Manchester City open talks with Real Madrid star over move

Manchester City have taken a step forward with regards to making a move for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes a reality. The Brazilian is a long-time favourite of manager Pep Guardiola, and has been linked with a move in the past. According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky DE, City have opened talks with Rodrygo over a move. It still remains an informal step, but they have registered their interest in him, amid prior reports that they were exploring a move for the Brazil international. Plettenberg adds that they are not certain they can pull off a permanent deal for Rodrygo. No final decision on a move has been made. Why is Rodrygo open to a move from Real Madrid? It has been made clear to Rodrygo that he is no longer a key piece of Real Madrid's plans going forward, and never more so than in the Club World Cup. Rodrygo featured for just over 90 minutes across the six games Xabi Alonso's side played, and started just once in the USA. Image via Getty Images More to follow.

Premier League heavyweights initiate contacts with Real Madrid forward

Real Madrid's Rodrygo Goes has been continually linked with an exit this summer and the Premier League has been openly seen as his best option should he leave the club. The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and even Tottenham Hotspur have thus been linked with the young star and have all made their efforts to lure him away from home. Yesterday, however, saw Manchester City enter the race and thus change the entire equation. Just when it seemed like Rodrygo would stay at the Spanish capital rejecting all approaches, the interest from Pep Guardiola's side has arrived on the horizon and nothing is ruled out once more. Contacts made As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano in a recent update, Manchester City's interest in Rodrygo is serious and they have even initiated contacts with his family and agents to understand his stance and openness to a departure. Real Madrid are willing to let the player leave for a fee of over €100 million and the final decision, thus, lies in the player's hands. A move, however, is now a concrete and realistic possibility. The player's reluctance to leave at that time put negotiations at a halt, although it now remains to be seen where Rodrygo stands given the managerial change and his fall in prominence. So far, the player has continued to insist on staying in Spain and fighting for a spot under Xabi Alonso. A starting role at a top European club, however, may well tempt him and Manchester City tick all the boxes on that front. Last season, the winger scored six goals and provided five assists in 30 league games and had seven goal contributions in the UEFA Champions League.

Tottenham enter battle with Premier League rivals for La Liga sensation

Tottenham enter battle with Premier League rivals for La Liga sensation originally appeared on The Sporting News The summer exit of Heung-min Son did more than mark the end of a glittering chapter at Tottenham - it has opened up a void on the left side of the attack that the club can no longer afford to ignore. Chairman Daniel Levy, who has been cautious but deliberate in the market is now narrowing his sights on a player who has long been admired inside Spurs' recruitment department. According to AS, that player is Real Madrid's Rodrygo Goes, whose future in Spain is becoming less certain with every passing week. Tottenham have already contacted Real Madrid to request permission to speak directly with Rodrygo's representatives. So far, the winger has not expressed any desire to leave the Bernabeu, but his reduced minutes during the Club World Cup under new manager Xabi Alonso have not gone unnoticed. The emergence of 21-year-old Gonzalo Garcia and the arrival of Argentine talent Franco Mastantuono have added to the growing competition for places in the Madrid front line. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Rodrygo's preferred position on the left wing has long been occupied by Vinicius Junior. According to the same report, the financials might be the least of Tottenham's concerns. With Son gone, the club is shedding its highest wage of €11m [$12.7m] annually, which creates ample salary room. Rodrygo earns €400,000 [$462,322] a week, per Capology, a figure Tottenham could potentially meet with help from the club's new American investor. Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs now hover in Rodrygo's orbit Reportedly, before finalizing any pursuit of Rodrygo, Tottenham are focusing efforts on a move for Joao Palhinha as new boss Thomas Frank has prioritized the Bayern Munich midfielder. Once a deal is struck there, Levy is expected to escalate talks with Madrid. Liverpool are reportedly also monitoring the winger, especially after Newcastle rejected their £120m [$160m] bid for Alexander Isak. Arsenal remain in the mix but are reportedly deterred by Rodrygo's salary demands, per Arsenal Insider, after already spending £200m [$265m] this window. Real Madrid forward leaning towards Liverpool, but move unlikely

Real Madrid are not planning any more groundbreaking arrivals this summer for they have already signed enough stars to elevate the squad from last season. A big sale, however, has not been ruled out. While Los Blancos are under no compulsion to sell, moving away players who are not in the manager's plans would help the books and Rodrygo Goes is seen as one who can make a move in that sense. The Brazilian youngster, while im[important for the club in recent years, saw his prominence fall last season. Now, his future is being called into question after it has become clear that the new manager prefers a system with only two forwards. England is calling Rodrygo has always been one to prioritise the Real Madrid crest over anything else but his forced position leaves him open to considering external offers. The Premier League, in that sense, is one that tempts him and he may well move to England. As relayed by Rodra in a recent report, the club that Rodrygo is most attracted to right now is Liverpool. However, a move right now looks unlikely. What does the future hold for Rodrygo? (Photo by) The player sees the project at the Merseyside club to be one where he can shine and continue to compete at the highest level on all fronts, for the club have done well not only domestically but also in Europe in recent seasons. The hurdle, however, is Arne Slot's team's sudden interest in splashing the cash on Alexander Isak this summer which will be very fund-intensive. Liverpool have already signed a striker this summer and could well drop the interest in Isak soon, something that will reopen the door to Rodrygo's arrival. At this point, however, the move looks unlikely. The Brazilian phenom has also received interest from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and other top Premier League clubs. While the former refuse to meet his wage demands, the player does not fancy the latter option from a competitive standpoint. Given the situation, it is not entirely ruled out that Rodrygo ends up staying put at Real Madrid this summer despite all the speculations.

Arsenal eye Premier League duo as alternatives for Real Madrid superstar

With Rodrygo Goes staring at an exit from Real Madrid, Arsenal have been linked the strongest with a move for the 24-year-old attacker. The Gunners have held a long-standing interest in Rodrygo and have done their groundwork on a possible deal. However, recent reports have suggested that the Real Madrid superstar's wage demands were posing an issue for Mikel Arteta's side, who have already spent big on players like Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, and Noni Madueke. Alternatives lined up As such, The Athletic (h/t AS) reports that Eberechi Eze and Anthony Gordon have gained traction as potential signings for Arsenal – a development further distances Rodrygo from a move to the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal move unlikely for Rodrygo. (Photo by Juan Manuel) As per the report, the Gunners are pushing to sign Eze as their main target but are unwilling to meet Crystal Palace's €78 million asking price. Instead, they are willing to offer just over half of that – €40 million. Newcastle's Gordon is also under consideration, but any move is seen as complex given that his contract runs until 2030 and the Magpies are not looking to sell. What this suggests, however, is that Arsenal seem to be moving on from their interest in Rodrygo, who is expected to cost a transfer fee of around €100 million this summer. However, the Real Madrid ace has been linked with several other Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Liverpool, and most recently, Tottenham. Spurs see him as a potential face of the team should Heung-min Son depart for Major League Soccer. But a move to Tottenham does not appeal to the 24-year-old at the moment.
