Read the full story on Modern Car Collector Koenigsegg has reclaimed a key performance record in the hypercar world, edging out Croatian rival Rimac by less than a second after refining its Jesko Absolut with updated software. The Swedish manufacturer announced that its twin-turbocharged, 1,600-horsepower V8-powered Jesko Absolut completed the 0-249-0 mph run in 25.21 seconds, surpassing the Rimac Nevera R's previous mark of 25.79 seconds. The Jesko also set a 0-250-0 mph time of 25.67 seconds, again topping the electric hypercar by roughly half a second. 12 Secret Products Serious Collectors Swear By The achievement came after Koenigsegg engineers recalibrated the car's Light Speed Transmission and engine management system while adding a new torque control program that improves traction. Dubbed 'Absolut Overdrive,' the update will be available to existing customers. 'That we achieve this level of performance with a production car utilizing a combustion engine with rear-wheel drive only — beating all four-wheel-drive electric cars in a straight line — is almost magical,' said company founder Christian von Koenigsegg. 10 Must-Have Tools and Gear for the Modern Car Collector (Amazon Edition) The record run took place August 7 at Sweden's Örebro airfield with factory test driver Markus Lundh behind the wheel. The Jesko used was the same example that set Koenigsegg's earlier record in 2024, underscoring the impact of the software improvements. While the Rimac Nevera R produces a staggering 2,107 horsepower from its quad-motor electric drivetrain, the Jesko Absolut's lighter weight and optimized aerodynamics give it a different kind of performance edge. The direct competition between the two highlights the evolving rivalry between high-performance electric vehicles and traditional combustion-engine hypercars. Koenigsegg reclaims 0–400–0km/h record from Rimac

Koenigsegg has snatched back the 0–400–0km/h record for a road legal car a month after losing it to Croatia's Rimac Nevera R. The Swedish hypercar maker set the new mark on August 7 at Örebro Airfield, where factory driver Markus Lundh piloted a Jesko Absolut from standstill to 400km/h and back to zero in 25.21 seconds. That's 0.58 seconds quicker than the Nevera R managed on July 9, and faster than Koenigsegg's previous best set in June last year. The latest run used the same Jesko Absolut as in 2024, but with fresh software upgrades the company has labelled Absolut Overdrive. Koenigsegg said the changes will be offered to all owners, promising real-world gains rather than one-off record tricks. 'The run demonstrated the power of cross functional teamwork and exceptional communication between our in-house developed drivetrain systems,' said Christian von Koenigsegg, founder and CEO. 'It's a testament to the synergies between our engineering and development teams, our cutting-edge software architecture and avant garde class leading mechanical solutions.' Conditions on the day weren't perfect. Earlier rain left the tarmac patchy and drying in places, making grip unpredictable at high speeds. Even so, the Absolut's 1,193kW twin-turbo 5.0l V8, slippery aerodynamics and revised traction control kept it hooked up. The car also posted a 0–250–0mp/h time of 25.67 seconds, trimming more than 2.5 seconds from last year's 0–400–0 run of 27.83 seconds in the same vehicle. 'Our software engineers have been tweaking and adjusting the light speed transmission and engine management system and have introduced a new torque control system which manages the grip of the Absolut like never before,' Von Koenigsegg said. 'That we achieve the level of performance with a production car using a combustion engine with rear wheel drive only, beating all four-wheel drive electric cars in a straight line, is almost magical and shows 'truths' can be rewritten.' If history is any guide, Rimac won't leave the challenge unanswered.

Koenigsegg Just Reclaimed a Very Important Hypercar Speed Record

All it took for Koenigsegg to reclaim the 0-249-0 mph record from Rimac was a few software tweaks to the Jesko Absolut. The company's software engineers recalibrated the Light Speed Transmission and engine management system while introducing a new torque control system that now allows the Absolut to manage traction 'like never before.' The changes, which Koenigsegg calls Absolut Overdrive, will be rolled out to existing customers. The Jesko completed the 0-249-0 mph run in 25.21 seconds and the 0-250-0 challenge in 25.67 seconds, beating the Rimac Nevera R by half a second. Here's how the two compare: Record Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Rimac Nevera R Difference 0-400-0 kph (249 mph) 25.21 seconds 25.79 seconds 0.58 seconds 0-400 kph 16.77 seconds 17.35 seconds 0.58 seconds 400-0 kph 8.44 seconds N/A N/A 0-250-0 mph 25.67 seconds 26.20 seconds 0.53 seconds 0-250 mph 17.18 seconds N/A N/A 250-0 mph 8.49 seconds N/A N/A The Rimac is a 2,107-horsepower electric menace to society, while the Koenigsegg packs an unruly twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V-8 that produces 1,600 hp. The two couldn't be more different, and yet only half a second separates the pair. 'That we achieve this level of performance with a production car utilizing a combustion engine with rear wheel drive only—beating all 4-wheel drive electric cars in a straight line is almost magical and show that 'truths' can be re-written,' said company founder Christian von Koenigsegg Koenigsegg broke Rimac's record on August 7 at the Örebro airfield with factory test driver Markus Lundh behind the wheel, and it's the same Jesko that set Koenigsegg's previous record in 2024 . Your move, Rimac: Koenigsegg has recaptured the 0-400-0kmh world record

