Connor Zilisch Shares Surgery Update Following Scary Fall After Xfinity Series Win

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Connor Zilisch posted an update on social media after undergoing surgery for his broken collarbone. The 19-year-old driver fell off his car while celebrating his race win at Watkins Glen International. Zilisch's fall made headlines during the recent race weekend, given the intensity with which he fell head first. While a head injury was ruled out, Zilisch's broken collarbone needed to be fixed soon for him to be race-ready for the Wawa 250 at the Daytona International Speedway on August 22. Newsweek Sports reported Zilisch's comments following his fall, where he admitted that he might need surgery for a faster recovery. He said: "I think it might be something that I might have to get surgery for. But in this case, I think surgery is something that speeds up the process, so you can get plates and screws and get it reconstructed back together. More"Shane [van Gisbergen] talked about it — he had an injury in 2021 and broke his collarbone — he had plates, screws, everything done and he was racing back the next weekend. Thankfully, the collarbone is a relatively quick bone to fix and heal." But I've got a little motivation from Shane [van Gisbergen], my teammate, he had a plate put in and raced the weekend after. So, I don't know if I'll be that quick but hopefully my young bones will heal fast, and I'll be able to get back in it as soon as possible." Now, the 2025 Xfinity Series standings leader has confirmed that he underwent surgery on his collarbone. He posted on X: "Wanted to give everyone a quick update. Had surgery on my collarbone this morning to get a plate and screws to help with the healing process. Been a tough few days for me mentally, but all the love you guys have shown has certainly helped. Thank you." Wanted to give everyone a quick update. Had surgery on my collarbone this morning to get a plate and screws to help with the healing process. Thank you❤️ — Connor Zilisch (@ConnorZilisch) August 12, 2025 As a result of the injury, Zilisch was unable to race the following day in the Cup Series with Trackhouse Racing. On the topic of Zilisch's racing return, Trackhouse's team owner Justin Marks opened up. He said: "I think it's a discussion that we all have to have. We haven't really talked about much, obviously, since yesterday, but in the little bit that we've discussed in some of the quiet moments over the last 24 hours, it's going to have to be a group decision. "It's going to have to be sponsors, Chevrolet, the team, taking care of his development, taking care of him as a human and as an athlete, and then keeping his motivations high and making sure he knows he's got a group of people behind him that are supportive of him."

Insider Names Picks for Cadillac's American F1 Driver

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Formula 1 insider James Hinchcliffe threw out some American drivers who Cadillac F1 should consider for their lineup. Hinchcliffe is a commentator for F1 TV and IndyCar, making him connected in both the American motorsport world and F1. He drove for 11 years in IndyCar, winning six races and capturing 18 podiums in his career. In an article on Hinchcliffe selected some potential United States talents who could break through on the grid and deliver where Sargeant failed to. People attend an event to unveil the colors for the 2026 Cadillac debut in Formula One racing, ahead of the 2025 Miami Formula One Grand Prix, in Miami Beach, Florida, on May 3, 2025. Photo byCadillac is the first new F1 team since Haas debuted years ago. Their arrival opens up two new seats on the grid for drivers to get additional opportunities, and considering the team's North American roots, some believe an American driver could be given a chance. The last American driver was Logan Sargeant, who raced for Williams over a season and a half before getting replaced mid-season by Franco Colapinto. Overall, Sargeant underperformed compared to his junior racing career track record, but with other talents racing all around the world, many believe other Americans can establish themselves on the grid. Kyle Ki rkwood Racing for Andretti in IndyCar, Kirkwood already has the needed connections to land a seat with Cadillac. Andretti Global is part of the Cadillac F1 venture, with both racing institutions joining forces in an all-American bid. At the age of 26, Kirkwood is driving at an elite level, winning three races and sitting fifth in the standings. He has surpassed teammate Colton Herta as the lead driver at the team, and his results could lead to a chance in F1. Jak Cra wford Already in the formula racing ladder, Crawford is around the F1 paddock more than anyone else on this list. He has three seasons at the F2 level. In his third season, he is currently in fourth place with three wins so far. There are reports already connecting the American to the Cadillac team. "And let's call a spade a spade, he was just 18-years-old in his first campaign, and F2 is an ultra competitive series. Now at 20, with a bit more racing maturity and some experience behind him, it's starting to come to him," the former IndyCar driver wrote. "If he can continue the winning ways and find himself in the top three at season's end, that would put him in a great position to be considered for the ultimate promotion." Connor Zilisch Competing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Zilisch is one of the most promising talents in America. He is on the verge of securing a full-time Cup Series race seat, though he has previously competed in Formula 4 and stated his interest in potentially joining F2 to prove himself before getting a shot at the top. At the age of 19, the American has plenty of time to hone his driving skills and develop in the early stages of his career. Alex Palou and Scott McLaughlin Hinchcliffe also added IndyCar drivers Scott McLaughlin and Alex Palou to the list. However, neither was born in America - McLaughlin is from New Zealand and became an American citizen through the naturalization process. Both McLaughlin and Palou are great drivers who could drive in F1, though some might not call them American drivers since they were not born in the United States. Out of the two, Palou stands out as an exciting talent who is a three-time IndyCar champion. After conquering the American race series, he could potentially head over to F1 and make some noise. NASCAR Playoff Bubble Battle Explodes After Watkins Glen Drama

