1 2 Keonjhar: The Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Barbil has been awarded the title of top performing ITI in the eastern zone. The accolade was presented during the 10th anniversary celebration of the Skill India Mission, "Bharat SkillNxt", at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on July 22, a press release said. Jayant Chaudhary, minister of skill development & entrepreneurship, presented the award to Samarth Verma, director of DTET, and Abhiram Roul, in-charge principal of ITI Barbil. The award recognises the institute's outstanding contribution to skill development and its role in empowering India's workforce.

Big business backs skilling push: Reliance, Adani, Mahindra among firms eye ITI upgrade, Rs 60,000 crore plan gains momentum

These partnerships will help set up 'hub and spoke ITIs' to offer industry-aligned skills training, ET reported citing people aware of the matter. Under the hub-and-spoke model, designated ITIs will serve as central hubs for training and resources, while connected vocational institutes (spokes) will access advanced infrastructure and faculty support from the hub. Besides the eight companies that have already submitted proposals, discussions are underway with Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Auto, and the Aditya Birla Group, as well as major public sector units like Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, according to ET. The scheme, cleared by the Union Cabinet in May, aims to upgrade 1,000 ITIs and train two million youth over five years, focusing on sectors aligned with future industry demands. Funding for the initiative includes Rs 30,000 crore from the Centre, Rs 20,000 crore from states, and Rs 10,000 crore from industry. The central government's share will be co-financed 50:50 by the and the Asian Development Bank. Mahindra Group has shortlisted Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Goa, proposing training in automotive and hospitality. Reliance Group has pitched for work in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh, covering sectors like renewables, retail, advanced manufacturing, and petrochemical engineering. Jindal Group plans to impart training in both traditional and new-age trades in Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand. Toyota India has proposed to upgrade ITIs in Karnataka for automobile-related trades, while Adani Group aims to upgrade institutes across Gujarat, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and the Northeast for training in areas such as solar power, drones, and port operations.

Eight corporates — Reliance Group, Adani Group, Mahindra Group, JK Cement, Jindal Group, Toyota India, Schneider Electric, and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel — have already submitted their preferred states and sectors to the ministry, outlining plans to establish 'hub and spoke" ITIs to enhance skills training, the report said. 'Besides these, discussions are also underway with Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Auto, Aditya Birla Group, and several major public sector enterprises including Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) to take part in the ITI upgradation effort," a source told ET on condition of anonymity. Approved by the Union Cabinet in May, the scheme aims to modernise 1,000 ITIs and train 2 million youth over the next five years. The hub-and-spoke model will allow central ITIs (hubs) to share resources with connected vocational institutes. The financing structure includes Rs 30,000 crore from the Centre, Rs 20,000 crore from states, and ₹10,000 crore from the industry. Half of the central share is expected to be co-financed equally by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank. According to an internal ministry presentation reviewed by ET, JK Cement has proposed to operate in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, with a focus on training in construction, electronics, renewable energy, and hospitality. Mahindra Group is keen on ITI upgrades in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Goa, focused on the automotive and hospitality sectors. Reliance Group has shortlisted Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh for training in renewables, retail, advanced manufacturing, and petrochemical engineering. Jindal Group plans to offer skills in both traditional and new-age trades in clusters across Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand. Under the hub and spoke model, the ITIs designated as hubs will serve as central points for training and resource sharing, while the vocational training institutes acting as spokes will connect to the hub for accessing specialised resources. The scheme, approved by the Union cabinet in May, envisages upgradation of 1,000 ITIs and aims to impart skills training to two million youths over a five-year period with targeted courses that address the human capital needs of industries. The Centre will contribute ₹30,000 crore under the scheme, which was announced in the budget for 2024-25, while states will put in ₹20,000 crore and industry ₹10,000 crore, with co-financing to the extent of 50% of central share equally by the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank. Central team assesses damages in Himachal Pradesh's Thunag; DC says Rs 394cr lost
Kullu/Mandi: A central govt team visited the affected areas of Thunag sub-division in Mandi district on Sunday to assess the damage caused by floods and landslides, and was informed that the area suffered Rs 394 crore in damages. Led by G Parthasarathi, joint secretary, ministry of home affairs, the six-member team inspected the damage to houses and other properties in Bagsiad and the nearby village of Sharan. The team also inspected the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and other damaged structures in the area. During a meeting with the visiting team, Mandi deputy commissioner Apoorv Devgan put losses suffered in the district at Rs 708 crore. Devgan said Karsog suffered a loss of Rs 55 crore and Dharampur of Rs 47 crore. At Fanyaar village, the team reviewed the destruction caused by a landslide and gathered information about the damage to a drinking water supply scheme on Chhadi Khad in Dhangudhar. Later, the team visited Thunag market and assessed the damage to homes, shops, and various institutions, as well as the impact of the severe flooding on the local economy. In Deji village, which was among the worst-hit areas, the team examined a road washed away by the flood and the damage to other public infrastructure. Devgan briefed the central team on the widespread damage in the region and also shared information about the ongoing restoration efforts. Local MLA and leader of the opposition Jairam Thakur also accompanied the central team and shared information about the disaster-related losses in the area. Special secretary (revenue and disaster management) D C Rana apprised the team of the relief and rehabilitation works being carried out by the state govt in the disaster-affected areas. Chairing the meeting, Kandarp V Patel, deputy secretary, ministry of finance, expressed sympathy with the people and said after receiving the final damage reports, the team will prepare a comprehensive report to be presented to the National Executive Committee on Disaster Management. Based on its recommendations, the final report will be submitted to the high-level committee chaired by the Union home minister. He urged all concerned departments to submit their damage assessment reports in line with the prescribed norms. At present, 393 people are still living in 15 camps, added the DC. 93 roads remain blocked After 19 days of the disaster that struck Mandi on July 1, 93 roads remain blocked in the district, with the highest 67 in the Seraj region. A total of 20 transformers are also non-functional, with 19 in Gohar sub-division of the district. Forty water supply schemes, 22 alone in Thunag sub-division, are still to be repaired.
