Sunderland reach verbal agreement with Granit Xhaka; Bayer Leverkusen reject first offer

Florian Plettenberg reports that Sunderland have reached a verbal agreement with Granit Xhaka (32) over a three-year contract, until 2028, with an option to extend for a further year. This comes just 24 hours after Xhaka made it known that if he was to leave Bayer Leverkusen, then it would only be for Sunderland, despite interest from Inter and Milan, as well as a verbal agreement with Saudi club Neom SC – although the Swiss midfielder and his family appeared hesitant on a move to Saudi Arabia. As such, Sunderland are now in pole position. According to Plettenberg, negotiations between Sunderland and Bayer Leverkusen are now ongoing but the Bundesliga side have rejected an opening offer from the Black Cats, who returned to the Premier League for the first time since 2017. With no agreement, as of yet, in sight, die Werkself are demanding up to €20m for Xhaka. GGFN | Daniel Pinder

'Over €40m' – Romano jacks up price of in-demand Chelsea star again; sporting directors ready to cash in

Transfer insiders Florian Plettenberg and Fabrizio Romano have had something of a rivalry all summer, going back and forth over the specific details of deals like the Noni Madueke to Arsenal move and trying to show each other up. Transfer insiders go head to head over Portugal international price Renato Veiga's price keeps climbing upwards as interest in the defender increases. It happened again yesterday – Plettenberg the pretender wrote yesterday morning that Atletico Madrid had joined Bayern Munich in the race to sign Renato Veiga from Chelsea with a speculated price of €35m. Romano wants his own back by adding further exclusive detail – and in this case he's claimed that Chelsea want 'over €40m' for the versatile defender. That would work out as something like €35m plus some add ons and bonuses, but it's still a pretty significant difference. Veiga wants out because he feels he's too far back in the pecking order both at left back and centre back to be a regular ahead of the World Cup next summer, for which he wants to play week in week out to secure his place in the Portugal first team. Chelsea are happy to cash in on an asset which has seen its value skyrocket since he arrived from Basel a year ago. Sporting directors will be delighted with quick flip of bargain buy Whether it's €30m, €35m or €40m, a sale at that level will represent a great success for our sporting directors. They bought Veiga as a pretty much total unknown a year ago, juiced him up with some Conference League games and a loan to Juve, and now are set to cash in majorly on him. That's good scouting, good business on the buy price, and good development of the prospect with steady minutes at a high level. Great work all round.

Sky journalist reveals the next EPL star Man United will look to sign after Mbeumo

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson now that they have seemingly reached the finish line for Bryan Mbeumo. After more than a month of ongoing talks, the Red Devils have finally found an agreement with Brentford for the 25-year-old Cameroonian winger, and the cost of the operation could reach £71 million. Mbeumo would be the second major signing of the summer for Man Utd who have already acquired the services of Matheus Cunha. As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano on Friday afternoon, INEOS will now turn their attention towards a new striker who can complete the attacking trident, one who can prove to be an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund. Man Utd set sights on Nicolas Jackson (Photo by) While the Italian journalist didn't mention any potential candidates in his latest update, he had already named Jackson as a profile liked by Man Utd earlier this week. MUFC's interest in the Chelsea star has now been further confirmed, as Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg has identified him as one of the profiles on the club's shortlist. The German transfer market expert insists that United are also monitoring other profiles, and they have yet to make progress in their attempts to land Jackson. However, he believes that this is a track worth keeping an eye on in the coming days and weeks. Jackson one of names on United's shortlist Plettenberg adds that Jackson's Stamford Bridge departure is a possibility this summer, despite being tied to the Blues with a contract running until the summer of 2033. The former Villarreal star signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2023 on a deal worth circa £33 million. He has thus far made 81 appearances for the West Londoners, scoring 30 goals and providing 12 assists in the process. However, the versatile striker has been criticised for his knack of wasting sitters, and he could lose his starting berth following the arrival of Liam Delap, who snubbed Man Utd in favour of joining Enzo Marseca's side.
