Get a free Samsung Galaxy Watch - tech editor shares where to find it

Our tech commerce editor has found a way to get a Samsung smartwatch for free A smartwatch is often considered one of the best accessories to pair with a phone, a close contender to a speedy pair of wireless earphones. Whether it's the newest Apple Watch Ultra, a flagship Galaxy Watch, or a cheaper fitness-based alternative like Fitbit or Garmin. Anyone on the lookout for an Android-pairing wearable, we've found a way to get a Samsung Watch completely free. The Galaxy Watch7 BT usually retails for more than £280, but it's been slashed to £0 for Carphone Warehouse shoppers. The catch is, consumers will have to buy a Samsung mobile to claim the 2024 model. As a tech commerce editor, scouring sites for deals and standout perks is something I do each day, and it's not often you see a free smartwatch offered to shoppers - I've rounded up exactly what shoppers need to do to qualify. First up, the handset. The deal is only available on the S24 FE device, the 'fan edition' of last year's S range. As a quick background, this model is designed to offer similar features to the Galaxy S24 range but cuts back on processor speeds and sensors to justify the cheaper price. Another thing worth flagging to S24 FE shoppers, is the handsets cameras aren't as advanced as the standard S24 range. In comparison to the S24 usual £759 price - or now £659 in Samsung's sale - the S24 FE is £599 at Carphone Warehouse. But there's also the option to pick an iD Mobile plan and spread the cost across a 24-month plan - although we'd should point out that this comes with an £89.99 upfront fee. Buying a brand-new mobile isn't the only way to get a good deal on a wearable accessory. Amazon is offering a cheaper price on the fitness Fitbit trackers - this Inspire 3 model is now £58.99. The Garmin Forerunner, which is a step up from Fitbit with advanced training guidance, is reduced to £122.99 at Amazon too. The next point to flag is crucial, and not one made obvious on the shopping listing. The free watch is only available to claim to shoppers who pick a specific colour of the S24 FE mobile - green to be precise. This can be found in the small print of the Samsung T&C's - which we trailed through, here. Once Samsung shoppers have bought the Galaxy S23 FE mobile, they have 30 days after purchase to claim the £0 Galaxy Watch, of course with proof of purchase and by the July 29 deadline. And there's lots of retailer options. Personally, this is a part of the offer which I rate, as shoppers can take their own time to compare prices about the participating retailers. Which include Sky Mobile, so ideal for pay-as-you-go consumers, Very, Asda Mobile and Argos (to name a few). For those contemplating rival Sky Mobile, the handset starts at £18 per month, with data added on top. The provider is also running an offer on data anyone who picks 25GB of monthly data will get it doubled for free for a 12-month period. The only downside to Sky is its longer plans, which compared to the above 24-month iD Mobile plan, it's a much longer contract at a minimum 36-months.

New Samsung ‘anti snatch' technology aims to stop street phone thieves

It is an attempt to tackle the unrelenting wave of phone thefts, which often see criminals grab handsets from victims' hands before running or cycling away. The anti-snatch technology works using sensors and motion detection, calculating when a phone is removed from a hand violently or unnaturally quickly. The phone can then be rendered useless to thieves. 5,850 phones were stolen in Ireland last year with only a tiny percentage recovered. The cost of annual phone theft is estimated at €3.3m, according to Gardai, with three quarters of the robberies occurring in Dublin. According to Gardai figures, the average value of a stolen smartphone is €650, with savvy thieves targeting iPhones and high-end Samsungs. Three quarters of all phone thefts occur in Dublin. Peak times for phone thefts occur at weekends, with Saturday evenings particularly prominent. However, around a fifth of phones are stolen from cars, typically on weekday afternoons and early evenings. Samsung's latest move is being rolled out on its flagship phones, including the S24 and S25, as well as its folding phones. Its One UI 7 system update is required. It says that it will make the anti-theft feature available on a wider array of budget and mid-market models. Other phone brands are also rolling out anti-snatch features. Google's Android operating system, which is available on most of the world's smartphones, recently introduced a similar function. The new feature must be activated by users of Samsung and Android phones by switching on the 'anti-theft' control in the phone's settings. On a Samsung phone, you can find this under 'settings', then 'security and privacy', then 'lost device protection', then 'theft protection'. ADVERTISEMENT Samsung has also added an updated 'identity check' safety feature in a situation where a pin number may have been guessed or otherwise obtained without the wishes of the phone's owner. This requires biometric (face scan or fingerprint) logins for any changes to security settings. The company has also introduced a security delay, where a one-hour waiting period is triggered if someone tries to reset biometric logins. The measure is aimed at giving the phone's owner time to remotely lock the stolen phone from a connected device, such as a PC or tablet. Separately, Gardai recommend several anti-theft features for all phone users, including registration of a phone's IMEI number with the user's mobile operator and strong pin numbers, biometric locks (face or fingerprint) and location-tracking features enabled.

