent launch of the Syros compact SUV. Kia also reported strong growth in markets in the Middle East and Africa, while sales in Europe declined, in line with weak overall market demand and slowing Sportage uptake ahead of the launch of the Sportage PE, which is scheduled to be unveiled in the third quarter. Outlook Kia said it will continue to adopt flexible strategies to deal with the ongoing global market uncertainties, including maintaining appropriate inventory levels and demand-based production, implementing incentive strategies centered on profitability and customer value. In South Korea, the automaker will continue to focus on expanding sales of hybrid models, including hybrid versions of Sportage, Sorento and Carnival models, as well as expanding its BEV range with the launch of the EV5 and PV5 models. In the US the company will continue to focus on enhancing profitability by increasing the supply of hybrid versions of the Sportage, Sorento and Carnival models, while in Europe it plans to launch the EV4 in the third quarter. In India the company will soon introduce its first full-electric, made-in-India Carens Clavis EV, while also strengthening its dealer network. Kia said it remains committed to completing its full EV lineup by 2026, including rolling out its new EV4, EV5, and EV2 models globally. The company will continue to expand its global presence by offering more hybrid models and entering new segments, including hybrid versions of the Telluride and Seltos SUVs, which will line up alongside a growing range of PBVs and pickup trucks. Kia reports record quarterly revenue despite profit decline

-- Kia Corporation on Friday announced record quarterly revenue of KRW 29.35 trillion in the second quarter of 2025, representing a 6.5% increase YoY, despite a 24.1% drop in operating profit to KRW 2.77 trillion. The South Korean automaker achieved its highest-ever quarterly global sales of 814,888 vehicles, up 2.5% YoY, driven by strong hybrid model demand and new vehicle launches. The company maintained a 9.4% operating profit margin, which it claims is the highest among major global automakers, though profits were pressured by higher incentives and global trade challenges. "Robust sales of hybrid models in global markets, higher average selling price, and favorable exchange rates helped support our record revenue results," said a Kia executive. Net profit including non-controlling interest fell 23.3% YoY to KRW 2.27 trillion. Electrified vehicle sales grew 14% to 185,000 units, now representing 23.4% of Kia's global sales compared to 21.4% a year earlier. Hybrid models led this growth with a 23.9% increase to 111,000 units, while battery-electric vehicle sales rose 8.3% to 59,000 units. Regional performance varied, with strong results in North America from the Carnival (NYSE:CCL) Hybrid MPV and K4 sedan. The new EV4 electric sedan and Tasman pickup boosted Korean sales, while the Syros SUV launch drove growth in India. European sales declined slightly due to industry-wide demand weakness. Looking ahead, Kia plans to maintain sales momentum by expanding its hybrid lineup and completing its full electric vehicle range by 2026, including the upcoming EV4, EV5, and EV2 models. The company will also enter new segments with vehicles like hybrid versions of the Telluride and Seltos SUVs. Watch out Tesla, Kia is on the attack again

If Kia's new EV4 hatchback didn't quite grab your attention when it went on sale earlier this summer then the new EV4 Fastback might do the trick. Pricing and specifications of the longer version of the EV4 are now available and order books are open, too, ahead of first deliveries this autumn. Advertisement - Article continues below While the EV4 hatchback gives Kia a fresh competitor against the likes of the Skoda Elroq and Volkswagen ID.3, the EV4 Fastback morphs into a saloon-style shape, offering an alternative to the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2. Pricing for the EV4 Fastback starts at £40,895 for the GT-Line and £45,395 for the GT-Line S. Those are the only two trim options available on the Fastback, which only comes with an 81.4kWh battery, while the EV4 hatchback can be had with the more basic 'Air' trim and with a smaller 58.3kWh pack from £34,695. Kia claims the EV4 Fastback is the most aerodynamic EV it's ever made, with a drag coefficient of 0.23. However, despite this and using the same size battery that's available in the EV4 hatchback, the EV4 Fastback tops out at 380 miles for both of those trim levels - the hatch can cover up to 388 miles. That's still a little way off the Polestar 2's maximum of 408 miles and the Tesla Model 3 Long Range's 436 miles. Sitting on the same 400V architecture as the hatch, the Fastback can recharge its 81.4kWh battery from 10 to 80 per cent in 29 minutes when using a 350kW fast charger. An 11kW