Inside Gaza's Nasser Hospital - where there's virtually no food for malnourished children
In Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, they have virtually nothing left to eat. Warning: This article contains images that some readers may find distressing Huda has lost half her body weight since March, when Israel shut the crossings into Gaza, and imposed a blockade. The 12-year-old knows she doesn't look well. "Before, I used to look like this," Huda says, pointing to a picture on her tablet. "The war changed me. Malnutrition has turned my hair yellow because I lack protein. You see here, this is how I was before the war." Her mother says her needs are simple: fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, maybe a little meat - but she won't find it here. Huda can only wish for a brighter future now. "Can you help me travel abroad for treatment? I want to be like you. I'm a child. I want to play and be like you," she says. Image: Huda wishes for a brighter future Amir's story Three-year-old Amir was sitting in a tent together with his mother, father and his grandparents when it was hit by projectiles. Medical staff carried out surgery on his intestines and were able to stop the bleeding - but they can't feed him properly. Instead, he's given dextrose, a mixture of sugar and water which has no nutritional value. Image: Amir's mother and siblings were killed in an attack that also left his father 'in a terrible state' Image: Medical staff performed surgery on three-year-old Amir - but can't feed him properly Amir's mother and his siblings were all killed in the attack and his father is no longer able to speak. "His father is in a terrible state and won't accept the reality. What did these children do? Tell me, what was their crime?" Amir's aunt says. The desperate scenes of hungry children in Gaza have not been caused by scarcity. There's plenty of food waiting at the crossings or held in warehouses within the territory. Israel claims the United Nations is failing to distribute it. Image: Amir's relative holds pictures of the toddler and his family before the war Both Israel and the US have taken charge of the food distribution, with the UN's hundreds of aid centres shut. Instead, the UN tries to organise convoys but says it can't obtain the necessary permits - and faces draconian restrictions on aid. Sometimes food is made available at communal kitchens called 'tikiya'. 'I want life to be how it was' Everyone is desperate for whatever they can get - and many leave with nothing. "It's been two months since we've eaten bread," one young girl says. "There's no food, there's no nutrition. I want life to go back to how it was, I want meat and flour to come in. I want the end of the tikiya." Weighing just 6kg, Hasan should be 15kg at his age. "He needs special feeds, and these feeds are literally miles away. They're literally right there at the border, but it's being blockaded by the forces, they're not letting them in, so it's intentional and deliberate starvation," Dr Husain tells me. Follow The World Listen to The World with Richard Engel and Yalda Hakim every Wednesday Tap to follow Hasan died two days after Dr Husain examined him. "It's just so distressing that this is something man-made, this is a man-made starvation, this is a man-made crisis," he says. Israel says it has not identified starvation, but this feels like a situation that is entirely preventable.

Huda Defends Her ‘Love Island USA' Crash Out
The villain-to-fan-favorite pipeline really worked for Huda Mustafa, the Love Island USA season 7 contestant that everyone either loved, hated, or loved to hate. But even after a classic reality TV redemption arc landed her in the finale, she's still being plagued by questions about her time in the Villa, specifically about her mental health. In a new interview, Huda defended her Love Island USA crash out and reiterated that she took care of her mental health by visiting the psychologist on set. In case you didn't know, every Islander is assigned a psychologist to see throughout their time in the villa. According to Vogue, contestants are meant to meet with their psychologist every week for a check-in, but are also able to meet with a psychologist on-call if need be. And Huda took full advantage. 'I definitely went to the [show] psychologist when I needed it,' Huda told Us Weekly in an exclusive, post-finale interview. 'She sees me and understands me.' As to the crash out that was heard around the world, Huda insisted that it wasn't actually that big of a deal IRL. 'TV only shows a fraction of what's going on in the villa; I wasn't crashing out every two seconds! Everybody crashes out in their own rooms. Like, God forbid a girl does it on national television!' She continued, responding to fans who criticized her as 'crazy' because of the crash out. 'It's okay to have emotions. I handle any hate pretty well. You wanna say I'm crazy for crashing out? By all means. I know damn well your ass crashed out two years ago when Jacob broke up with your ass,' she said, seemingly referring to our collective fictional ex. This isn't the first time Huda has spoken about her visits to the Love Island USA psychologist. During an appearance on Call Her Daddy, Huda denied rumors that she was sent to the psychologist by producers. 'I would voluntarily go to psych on my own,' she said. 'I needed a woman to talk to. That's when I would go to psych. And when there was a time when I felt more emotional, I would go to psych.'

