GLC Mumbai withdraws objection to use of its name in alumni podcast after governing council review
The Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai, has withdrawn its public notice dated July 31, 2025, which objected to the podcast GLC: Law and Lore using the institution's name. The withdrawal came after the matter was placed before the college's Governing Council, which expressed no objection to the continuation of the podcast. However, the principal has advised the team to add a disclaimer clarifying that the initiative is not officially affiliated with GLC. The students have, from the outset, maintained that they never claimed the podcast to be officially linked to the institute. Background The principal, Asmita Vaidya, had issued a notice to the student-creators of the podcast stating that the use of the name 'GLC' in the branding of the channel is unauthorised and misleading. The notice says, 'Government Law College, Mumbai, has no affiliation or association whatsoever with the platform 'GLC Law and Lore.' The institution has not endorsed, approved, or collaborated with this entity or its administrators. Any content published by 'GLC Law and Lore' does not reflect the views, policies, or official stance of Government Law College, Mumbai'. The notice had requested that those running the podcast stop using the term 'GLC' in the channel's name and branding. It had also requested students to refrain from suggesting any formal connection with the Government Law College, Mumbai. The students behind the podcast released a formal response stating that the initiative was always intended as a way of giving back to the college. They said that the podcast was started by four final-year students, now alumni, aimed at bridging the gap between current students and graduates of the institution. The statement said the podcast was independently funded, managed, and edited by the four students, with no institutional backing. The students said, 'At no point have we claimed GLC: Law and Lore is officially affiliated with Government Law College. Neither we nor our guests have said anything that could remotely harm the college's reputation. If anything, our entire effort has been to celebrate it.' While talking to The Hindu, Jinay Jain, one of the podcasters, said the college's official LinkedIn page had previously reshared posts from the podcast. The students also said they had reached out to the college administration initially, requesting formal collaboration, but due to no response, they started it as a student endeavour. The podcast features conversations with notable GLC alumni from various fields, including law, public service, and entertainment. The students noted that every guest had been informed that the podcast was not an official initiative. Alumni support Many notable alumni of the institute stood up to support the students. One of them, Justice G.S. Patel, an alumnus of GLC, who appeared on the podcast, in a letter to the Principal, wrote, 'GLC is not a trademark nor a service mark. It is the name of an institution, and when we, and our students, use it, the intent is only to convey a sense of belonging.' He questioned whether any episode had caused reputational harm and called the tone of the original notice unjustified and inconsiderate. He expressed concern over the threat of further appropriate action against students, saying, 'The threat of 'follow-up action' against students is contemptible and disgraceful. No head of an educational institution should go around threatening students with a lawsuit.'

A new era of Mercedes will begin the new GLC EV – here's all you need to know
Successor to EQC will go toe-to-toe with forthcoming BMW iX3 in Europe's most hotly contested segment Close Mercedes-Benz will launch a radical new GLC next year, an important new model for the German firm as it looks to gain a foothold in Europe's most hotly contested new car segment. Launching at the same time as the new BMW iX3, its key segment rival, the electric GLC not only marks Mercedes' next step in electrification but also will be the first car to embody the brand's bold new-era design language – something that will be adopted across the rest of the range in the coming years. It will be sold alongside the current, second-generation combustion-engined GLC, which was launched in 2022. That car has regularly been Mercedes' best-selling model since its introduction in 2015 and the firm hopes the new GLC EV – successor to the discontinued EQC SUV – can leverage the equity built by the GLC name and be a catalyst for Mercedes' EV sales. Going on sale in early 2026, the electric GLC – which we've already driven in prototype form – will become the first model to use the Mercedes-Benz Electric Architecture ( which will also form the basis of the upcoming electric C-Class, due at the end of 2026 or start of 2027. It supports an 800V electrical architecture and has an expected maximum charging speed beyond the 320kW of the new MMA-based CLA EQ – the longest-range and most efficient EV currently on sale. Mercedes officials have confirmed to