AC charger will see the same top up take five hours and 20 minutes. Advertisement - Article continues below Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below As with the hatch, the Fastback gets a single front-mounted electric motor with 201bhp and 283Nm of torque, which is enough to get it from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds. That's a little slower than the hatch's 7.7-second time for the benchmark sprint, although the fastest model is the lighter EV4 hatchback with a larger 58.3kWh battery, which takes 7.4 seconds. Kia hasn't said how much the Fastback weighs, but we expect it to be heavier than the hatch considering its slightly lower range figure and slower acceleration time. Maintaining almost the exact same design as the EV4 concept revealed in late 2023, the Fastback is also 300mm longer than the hatch, with all of that coming from the rear overhang. The roofline is also 5mm lower, giving the Fastback a more rakish stance to go with the sloped rear roof. The latter tapers beyond the heads of the rear passengers, so hopefully interior space isn't impinged by the Fastback's proportions. The Fastback has a 490-litre, beating the hatch's 435-litre capacity. Those numbers don't tell the full the story, however, because the hatchback's more versatile opening area is likely to claw back some practicality points. All Kia EV4s, whether a hatch or Fastback, get the same dash layout, with a 12.3-inch driver's display and 12.3-inch central touchscreen, plus a 5.3-inch panel for climate controls in between. There's also wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four USB-C ports throughout the cabin, automatic air-conditioning, heated front seats, LED lights front and rear, plus a slew of safety features, such as highway driving assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance and rear cross-traffic avoidance. The EV4 Fastback GT-Line comes with 19-inch wheels, 'GT-Line' exterior styling, gloss black on the door mirrors, side sills and wheelarches, tinted rear windows, a two-tone artificial leather interior and a wireless smartphone charger. GT-Line S models add a sunroof, a unique LED headlight signature, heated outer rear seats, heated and ventilated front seats, an electric bootlid, a three-pin plug socket for the interior, a vehicle-to-load adapter, an uprated Harman Kardon sound system, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera and a heat pump. Kia on a charge with EV3

EV3 registrations in the South Korean market totalled 12,525 units in H1 of which 1,884 were sold last month. And even though this means the car was down in 22nd place, that's almost double the YtD volume of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. How about the Ioniq 9? Its tally is 3,608, while 3,277 examples of the new EV4 were delivered. Meanwhile, 59,129 units of the Kia Sorento found buyers, making it the country's number one model. KAIDA does not break out data by power source, so while the Kia Ray (25,269) and Genesis G80 (22,201) also put in good numbers, we don't know how many of each were the electric variants. Generally speaking, Korean buyers are not yet embracing EVs in a major way, leading local OEMs to channel lots of production towards Europe. Especially as both American and Chinese buyers are generally indifferent to HMG's brands' cars-with-cords. The top-selling EV for private buyers in Britain If we are still in a phase where EVs are but a small part of the global car market then no-one has told British buyers. Kia is doing especially well, the EV3 ending H1 as the country's most popular electric passenger vehicle at a retail sales level. Kia did in fact set a new record of 62,005 combined liquid-fuel and electrified cars and SUVs in the year to the end of June. Which as of now makes it the UK's number three brand, 1,600 vehicles clear of Ford and 5,700 behind BMW with VW (94,156) way out in front of both. Let's see what happens during the next few months though, as both Ford (10,204, +20.1%) and, unusually, Hyundai (10,109, +9.9%) beat Kia (10,043, -2.7%) in June. Battery models have risen to now make up one quarter of the British market for new vehicles. With the government handing out GBP650 m in fresh subsidies to those rich enough to buy a new EV, registrations could surge. And that will be great news for the nation's number one Korean make. Kia's big ambitions for EVs Already, the EV3's 6,293 sales are a little more than one tenth of Kia's total. And while the Sportage is well loved (23,012 sold between 1 January and 30 June with a freshened model available soon) there is no electric variant. This brand is smart enough not to have gone all-in on EVs, instead slowly-slowly readying itself and buyers for the eventual era when IC-only passenger cars will no longer be available. Here in Britain, that situation is within