Inside Superdrug's brand new beauty playground in Glasgow – even Gen Alpha will love £2.50 buys
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HIGH street store Superdrug has launched a brand new concept in Glasgow - and skincare fans are going to love it. The cosmetic powerhouse has introduced a Beauty Playground to its Braehead store. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 New and viral brands are now in store 4 Superdrug bosses hope people will love seeing all the lines in person 4 There's a play table to test all the products Launched first in London's Westfield Stratford store earlier this month, it brings some of the most sought-after, viral and exciting up-and-coming brands that have previously only been available online, into the shop. And it means customers can smell, try and fall in love with some amazing lines, such as Dhelicious and Mallows Beauty. Even Gen Alpha beauty fans can pick up a bargain, with the Daise range starting from £2.50 for a pretty flower lip balm. As well as exploring must-have brands, shoppers will also be able to access beauty services, receive expert advice and create content while they shop. We spoke to Simon Comins, Superdrug's Chief Operating Officer, at last night's launch in the Glasgow store. He said there will be more testers in Beauty Playground than anywhere else, so customers can really play with the products. And he added: " The whole idea of Beauty Playground is that we're trying to create, in this aisle, a combination of new brands and brands that we have in the store that are cosmetics and that skincare customers buy, but if they don't go down the oral care aisle, they might not find, like High Smile. "So we have High Smile in here, Starface, we put a serum stand in. It's just to bring that whole beauty immersion together." One of the most fun new additions to the store is the 'Try Me Table' where customers can play, test and experiment with the latest products. And they have included social stations, complete with ring lights and smartphone attachments, for the creation of high-quality beauty content. Make-up fans race to snap up £5 Superdrug dupe of viral Huda powder, and save themselves £30 in the process Simon said: "We have a 40 per cent market share on make-up. The amount of people that come in, sit down and understand the product. They want to test the foundation. They want to test their lipstick shade. And we've never had a facility like it. "We've opened one up in the Stratford store and it's one of the busiest areas because people are just engaging so much with it." To launch Beauty Playground, Superdrug is partnering with a string of innovative new and exclusive brands, including the Korean inspired and TikTok famous Smuuti. Simon said: 'The beauty shopper is crying out for immersive beauty experiences, but often they find that what they encounter is either temporary or not keeping pace with the latest innovations the industry has to offer. "With Beauty Playground, we're reimagining what a joyful and innovative beauty experience could and should be, whilst offering a space where customers can discover, learn, experiment, create, and connect with brands and services that meet their unique needs. "But most of all, at Superdrug we believe beauty should be fun, so we can't wait to welcome customers to their nearest Beauty Playground store, where they can experience and enjoy Superdrug like never before.'

Artist Hazem Harb's 10-year-old niece killed by Israeli airstrike in Gaza: 'I lost my trust in humanity'
On July 17 – his birthday – Hazem Harb received news that his family in Gaza had been hit by an Israeli strike. His niece Lara, 10, suffered injuries that would claim her life two days later. His sister, Huda, remains in critical condition. The Palestinian artist, known for confronting loss through his work, now finds himself mourning the ineffable. 'I am the one who named Lara,' Harb, who lives in Dubai, says. 'When she was born, my sister Huda asked me to name her. I am close to my sister and I had a profound connection to Lara. She was an incredibly smart and beautiful child. She was the first in her class. I could write a book about her.' Huda and her children were returning from a visit to their sister's house on Thursday when the airstrikes hit. The visit was meant to be a small relief – a respite from the monotony and fear brought on by Israel's war on Gaza. 'The children were getting restless. Like many children in Gaza right now, they have no toys or anything to distract them. They are home most of the time so, naturally, they get restless and bored,' Harb says. 'Lara asked my sister to get them. Huda took them to my older sister's house.' While Lara's two sisters and brother survived the airstrike with minimal injuries, her head was struck by shrapnel. 'She remained under intensive care for nearly two nights,' Harb says. 'We didn't have much hope. She was breathing, but she was unconscious. We received news on Saturday that she was martyred.' Huda, meanwhile, suffered significant injuries to her stomach and head. 'Huda is now in intensive care. We moved her to a house because there is no proper hospital or infrastructure to care for her. She can't process anything right now. Her injuries are extremely dangerous, and she can't yet process that she lost her daughter. 'There are no words left to describe the horror we are living and the loss my family and I have endured,' Harb adds. 'Lara was the entire world to her parents and to our family. She is one of tens of thousand of children slaughtered by this monstrous state. Each of them, the entire world to their families, and each of them mattered.' This tragedy, he points out, is one of innumerable ones ripping families apart in Gaza. Their deaths are not tragic mistakes, but the result of systematic brutality by Israel. At least 59,029 Palestinians have been killed and 142,135 wounded since October 2023. According to a May report by Unicef, more than 50,000 children were either killed or injured in the Palestinian enclave. 'Everyone is starving to death, literally,' Harb says. 'Feelings have almost no meaning. Sadness, loss and grief are almost secondary because you are dying from the inside. You are dying from hunger, so all feelings are mixing incomprehensibly together. 'I lost my trust in humanity,' he adds. 'How can this happen? How can this happen in today's world? We aren't learning from history. We are seeing these horrors on our screens. I have no hope, no trust in humanity.' Tabari Artspace, the Dubai gallery that represents the artist, issued a statement in response to the tragedy. 'This devastating loss is a painful reminder of the reality thousands face daily in Gaza,' the gallery posted on Instagram. 'Children and innocent people continue to die – from bombs, from starvation, from systemic violence. These are not just headlines. These are lives. This demands our attention, our outrage and our compassion. No forgiveness.'
