Porsche Fanatic Jerry Seinfeld is Also A Huge Fan Of This Familiar Brand
Apart from the legendary 90s sitcom that bears his last name or his appearance in the 2007 cult classic 'Bee Movie,' you probably know comedian Jerry Seinfeld as a bona fide car enthusiast. While other funny men like Tim Allen or Jay Leno build their car collections with an eclectic variety of different types of cars from different eras and brands, Seinfeld stands out with his hyperfixation toward one particular German automaker: Porsche. While not-so-subtle hints about his Porsche fixation may be found within the decorative artwork in Jerry's apartment in his namesake sitcom, his real-life collection shows that his tastes are more varied than they might appear. While he has amassed a large collection of Porsche vehicles that includes multiple iterations and different versions of the Stuttgart powerhouse's 911 sports car, his stable also includes some gems like the exact Porsche 917K that was previously owned and driven by Steve McQueen in the 1971 movie Le Mans. In January 2025, Seinfeld attempted to sell the King of Cool's purpose-built race car at the Mecum Auctions in Kissimmee, Florida, where it failed to sell even after a $25 million bid was placed on the star-studded race car. However, on a March 5 episode of Spike Feresten's "Spike's Car Radio" podcast, Seinfeld noted that he sold the car to "party he will not name" after the auction for an undisclosed amount "in the neighborhood" of $25 million. Despite his high profile and high-dollar Porsche obsession, the comedian, worth a Forbes-estimated $1.1 billion, recently revealed that he also has a penchant for a much, much less exclusive brand for reasons that seem linked to his Porsche obsession. In a recent appearance on The Smoking Tire podcast, Seinfeld revealed that he's been the proud owner of a few Subarus throughout his career. Although Subaru commercials say that love is what makes a Subaru, a Subaru, it isn't fair to conclude that the comedian's daily driver is some sort of run-of-the-mill Forester, Crosstrek, or Outback. In fact, Seinfeld's Subies are much hotter, rarer, high-performance versions of the Impreza, specifically the WRX STI Type RA and an S209, which he says he drives for pleasure. "I have a Subaru S209. Do you know what that is?" the Bee Movie star asked TST podcast host Matt Farah, to his surprise. "What a great car. [...] I love Subarus." Farah and his co-host, Zack Klapman, dug deeper into his Subaru ownership history, which began with the acquisition of a 2018 WRX STI Type RA, a special edition limited to just 500 units in the U.S. and 75 units in Canada to celebrate a successful Nürburgring lap record attempt. According to Subaru, these STIs received special upgrades, including a carbon fiber roof, rear wing signature gold wheels, special pistons, a retuned ECU, an upgraded exhaust, and pistons. Seinfeld recalls that his other Subaru, the S209, "is better" than the Type RA, so much so that he bought it back after regrettably selling it the week before the podcast episode was recorded, adding that he is "now totally in love with it." And there is a good reason why. Like the WRX STI Type RA, the STI S209 is a limited-edition, 'hard-core' version of the WRX STI that was sold exclusively in the United States for the 2019 model year. Like the Type RA, it featured cosmetic upgrades like a carbon fiber roof and wing, as well as a host of engine upgrades, including a bigger turbo, upgraded exhaust, and an ECU that contribute to 341 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque. As one might expect, Seinfeld's love for his "special Subarus" stems from their flat-layout engines, a natural connection between the Japanese manufacturer and Porsche, as both are the only automakers that still use Boxer engines. He also lamented that his Subaru's driving characteristics have something "missing" in modern cars. "When I started with cars, the way companies express their national character through these machines was so entertaining," Seinfeld said. "And [these] precious few left that do it, and I think Subaru is one; they express their national character, and the Japanese automotive character is fantastic. They have a great automotive passion, and I love what they do."