Supercars New time has surpassed its own record 'and everyone else' Skip 6 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Koenigsegg has not only recaptured the world record for the fastest car to accelerate and then decelerate from 0-400-0kmh, it has also found the time to throw out a little shade. 'Beating four-wheel drive electric cars in a straight line is almost magical and shows that 'truths' can be rewritten,' said big boss Christian von Koenigsegg. Advertisement - Page continues below That 'four-wheel-drive' reference is directed squarely at Rimac and the astonishing Nevera, which only last month claimed the 0-400-0kmh record with a time of 25.79s. In July, that was 2.04s quicker than Koenigsegg managed last year in the Jesko Absolut. But it's August now, and Koenigsegg has fired straight back with a time of 25.21s in the Absolut. That's what you call a proper return volley. You might like And get this, test driver Markus Lundh laid down that time of 25.21s on a drying track following a rain shower, meaning he had to contend with what Koenigsegg calls 'sub-optimal' conditions and what calls 'bloody terrifying'. Still, complete it he did. He also reeled off a few more times while he was there: 0-400kmh in 16.77s, 400-0kmh in 8.44s, 0-250-0mph in 25.67s, 0-250mph in 17.18s, and 250-0mph in 8.49s. $4.1m Rimac Nevera R breaks 24 world records in one go

Don't miss out on the headlines from On the Road. Followed categories will be added to My News. A Rimac hypercar has smashed 24 world records, including going from 0 to 400km/h and then coming to a complete stop in just 25 seconds. The hair-raising Nevera R has been crowned the new 0-400-0 champion, breaking a slew of records in the process. In just 25.79 seconds, the electric supercar accelerated from standstill to 400km/h and back to a halt, beating the previous record by a full 2.04 seconds. Equipped with a breathtaking quad-motor all-electric powertrain, the Rimac has been labelled 'the fastest accelerating production car the world has ever seen.' Among the new benchmarks set by the electrifying ride is a jaw-dropping 0 to 60mph time of just 1.66 seconds. During its record-breaking run, the £1.8 million ($A3.4m) Nevera R hit a blistering top speed of 431.453km/h. Producing an astonishing 2,107 brake horsepower, the Nevera R soared to the top of the performance charts, according to Luxury Auto News. The dramatic improvement is thanks to a re-engineering of several major components. A fixed rear wing and enlarged diffuser generate greater downforce while enhancing aerodynamic efficiency. This was insane. Photo: YouTube The car is so fast it's blurry in the screenshot. Photo: YouTube Meanwhile, Michelin Cup 2 tires reduce understeer and boost lateral grip. These upgrades work in concert with a next-generation All-Wheel Torque Vectoring system, designed to maximise traction and handling precision. 'When we first introduced Nevera, it almost seemed like the pinnacle of hypercar performance had been reached. In a single generation, we had created a performance jump that previously would have taken decades,' Mate Rimac, founder and president of the Rimac Group said. 'But now, through relentless innovation, Nevera R goes even faster, while still maintaining much of the comfort and practicality that makes the Nevera a real, usable daily car,' he added. 'Breaking records is in our DNA, and we won't stop here.' The Nevera R smashed its own 2023 records, securing its spot at the very top of the EV leaderboard. The original Nevera already held several elite titles, including the production EV top speed record of 412 km/h, a Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb record of 49.32 seconds, and the electric production car lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife at 7:05.298. Now, there's even more opportunity for the Nevera R to go after what few records remain. 23 of the records that were broken. Photo: YouTube Limited to just 40 units worldwide with a starting price of €2.3 million ($A4.1m), each Nevera R now carries the distinction of being part of the most comprehensively record-breaking hypercar ever created. The Rimac Nevera R doesn't just edge out the original Nevera — it leaps ahead, according to CarBuzz. The performance gap is clear across nearly every metric. The R version cut 1.61 seconds off the 0–200mph time, coming in at 9.25 seconds. It also hit 0–400 km/h (249mph) in 17.35 seconds, nearly four seconds quicker than the standard model. Damn, that's insane. Photo: YouTube In the 0–250–0mph test, the Nevera R was over five seconds faster, highlighting massive gains in both acceleration and braking. It also improved the standing mile time to 19.71 seconds, shaving off almost a full second. The quarter-mile came in at 7.90 seconds, beating even the drag-ready Dodge Demon 170, and without special tires. Top speed rose from 412km/h to 431km/h, and it accelerated from 200–300km/h in just 3.89 seconds. Each upgrade shows Rimac's engineering wasn't just refined, it was reimagined.