Autocar that the electric GLC will draw electricity from a 94.5kWh battery, which will provide up to 435 miles of range in its most efficient form. While that is a significant amount of range for an SUV, matching today's class-leading Peugeot e-3008, it will be beaten by the new iX3, which is promised to offer 497 miles. The electric GLC will be sold with single- and dual-motor powertrains, offering up to 482bhp in dual-motor guise. An AMG performance flagship is due in 2027 and is tipped to offer up to 600bhp. In styling terms, the GLC will introduce Mercedes' new look. A key aspect of this is the new nose. Official pictures from the German firm show a reinvented grille design that fuses classic styling with bold lighting elements. This includes a chrome front perforated with 942 small holes. Behind the panel are more than 100 LEDs, which enable the grille to light up in a variety of customisable ways. The central star logo is also illuminated, although the extent to which it is will be dependent on local regulations. Mercedes boss Ola Källenius said the new design would ensure Mercedes could maintain its identity through its EVs 'in current times, with 100-plus Chinese firms' and others entering the market; and ensure it could carry 'the calling card of Mercedes, the unmistakable Mercedesness' into the future when new ICE cars finally go off sale from 2035. Like the smaller CLA, the GLC's overall design is of a progressive look. It draws heavily on Mercedes' Vision EQXX concept car in terms of aerodynamic performance and minimising the loads on the motors to maximise efficiency. For reference, the streamlined EQXX extracted 627 miles from a 100kWh battery pack last year. As a result, this approach will yield a futuristic-looking design, with a rakish bubble-like roofline. According to Mercedes design chief Gorden Wagener, the ambition is to give the new model 'a strong identity' in the 'sea of sameness' that he perceives among today's EVs. Much of the GLC's cockpit design remains under wraps, but the new CLA hints at what to expect. That car's dashboard is designed around the latest iteration of Mercedes' Superscreen, which spans the width of the dashboard with three digital displays – a 10.25in screen for driving information, a 14.6in infotainment screen in the middle and a 14in screen for the front passenger. Like its iX3 rival, the GLC will dispense with many physical buttons and instead use voice controls backed by artificial intelligence systems. New iX3 marks a fresh era for BMW
BMW is getting set to release the first of its Neue Klasse model, the iX3 SUV that will debut at the Munich motor show soon. This not only introduces a new design for the wider family but also fresh underpinnings. Its rival, the new-generation GLC, will also debut at Munich. Check out our review of the original iX3. The pair will go on sale shortly in a bid to increase EV sales in the face of tightening emissions regulations. BMW's iX3 will be followed shortly after by the launch of the new 3 Series saloon in 2026. The second-gen iX3 is based on the Neue Klasse Vision X concept. It will sell alongside the existing petrol X3 but rides on the fresh Neue Klasse architecture. Cue slimmer batteries, more efficient motors and technology that BMW claims will be a 'quantum leap forward' from today's electric offerings. The exact size of its NMC battery pack is not yet disclosed but it uses new cylindrical cells. BMW claims the iX3 will have range of almost 800km, not far off twice that of the original iX3. An 800V electrical architecture means the iX3 can hook up to ultra-fast chargers up to 400kW, enabling a 350km top-up in 10 minutes. There will be two initial variants available. One is a single-motor, rear-wheel drive model while a dual-motor, four-wheel drive version is good for up to 300kW. Inside is a new computing system that is an order of magnitude faster than existing chips in current BMWs. To keep aeros friendly and vehicle height low, the front seats are bolted directly to the battery pack. Styling borrows cues from the original Neue Klasse models of the 1960s. Small kidney grilles are the order of the day. The double-kidney grille separates a gloss black panel on the iX3's front end. This conceals the sensors and cameras required for the driver assistance systems. The rest of the car features a more chiselled look than today's models. There are angled lights front and rear, and a light bar at the back. The cabin features BMW's new iDrive X system. This features a large, sloped central infotainment screen. Above that is a head-up display spans the entire width of the dashboard. BMW eschews buttons, claiming the new set-up allows it to offer more complex and varied options. Toolbars and customisable widgets replace buttons on the touchscreen. Voice control is said to be more versatile too. Over the air updates are also possible. The steering wheel design now has four spokes but retains haptic buttons for functions like cruise control. The overriding concept was 'eyes on the road and hands on the wheel' so everything has to be simple to operate.