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The battle over the final spot in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs is heating up after the race at Watkins Glen. RFK Racing drivers Ryan Preece and Chris Buescher are vying for the 16th spot. At The Glen, Buescher finished third, netting him a notable points haul, while Preece ended up lower in the classification, ending the race in 13th place. Preece was upset with the result when speaking to the media, noting how tightly contested the race for a spot in the playoffs is. More Photo by"You can definitely manage those expectations, but I f****** hate losing, so it's hard to do that... I want to go to Richmond, and I want to f****** do everything it takes to win," Preece told reporters. "A lot of passion with racing, so it's nice to be in the position where I'm racing again." Preece is now 34 points behind Buescher for 16th place following the race. Buescher earned 44 points, 11 points more than Preece's 33-point haul. Even though he grew his advantage over Preece, Buescher was left disappointed not to fight for the race win, but seemed content with the weekend overall. "At the end of the day, the next two weeks need to be solid weeks," the No. 17 car driver said. "We need to go there, bring fast Mustangs — and we need to win. I keep spewing the same line because I certainly hate points racing. "While it didn't give us a bad result by any means today, you have to think it hinders your best opportunity to win. It's the situation we're in - we get it." The top 13 spots in the Cup Series playoffs are locked in already, with the bottom three spots still yet to be decided. Tyler Reddick is 117 points clear and should get safely into the playoffs after the upcoming two races. Alex Bowman sits 60 points above the bubble, sitting securely in P15 unless he has two terrible race weekends. Buescher is the former 2015 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion and has won six times in his Cup Series career, spanning 10 years. He won both Richmond and Daytona back in 2023 - putting him in the driver's seat for the 16th spot unless Preece pulls out some magic at the last two races. Connor Zilisch injury update: NASCAR driver falls after winning Xfinity Series race

Connor Zilisch's celebration of his NASCAR Xfinity Series win on Saturday, Aug. 9, quickly turned into a scary moment. While in Victory Lane following the Mission 200 at The Glen, the 19-year-old JR Motorsports driver placed his right foot on the roof of his No. 88 Chevrolet and his left foot on the window. He then appeared to lose his balance, with his left foot getting caught inside his car and twisting as he fell hard to the pavement. Zilisch did not immediately move. Medical personnel put him on a backboard and loaded him into an ambulance. He was transported to the infield care center before being moved to a local hospital for further evaluation. It was later determined he broke his collarbone. Connor Zilisch injury update Zilisch was released from the hospital Saturday evening. He offered his own update on social media. At Watkins Glen, he earned his sixth victory of the season. He remains one of NASCAR's most talented prospects and is expected to jump to the Cup Series full-time next season. Zilisch was scheduled to run the Cup Series' Go Bowling at The Glen for Trackhouse Racing on Sunday. He qualified 25th early Saturday afternoon. But Trackhouse released a statement Saturday night announcing it was withdrawing Zilisch's entry. Each car on the inside row that lined up behind Zilisch will move up a row.
