Inside Superdrug's brand new beauty playground in Glasgow – even Gen Alpha will love £2.50 buys
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HIGH street store Superdrug has launched a brand new concept in Glasgow - and skincare fans are going to love it. The cosmetic powerhouse has introduced a Beauty Playground to its Braehead store. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 New and viral brands are now in store 4 Superdrug bosses hope people will love seeing all the lines in person 4 There's a play table to test all the products Launched first in London's Westfield Stratford store earlier this month, it brings some of the most sought-after, viral and exciting up-and-coming brands that have previously only been available online, into the shop. And it means customers can smell, try and fall in love with some amazing lines, such as Dhelicious and Mallows Beauty. Even Gen Alpha beauty fans can pick up a bargain, with the Daise range starting from £2.50 for a pretty flower lip balm. As well as exploring must-have brands, shoppers will also be able to access beauty services, receive expert advice and create content while they shop. We spoke to Simon Comins, Superdrug's Chief Operating Officer, at last night's launch in the Glasgow store. He said there will be more testers in Beauty Playground than anywhere else, so customers can really play with the products. And he added: " The whole idea of Beauty Playground is that we're trying to create, in this aisle, a combination of new brands and brands that we have in the store that are cosmetics and that skincare customers buy, but if they don't go down the oral care aisle, they might not find, like High Smile. "So we have High Smile in here, Starface, we put a serum stand in. It's just to bring that whole beauty immersion together." One of the most fun new additions to the store is the 'Try Me Table' where customers can play, test and experiment with the latest products. And they have included social stations, complete with ring lights and smartphone attachments, for the creation of high-quality beauty content. Make-up fans race to snap up £5 Superdrug dupe of viral Huda powder, and save themselves £30 in the process Simon said: "We have a 40 per cent market share on make-up. The amount of people that come in, sit down and understand the product. They want to test the foundation. They want to test their lipstick shade. And we've never had a facility like it. "We've opened one up in the Stratford store and it's one of the busiest areas because people are just engaging so much with it." To launch Beauty Playground, Superdrug is partnering with a string of innovative new and exclusive brands, including the Korean inspired and TikTok famous Smuuti. Simon said: 'The beauty shopper is crying out for immersive beauty experiences, but often they find that what they encounter is either temporary or not keeping pace with the latest innovations the industry has to offer. "With Beauty Playground, we're reimagining what a joyful and innovative beauty experience could and should be, whilst offering a space where customers can discover, learn, experiment, create, and connect with brands and services that meet their unique needs. "But most of all, at Superdrug we believe beauty should be fun, so we can't wait to welcome customers to their nearest Beauty Playground store, where they can experience and enjoy Superdrug like never before.'

Artist Hazem Harb's 10-year-old niece killed by Israeli airstrike in Gaza: 'I lost my trust in humanity'
On July 17 – his birthday – Hazem Harb received news that his family in Gaza had been hit by an Israeli strike. His niece Lara, 10, suffered injuries that would claim her life two days later. His sister, Huda, remains in critical condition. The Palestinian artist, known for confronting loss through his work, now finds himself mourning the ineffable. 'I am the one who named Lara,' Harb, who lives in Dubai, says. 'When she was born, my sister Huda asked me to name her. I am close to my sister and I had a profound connection to Lara. She was an incredibly smart and beautiful child. She was the first in her class. I could write a book about her.' Huda and her children were returning from a visit to their sister's house on Thursday when the airstrikes hit. The visit was meant to be a small relief – a respite from the monotony and fear brought on by Israel's war on Gaza. 'The children were getting restless. Like many children in Gaza right now, they have no toys or anything to distract them. They are home most of the time so, naturally, they get restless and bored,' Harb says. 'Lara asked my sister to get them. Huda took them to my older sister's house.' While Lara's two sisters and brother survived the airstrike with minimal injuries, her head was struck by shrapnel. 'She remained under intensive care for nearly two nights,' Harb says. 'We didn't have much hope. She was breathing, but she was unconscious. We received news on Saturday that she was martyred.' Huda, meanwhile, suffered significant injuries to her stomach and head. 'Huda is now in intensive care. We moved her to a house because there is no proper hospital or infrastructure to care for her. She can't process anything right now. Her injuries are extremely dangerous, and she can't yet process that she lost her daughter. 'There are no words left to describe the horror we are living and the loss my family and I have endured,' Harb adds. 'Lara was the entire world to her parents and to our family. She is one of tens of thousand of children slaughtered by this monstrous state. Each of them, the entire world to their families, and each of them mattered.' This tragedy, he points out, is one of innumerable ones ripping families apart in Gaza. Their deaths are not tragic mistakes, but the result of systematic brutality by Israel. At least 59,029 Palestinians have been killed and 142,135 wounded since October 2023. According to a May report by Unicef, more than 50,000 children were either killed or injured in the Palestinian enclave. 'Everyone is starving to death, literally,' Harb says. 'Feelings have almost no meaning. Sadness, loss and grief are almost secondary because you are dying from the inside. You are dying from hunger, so all feelings are mixing incomprehensibly together. 'I lost my trust in humanity,' he adds. 'How can this happen? How can this happen in today's world? We aren't learning from history. We are seeing these horrors on our screens. I have no hope, no trust in humanity.' Tabari Artspace, the Dubai gallery that represents the artist, issued a statement in response to the tragedy. 'This devastating loss is a painful reminder of the reality thousands face daily in Gaza,' the gallery posted on Instagram. 'Children and innocent people continue to die – from bombs, from starvation, from systemic violence. These are not just headlines. These are lives. This demands our attention, our outrage and our compassion. No forgiveness.'

