Nintendo has surprised fans with a brand new Indie World showcase for August, and here's a breakdown of everything that was revealed during the presentation Nintendo is back in the limelight with another showcase, this time catering to indie fans as it unveils a showcase dedicated to small teams crafting games for the Nintendo Switch 2 and its predecessor. After the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, we didn't anticipate any new announcements for a while. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The new showcase has now concluded, and the good news is, it was impressive. There weren't any massive reveals, but it was filled with some exciting announcements from fantastic teams, including the teams behind Shovel Knight and Far: Changing Tides who are returning with fresh IPs. Additionally, a new genre-bending game brings together team members from the development of Celeste and Hyper Light Drifter, resulting in a title that looks immersive and stunning. But what exactly was unveiled in the Nintendo Direct Indie World showcase for August? Here's what you need to know. Everything you missed in the Nintendo Direct Indie World showcase Here's everything that was announced at today's Nintendo Direct Indie World showcase: While it wasn't a grand spectacle, there were some hidden gems in the mix, particularly the release date for Mina the Hollower and a sneak peek at Neverway, which looks absolutely stunning. The Nintendo Direct Indie World was another dud – except for the last 30 seconds
Two of the best games of 2024 are coming to Switch, and one of them is out today, but the latest Nintendo Direct barely mentioned them. Thanks to Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, the Nintendo Switch 2 now has two of the highest rated video games of the year under its belt. But its future, both immediate and long term, remains unclear. Not necessarily in the sense that there's anything to worry about, but purely because Nintendo is saying so little about what comes next. We still don't have firm release dates for Metroid Prime 4, Kirby Air Riders, or Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment, and no clue at all as to what's out next year. On top of that, the third party focused Nintendo Direct from last month was a surprisingly uninspiring affair, with rumours suggesting several games were cut from its line-up at the last minute. Only a week later and today had another new Nintendo Direct, this one an Indie World variant focusing on, you guessed it, indie games. Sadly, it was only 15 minutes long and seemed to have even less reason for existing than last week's, except for two exciting announcements buried in a brief montage at the end. Since it is so short, we advise watching the whole thing, as we're sure some, if not most, of these games will turn out very well. Mina The Hollower by the makers of Shovel Knight will almost certainly be worth the long wait for it to appear, although there's not long to go now as its release date was announced as October 31. The game's a top-down action adventure that looks like a long lost Game Boy Color game, if a Game Boy Color Pro was a thing that actually existed. Animal herding game Herdling had some impressive 3D visuals and while Neverway's near monochromatic graphics may put off more people than it attracts the idea of battling to become an immortal herald for a Lovecraftian god is certainly an unusual set-up. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Herdling is out on August 21 but Neverway and a number of the other titles aren't out till 2026 or a purposefully ambiguous 'winter', so there was even less to look forward to in the short term. Puzzle game Is This Seat Taken? was the only shadow drop to get the spotlight, while a free update for Little Kitty, Big City was only promised for sometime later this year. Auto-scrolling roguelike Ball X Pit looked interesting though, and you could definitely see the influences from Vampire Survivors, which the developer openly admitted to. It's out on October 15 on the original Switch but, interestingly, not until 'autumn' on Switch 2 – hinting at the fact that many indie developers have had trouble getting hold of Switch 2 devkits to make their games on. Most of these games will be multiformat, and almost all of them will be on at least PC, although Glaciered was described as a timed Switch exclusive. It looked to be an impressively complex action role-playing game, with an unusual underwater setting. It's down for 'winter 2025', which technically should only mean December. That was the closest the Direct came to having a mic drop moment and yet it hid what was, for us, the most exciting news of the day, in a brief montage right at the end. In amongst new titles like Winter Burrow and Strange Antiquities was confirmation that two of the best games of 2024 are now coming to Switch. More Trending UFO 50 is an amazing compilation of 50 completely different games, many by different developers, while Caves Of Qud is an insanely complex role-playing game that was literally 15 years in the making. Caves Of Qud is out in 'winter 2025', while UFO 50 is out today. It's a real shame more time wasn't spent on promoting it, as surely that was the whole point of the Direct. Instead, we imagine most people will have completely missed it and/or have no idea what it is. It has a 91 on Metacritic though and we gave it 9/10 on PC, so we really do advise you give it a try. As we write this it's not yet on the eShop, so we don't know how much it is, but it was £20.99 on PC. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter. A new Nintendo Direct is due this week and Silksong fans want a release date
With Silksong expected to launch this year, fans are now hoping for an update at the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 indie showcase. After the constant rumours of a July Nintendo Direct, fans finally got one last week, only to come away disappointed by its deliberate focus on third party games, and even then not necessarily the ones they were looking forward to. For the past few days, there has been unsubstantiated chatter that another Nintendo Direct would drop shortly, although still not one for first party games. Instead, the implication was that it'd be one of Nintendo's Indie World showcases. Turns out that chatter was accurate, as a new Indie World showcase is scheduled for this week, which of course means it's time for the routine fan demands for an update on Hollow Knight: Silksong. The showcase is scheduled to air this Thursday on August 7 at 2pm and won't be particularly long, clocking in at only 15 minutes. So, either only a small handful of indie games will see any focus or nothing is going to have much time in the spotlight. As for what games will make an appearance, that's anyone's guess, since Nintendo only says there will be 'new announcements and updates on indie games coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.' The eternally absent Silksong does fit that criteria and it did make a very brief reappearance at the Switch 2 showcase in April, along with a new release window of 2025. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Naturally, Silksong fans are allowing themselves to hope even though they've been burned so many times before. 'Is it time for a Silksong announcement? Probably not but I'm still hoping to see Silksong here!' writes Victory Star on X, while a more confident ProTeneb says, 'Silksong! Let's go!! This is it guys! I know it.' Fans like Dexter Schwaerzler-Plumb and Alex Humphrey don't seem as sure, posting often used artwork of Hollow Knight characters wearing a clown wig and nose, meant to represent how the fanbase feels anytime they think a Silksong update will be shown they're proven wrong. The Silksong subreddit is just as divided, split between those willing to believe the game will show up and others who have zero faith. More Trending It's worth remembering that Microsoft has secured a marketing deal with Silksong developer Team Cherry, using the game to promote its upcoming ROG Xbox Ally handheld. Microsoft said Silksong will be available 'at launch and in Game Pass' once the handheld launches during the holiday season, though Team Cherry insists the game wasn't tied to any console release and could be out as early as this autumn. Given Microsoft's eagerness to promote Silksong for Game Pass, it wouldn't be surprising if it wants to be the one to announce the release date rather than let Nintendo take the glory, even though the publisher otherwise has nothing to do with it. At the very least, Silksong is safely locked in for a 2025 launch, especially since it's slated to be playable at Gamescom this month, with Microsoft offering a demo on both PC and the ROG Xbox Ally. These presentations usually have a wide range of titles included from multiple different genres, so players of all kinds can usually find something they'll enjoy. Join us this Thursday, August 7 at 6am PT for a new #IndieWorld Showcase! Tune in for roughly 15 minutes of new announcements and updates on indie games coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. Watch here: — Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) August 5, 2025 Typically, though, higher profile indie games aren't included in presentations like this. That means you probably shouldn't expect to see Hollow Knight: Silksong, one of the most anticipated games on the planet right now, as something of that scale would probably be saved for a main Nintendo Direct presentation. It's not entirely off the table, though — you should just temper your expectations. Curiously, Japan's version of the Indie World is listed as lasting for 20 minutes instead of the US's 15, but runtime between regions changes often, as do the titles on display. This doesn't mean Japanese viewers are getting things Western viewers aren't, though, as typically the difference in runtime is due to the inclusion of games that are already released in one region being localized for the other. How to Watch the Nintendo Indie World Presentation The Nintendo Indie World presentation will be livestreamed on both YouTube and Twitch. We've embedded the Nintendo of America Indie World livestream below, but here are the links for both in case it doesn't load:

Metroid Prime 4 will launch in 2025 on Switch 2 confirms Nintendo
As Nintendo clarifies what year the Metroid Prime 4 release date is, a rumour claims development has 'hit a snag.' Considering it was announced with nothing but a logo in 2017, Metroid fans were naturally elated to see Metroid Prime 4 (now fully titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond) make a proper reappearance at a Nintendo Direct last year, with a 2025 release window. And yet despite an appearance at the big Nintendo Switch 2 showcase in April, playable demos at several live events, and even advertisements on the London Underground, it feels like the game has vanished once again. This has naturally sparked concerns that Metroid Prime 4 is being pushed back into 2026, but while Nintendo remains coy about the exact release date the company insists that the game will launch before the end of the year. Nintendo has announced it will be attending Fan Expo Canada, which is taking place from August 21 to August 24 (coincidentally the same week as Gamescom, where Nintendo will also be present) where the public can try out Switch 2 games. Don't expect any huge reveals; it'll be focusing on games that are already out, like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, although a handful of upcoming Switch 2 games will be playable as well. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. This includes Metroid Prime 4 and Nintendo's announcement makes a point to mention that the game will be 'available later in 2025,' ruling out any sort of delay… at least for the time being. It does make sense considering Nintendo has already paid for the aforementioned London Underground marketing, that features a 2025 release date. It even originally said 'Out now', before being corrected, which some took to mean the game would drop sooner than expected. We're in August now, though, and Nintendo has not provided a more concrete date. Although it's unlikely a release is imminent, considering it would certainly overshadow the two games Nintendo has scheduled for this month: Drag X Drive and the Switch 2 Edition of Kirby And The Forgotten Land. With Pokémon Legends: Z-A locked in for October and Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment only sporting a vague release window of this winter (meaning late 2025 or early 2026), a common theory is that Metroid Prime 4 will launch in November. There's a good chance Metroid Prime 4 will also receive a dedicated Nintendo Direct, which would be the perfect place to announce a firm release date. More Trending This still begs the question of when Nintendo intends to release Kirby Air Riders, though, which has a similarly vague launch window of 2025. If the new Hyrule Warriors winds up being an early 2026 launch, perhaps Kirby Air Riders will arrive in December or also Novemeber. In the meantime, in lieu of any official info from Nintendo, some have looked to YouTuber Kiwi Talkz for updates on Metroid Prime 4, since he has interviewed staff from the game's developer, Retro Studios, in the past and claims to know some details about Metroid Prime 4's development. In what he called his final post on the matter, Kiwi Talkz claimed that Metroid Prime 4 was meant to be a launch window game for the Switch 2, but development 'hit a snag' due to what he only vaguely describes as a pair of 'anomalies'. As such, development is currently unfinished, which is why Nintendo hasn't committed to a firm release date yet. Kiwi Talkz is keen to stress that he doesn't necessarily think this means the game will be delayed to 2026, but according to him it 'all hinges on these 'anomalies' being sorted.'