sight so all these new EV-plus-one-number models are poised to become a potential major force. It was as long ago as October 2023 when the world first saw the EV3, and, at 4.3 m long, presently the smallest Kia on a native-electric architecture. An EV2 is in development and an EV1 might well follow closer to 2030, while the EV6 has just been facelifted and EV4 build starts at the Žilina factory in Slovakia as soon as next month. EV1 to EV9? Things have, however, shifted somewhat since Kia Corporation held its EV Day only 21 months ago. Back then, existing and confirmed future models were EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6 and EV9 with a stated goal of offering 15 EVs by 2027. Annual sales of one million electric Kias by 2026 was a further ambition. That would have accounted for 25 percent of the company's total forecast of passenger vehicle production. Then by 2030, this was to be 1.6 million units per annum. Heady stuff, those goals. However, The Trump Administration, a flood of cheap EVs in China and general volatility for interest in electric cars the world over have combined to Kia Corporation revise its outlook. Demand continues to see-saw throughout Europe and Asia while a further downturn in North America is forecast. Build in Korea, and soon, in the USA We west Europeans are pretty much the main target for the EV3, the UK being the region's second largest market for electric cars. Not that Kia builds it here; instead Autoland Gwangmyeong is the lead plant, producing both LHD and RHD examples. Also known as Gyeonggi No 2, this facility now manufactures only EVs following a temporary idling and refit in 2023. The small-to-medium-sized SUV will also be made at Kia's Monterrey factory in Mexico, the specially modified EV3 for North America having a third, lower case letter (SVm) in its codename. Both are based on HMG's E-GMP and have a 400-volt electrical architecture whereas the larger EV6 and EV9 each have an 800-V one as well as a rear-biased drive system. While the model is still a fairly new addition to the line-up for the UK, it dates to a world debut at the Busan motor show 13 months ago. South Korea was the first market (July 2024) with sales in LHD European countries commencing in the final quarter of last year. And as was recently confirmed, the EV4 and EV5 are both coming to Europe within the next six to twelve months. Roominess as standard Anyone familiar with even the EV9 or just-facelifted EV6 will still find the EV3 to be a new kind of Kia. Compared to something like the Ceed it's completely different and that includes not just the way it looks and drives but how the interior is laid out. In common with the similarly proportioned VW ID.3, there is a vast amount of space in a package that's bigger than a Polo yet smaller than a Golf. Drive is to just the one axle - the front one - though a two-motors all-wheel drive GT variant is said to be on the way. The wheelbase, which is 2,680 mm, helps explain how HMG created a car which is 120 mm shorter than the e-Niro yet has oodles of room for legs. The dashboard, seats, door cards, even the headlining look like next generation components and have strong links to existing electric Kias such as the EV6 and EV9. Kia specifies a 150 kW (204 PS) and 283 Nm motor for all variants but with two battery choices, those being 58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh. Not that you can see any of the major drive system parts: lifting the bonnet reveals mostly lots of black plastic shielding. There is however a small boot, its 25 litres of capacity being only just enough to hold the charging cables. The luggage bay, on the other hand, is big, with an official volume of 460 litres. Typically electric: heavy, even in base form I had only a brief drive of the EV3 and it did impress, even if the ADAS can be a touch too-keen. Happily, real buttons exist to deactivate Lane Assist. This being a heavy car for its size - 1,750-1,850-ish kilos depending on the battery - the ride is nicely smooth but the steering could do with a little more in terms of a direct feel. It's brisk enough, though top speed is a mere 106 mph or 170 km/h and the best range is an indicated 350 miles, that being for ideal conditions with the larger battery. If you're wondering about their chemistry, that's NCMA. These nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum lithium-ion cells were developed via a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution. Kia Corporation is hoping for peak global sales of 200,000 cars annually, of which 25,000-30,000 should be in South Korea. The way things are going, 2026 could see that achieved, things being helped along greatly by the European region, with the UK likely to remain an especially strong market."Kia on a charge with EV3" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand.