Read the full story on Modern Car Collector Muscle car fans will have a chance to bid on two stunning Chevrolet Novas this weekend as Mecum Auctions brings a high-powered duo of bowtie classics to the block on Saturday, April 5, during its 2025 Houston event. Leading the pair is a meticulously restored 1967 Chevy II Nova Custom, finished in eye-catching Marina Blue with a tan hand-crafted interior. Under the hood lies a Magnuson-supercharged 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 paired to a 4L65E automatic transmission with a B&M bump shifter, generating substantial street and strip performance. Additional highlights include Snow Performance water-methanol injection, a ChassisWorks powder-coated frame, Mustang II front suspension with coilovers, rear air shocks, Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes, and Boyd Coddington wheels. The cabin houses modern touches like Auto Meter gauges, a Pyle double-DIN multimedia unit, and a full Alpine sound system with dual 12-inch subwoofers. Built for performance and show appeal, this Nova has been stripped of its heater and A/C systems, and even has capped wipers—underlining its purpose-built nature as a true pro-touring cruiser. Joining it on the auction floor is a tastefully customized 1963 Chevrolet Nova Convertible, featuring a 6.0-liter V-8 and 4L60 automatic transmission. This drop-top combines vintage flair with modern refinement, including a leather interior, air conditioning, power windows, and a tilt steering column. Its mechanicals are equally impressive, with a Heidts front end, rack and pinion steering, 4-link rear suspension, and a 9-inch Ford rear end. Like its coupe counterpart, it rides on Boyd Coddington wheels and is brought to a stop by Wilwood disc brakes at all four corners. With contrasting personalities—one a hard-edged restomod, the other a refined cruiser—both Novas reflect the enduring appeal of Chevrolet's compact muscle car platform, and both will cross the Mecum Houston block with high expectations from bidders. 10 Facts About the Legendary Plymouth ‘Cuda
Read the full story on Modern Car Collector The Plymouth 'Cuda is one of the most revered American muscle cars of all time, known for its aggressive looks, monstrous power, and track-ready performance. While it shares roots with the Barracuda, the 'Cuda is its own beast. Here are 10 facts you might not know about this Mopar legend. 1. Not Just a Barracuda Many assume "'Cuda" is just shorthand for Barracuda, but it's actually a distinct high-performance model introduced in 1969, featuring more aggressive styling and bigger engines. 2. Decoding the VIN Want to verify an authentic 'Cuda? Check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)—Barracudas start with "BH", while true 'Cuda models use "BS", with the "S" standing for "Special." 3. Multi-Million Dollar Muscle The most expensive Plymouth 'Cuda ever sold was a 1971 convertible, one of only two with a four-speed transmission. It fetched a staggering $3.5 million at Mecum Auctions in 2014. 4. Kevin Hart's 'Cuda Connection Comedian Kevin Hart owned a custom-built 1970 'Cuda named 'Menace,' which suffered a devastating crash in 2019. Built by SpeedKore Performance, the car was known for its carbon-fiber body and modern upgrades. 5. The 'Hemicuda' Badge Stands Out Unlike other Mopars that displayed engine size on the hood, the 426 HEMI 'Cuda simply wore a lowercase 'hemicuda' badge, making it one of the most understated muscle cars of its time. 6. Mopar's High-Impact Colors Plymouth offered 25 colors for the 1970 'Cuda, including five "High-Impact" options: Tor-Red, Lemon Twist, Vitamin C, Lime Light, and In Violet Metallic. These bright hues defined the golden era of muscle cars. 7. A B-Body at Heart Although the 'Cuda was built on Chrysler's E-body platform, it borrowed the B-body front subframe to fit larger engines, like the 426 HEMI and 440 Six-Pack. This made it powerful but also nose-heavy. 8. The 'Strobe Stripe' Mystery The 1970 AAR 'Cuda featured a distinctive broken-line stripe on both sides. While many recognize the design, few know its official name—the "strobe stripe." 9. Fake Fender Vents? The 1971 'Cuda featured dramatic fender gills, a unique styling element. However, they were non-functional, making it the only model year to have purely decorative vents. 10. The Hidden Reason for the Rear Antenna The AAR 'Cuda had a fiberglass hood, which caused radio interference. To solve this, engineers relocated the antenna to the rear, making it one of the few muscle cars with this feature. With its raw power, bold styling, and deep Mopar history, the Plymouth 'Cuda remains an undisputed icon of American muscle car culture. Whether you're a longtime enthusiast or new to the 'Cuda legacy, these unique details make the car even more legendary. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter

Have You Ever Heard of the Excalibur RS Roadster?
Read the full story on Modern Car Collector A unique automotive treasure, the 1962 Excalibur RS Roadster, inspired by legendary American designer Brooks Stevens, will cross the auction block at Mecum Auctions for the first time on May 16, providing a rare chance for collectors to own this one-of-a-kind creation. Originally envisioned by Stevens, renowned for designing iconic vehicles like the Jeep Wagoneer and the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, the Excalibur RS Roadster project started in the early 1990s. It was completed after Stevens' death in 1995 under the careful supervision of his close friend, Robert Shaw, whose initials "RS" mark the car's designation. Unlike any other Excalibur, the RS Roadster is built upon a specially developed tubular steel spaceframe chassis crafted by specialist Chuck Rahn. Its sleek, handcrafted aluminum bodywork was influenced by Stevens' earlier Excalibur Hawk Coupe from 1961, but with distinctive modern touches. These include Lamborghini Murcielago-inspired scissor doors, power-operated hood and decklid, and a low-profile polycarbonate windshield. Finished in striking Mercedes-Benz Mystic Blue metallic paint, accented with Stevens' signature red, white, and blue theme, the Excalibur RS Roadster blends classic automotive artistry with contemporary innovation. Inside, occupants are greeted with engine-turned aluminum panels, fiberglass moldings trimmed in premium leather, and fixed bucket seats, capturing the spirit of 1960s automotive luxury infused with modern comfort. Under the hood resides a robust 5.7-liter GM V8 crate engine enhanced by Edelbrock fuel injection and custom tubular exhaust headers. A GM 700R4 automatic transmission delivers power smoothly to the rear wheels. Performance upgrades include Wilwood disc brakes, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, and a Halibrand quick-change rear axle, making this bespoke vehicle as capable on the road as it is stunning to behold. The Excalibur RS Roadster is expected to attract significant interest from collectors, reflecting both its unique design pedigree and its status as the final automotive project associated with Brooks Stevens.
