Hollywood A-lister reveals why she was 'pitted against' Jennifer Aniston
Sandra Bullock has opened up about being 'pitted against' Jennifer Aniston, and how they sparked a fierce friendship anyway. The pair have become staples of Hollywood, having made their breakthroughs in the early 90s – with Sandra stealing the scene in 1994 blockbuster Speed, while Jennifer played Rachel Green to perfection on wildly popular sitcom Friends. However, speaking to Vanity Fair about their bond, the Miss Congeniality legend, 61, revealed that people in the industry didn't want women to become close, instead preferring them to feud. Unpacking their friendship, which was sparked at a mutual friend's wedding around 15 years ago, she recalled: 'We were from that time in the business where no one wanted the ladies to be friends – it was about pitting everyone against each other. 'We were told we weren't supposed to do that – meaning like and respect and honor each other.' Thankfully, Sandra and Jennifer, 56, reconnected at the wedding and spent the night 'cutting loose' and taking shots – which sounds like our dream evening. Despite the ensuing hangovers, they discovered that they had a lot in common – including the fact that they both dated Tate Donovan – and forged a close friendship which is clearly going strong to this day. 'Nothing is for her alone ever. Everything she does is for everyone else included,' the Practical Magic icon proudly said of her pal. 'I think her superpower is that she could very easily be hard, but she's incredibly open. 'People want to know about her and understand where she is in life and want her to be happy.' Another famous face in the industry that Sandra has kept up a close friendship with is Keanu Reeves – who she starred opposite in Speed. More Trending The drama of having to thwart a bomb on a bus clearly didn't dissuade them from working together again, as they previously declared that they want to reprise their roles in a third instalment. While movie bosses are yet to make our dreams come true with Speed 3, Sandra and Keanu will be sharing the screen again in yet another romantic thriller. According to reports, they have been tapped up for a new Amazon MGM Studios project, which has been described as 'propulsive'. Many fans returned to the memoir when Perry died a year after its release. If you want to pick up the book for yourself, Perry's memoir is currently available on Amazon in Kindle, hardcover, or Audible audiobook formats (narrated by the actor himself). 'Hi, my name is Matthew, although you may know me by another name. My friends call me Matty. And I should be dead,' begins the memoir, before detailing anecdotes of a burst colon and a heart stoppage just a few years ago — both resulting from his drug usage. At one point during filming for Season 3 of Friends, Perry says he was taking 55 Vicodin a day: 'I had to have 55 every day, otherwise I'd get so sick,' he writes. 'It was a full-time job: making calls, seeing doctors, faking migraines, finding crooked nurses who would give me what I needed.' In a recent New York Times interview around the memoir's release, Perry shared that he's 'spent $9 million or something trying to get sober' over the years. But addiction isn't the book's sole focus. Perry recounts his love life with partners including Friends co-star Courteney Cox, Julia Roberts, and Molly Hurwitz, as well as his friendship with Jennifer Aniston, who confronted him about his drug use: 'To be confronted by Jennifer Aniston was devastating,' writes Perry. Perry came under fire ahead of the book's release for a series of excerpts apparently aimed at Keanu Reeves. One passage comes as the actor grappled with River Phoenix's death: 'River was a beautiful man, inside and out — too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?' After major backlash for these comments, Perry apologized, telling People, 'I'm actually a big fan of Keanu. I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.' Head to Amazon to buy Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir now in paperback or hardcover format.