‘Love Island USA's Chelley and Huda Send Message to Fans Amid Feud
If you watched the reality TV gold that was Love Island USA season 7, then you know that Chelley Bissainthe and Huda Mustafa didn't always get along in the Villa. Now that they've left Fiji, it appears that Chelley and Huda have unfollowed each other on Instagram amid severe harassment from fans, prompting them both to release statements condemning bullying and hate. Need more info? Here's everything we know about what's going on with Chelley and Huda after Love Island USA. Huda and Chelley had a major falling out in the Villa after Huda danced on Ace Greene during the Heart Rate challenge, and things only got more tense after the Standing on Business challenge, when Chelley questioned Huda's behavior with both Ace and Chris Seeley. Fans of both women immediately went to war on social media, and despite the fact that Chelley and Huda have unfollowed each other on Instagram (Olandria Carthen also reportedly unfollowed Huda), they're asking fans to stop spreading any hate in their names. Speaking to Blavity in a post-show interview, Huda specifically defended Chelley and Olandria, who have been getting a lot of unwarranted hate as Black women on television often do. 'I still love Olandria. If I'm not hating her, I don't think anyone should be,' she said, adding that while 'everyone is entitled to their own opinion,' there is a line that is to to be crossed. 'I don't condone hate. I don't condone bullying. I don't condone any of that,' she continued. 'I think people's safeties are at risk. And the last thing I want is for anyone to feel unsafe or to feel like they're getting some sort of backlash at my expense. I think that's ridiculous.' And while she admitted that she and Chelley weren't close, that doesn't mean she wants her fans to attack. 'I do wish her the best and I do care for her as a person,' she said. Meanwhile, in an Instagram statement thanking fans, Chelley alluded to the racist hate she's received throughout the season. 'To the people who used their platforms not just to recap a show but to speak truthfully about the deeper realities Black women face, your words meant everything,' she wrote in part. 'You reminded the world that we are layered, emotional, complex, worthy and real. Thank you for holding the line of truth with me and for me in times where hate seemed stronger than usual.' She then echoed Huda's calls for fans to stop harassing others, writing, 'I just ask one favor... that my supporters turned family continue to spread love and not hate. Keep lifting each other up. Keep choosing compassion. That's how we change the world.' Chelley and Huda might not be friends, but they're clearly not enemies. Hopefully fans will get a clearer answer on where they stand when the Love Island USA season 7 reunion airs August 25.

Why Love Island USA 's Chris Didn't Carry Huda Out of Final Date
Originally appeared on E! Online Chris Seeley wanted to let Huda Mustafa down easy—literally. One of the more talked about moments from season seven of Love Island USA was when, following the pair's breakup, Chris refused to carry Huda back through the water around their floating dinner table. Now, the basketball player is sharing insight into his decision. 'We established that we were going to be friends,' Chris explained to E! News in an exclusive interview, 'and I feel like that type of treatment is princess treatment that I would do for like my girl or somebody I would get to know.' Still, he did try to lend an arm. 'I am a gentleman, so I still wanted to put my hand down, like, 'I'll help you,'' he explained. ''I'll walk you down if I need to, but I'm not going to carry you because we're not on that level anymore.' So I just didn't think it was right for me to do that. That's just how I roll.' Chris also had a response to those who criticized him for the move, which left Huda to remove her heels and wade through the ankle-deep water. More from E! Online Chris Martin Jokes Concertgoers May Be "Having an Affair" After They Hide From Camera Ghost Adventures' Zak Bagans Was "Very Affected" by Annabelle Doll Before Dan Rivera's Death Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas Make a Splash With Getaway on Island of Menorca 'I feel like they all are princesses and want that treatment no matter what,' he said of his naysayers. 'Maybe it's because I'm big as hell, and I probably should have just did it because of that. But I feel like mature people really understand why.' The 27-year-old also addressed the breakup conversation itself, which some fans felt seemed like he was leading Huda towards being the one to call it quits. 'I didn't really want her to be the one to end things,' he emphasized. 'I just gave her the opportunity because I told her I still wanted to test the connection outside the villa, and she was kind of anxious about the long-distance thing, and us being able to test certain things in our connection. And that ended up being the result of why she chose to be friends.' And the reason Chris responded in the way he did was he could tell what she 'was getting at,' but that it took Huda, 24, almost 15 minutes to answer when he asked what she wanted to do. 'My intention going into that day and that conversation was to not end things at all,' he continued. 'I wanted to keep things going, just figure it out.' But while the pair ended their coupling before the finale ceremony—a first for the franchise—Chris was quick to assure that there are no hard feelings. 'Me and Huda are friends,' he said. 'We're all staying in an Airbnb right now, me, her and the other finalists, and I feel like us being able to not be forced to do anything and being able to chill and vibe out—we're developing a good friendship.'