German EV showdown: Bold new Mercedes GLC and BMW iX3 to debut in September
The upcoming Mercedes GLC with EQ Technology (left) and new BMW iX3 both aim to make bold design statements. Image: Supplied There's a German electric SUV showdown looming, and it starts at the IAA Mobility Summit in early September when the new BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology will be revealed to the world for the first time. Not only will the two battery-powered midsize SUVs be direct competitors when they hit the market, but both will usher in new design and engineering eras for their respective carmakers. The Mercedes GLC electric debuts a brand new design language for the firm's electric vehicles, with the softer lines of its current EQ models having faced criticism for their lack of imagination and identity. To whet our appetites, Mercedes released a teaser image this week, showing the new upright, and more traditional-looking, 'grille' that will feature on its electric GLC. The GLC with EQ Technology replaces the EQC and features a more traditional look. Image: Supplied Video Player is loading. Next Stay Close ✕ As EVs do not require a grille for cooling, the GLC's centrepiece is purely aesthetic and features a chrome frame surrounding a smoked-glass-effect lattice structure and integrated contour lighting. An illuminated version will also be offered, featuring 942 backlit dots and animation sequences. The battery-powered GLC with EQ Technology replaces the EQC SUV, with Mercedes moving to a more integrated naming convention for its models. While it shares a name with its combustion-engined GLC sibling, the electric model will feature a completely different platform, in the form of Merc's upcoming MB-EA dedicated electric vehicle architecture. Technical details are still under wraps, but CarExpert reports that the new electric GLC is likely to offer a WLTP driving range of more than 800km, while the most powerful version could produce over 500kW. BMW EV revolution loading Either way, the GLC is going to face some stiff competition from its Bavarian rival, with BMW stating that the new iX3 will be one of the most significant model introductions in the company's entire history. Ushering in the 'Neue Klasse' family of vehicles, it claims to make huge strides in EV technology as well as sustainability and connectivity. The new BMW iX3 ushers in the 'Neue Klasse' architecture. Camouflaged model shown. Image: Supplied The architecture incorporates a completely new battery system and drivetrain, all geared towards maximum efficiency and reduced weight. BMW says the iX3 50 xDrive flagship will boast a WLTP range of up to 800km, and thanks to a 400kW maximum charging capability, owners will be able to add around 350km of range in just 10 minutes at a fast-charging station. Furthermore, its Gen6 powertrain technology and BMW Dynamic Performance Control software stack aim to raise the dynamic potential of electric powertrains to a new level. The iX3 also debuts the new BMW Panoramic iDrive cockpit interface, which displays all relevant driving information in the driver's ideal line of sight. 'With the all-new #BMW iX3, we bring our revolutionary technologies into series production for the first time, and we can hardly wait to see it in action on the road. All future BMW models, regardless of powertrain type, will benefit from the innovations and technology clusters of the Neue Klasse," says Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klass BMW. IOL Motoring

Government Law College demands removal of GLC from social media channel
Mumbai, Aug 5 (PTI) The Government Law College, Mumbai, has dissociated itself from the social media channel 'GLC Law and Lore' and demanded immediate removal of 'GLC' from its name through a public notice. 'GLC Law and Lore' is a podcast initiative aimed at bridging the gap between legal education and real-world practice by connecting students, alumni, faculty, and prospective students of GLC. GLC on Monday issued a formal public clarification and cautionary notice to its students. The initiative is launched on Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube, sharing content involving legal professionals, students, and alumni, and prominently carries the acronym 'GLC' in its branding, which is 'both unauthorised and misleading", the college administration said. 'While the content may be well-intentioned and may include individuals connected to the legal field, the use of the name 'GLC' (commonly associated with Government Law College, Mumbai) in the branding of this channel is unauthorised and misleading," it stated. The notice sought immediate removal of 'GLC" in the channel's name, branding, or any related communication, and to refrain from suggesting any formal connection with the Government Law College. The notice was issued to protect the name, reputation, and integrity of the college, it stated, adding that any continued misuse of the institution's name may compel the college to consider further appropriate action.