Amazon slash £100 off Samsung Galaxy S24 that offers 'superfast' performance

This model is dubbed a 'true powerhouse' and is £200 cheaper than the newer S25. Samsung is one of the most popular tech companies affiliated with Android smartphones. As the major rival to Apple, the tech firm is determined to launch the most high spec technology onto the market. With watches, tablets and earbuds included in their range, many shoppers are loyal consumers of the brand. However, while many people want the latest release to hit the market, many of us aren't able to afford the hefty price tags. Therefore, when considering buying a new smartphone, it may be worthwhile to look into slightly older models that are for sale. For instance, Amazon has slashed £100 off the Samsung Galaxy S24, which was released back in January 2024. Normally retailing for £699 for the 128GB version, shoppers will now be able to buy the smartphone for £599 in a limited-time deal. Running on the latest operating system, Android 15, shoppers can buy the Galaxy S24 at the discounted rate in either amber yellow, cobalt violet, marble grey or onyx black. Shoppers will also get to experience Galaxy AI features with S24, such as photo editing, translation and converting voice recordings to text. Samsung Galaxy S24 £699 £599 Amazon Buy Now Product Description Users will also get a crisp and clear image on the 6.2-inch screen as it boasts a FHD+ screen resolution, which is perfect for playing games, scrolling through social media or binge watching a show. The device was also created with durability in mind as it comes with space-grade Armour Aluminium and a IP68 dust and water resistance rating. Also hailed to have a smarter all-day battery that provides users with more watch time, this smartphone also boasts an impressive 50MP battery that is equipped with a three times zoom. This allows users to capture enhanced shots with vivid detail no matter the distance. However, for those who are wanting the snatch up the Samsung Galaxy S25, Amazon has also slashed £100 off the newer device too. Normally retailing at £799 for the 128GB model, shoppers can now buy it for £699 in a limited time deal. Alternatively, Apple lovers can now snap up the iPhone 14 Plus with 256GB of storage for £200 off the retail price at Argos. Normally priced at £799, shoppers can now buy the 2022 release for £599. Available in six colours, this phone features a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display and is powered by the A15 Bionic chip. Amazon shoppers have given the Samsung Galaxy S24 a 4.4 star rating. While some of the reviews are from last year when the phone was released, many shoppers were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their upgrade. One happy shopper said: "Moved up fron S22+ to this beauty. The S24 is a great phone; slim, powerful, and the migration took just 15 minutes for all apps and files from my old phone. Performance is super fast. The price deal is really good also." With another five-star reviewer adding: "I changed from S20 to this phone, works perfectly and battery lasts quite a lot. Very happy with it. The additional space is great since no sd space, but it is manageable." However, one shopper grumbled: "Great phone but needs charging a lot." While a more recent shopper said: "The phone is genuinely good, but with the release of the S25 I don't think there is a compelling reason to go for exynos variant of the S24. I mean, the performance of the S25 is much better and battery life remains comparable, if not slightly better." Despite this, one delighted reviewer noted: "Loved my previous Galaxy so much I kept it longer than usual. Upgraded to the Samsung 24 and boy, the improvements, I didn't know I needed but are sooooo good. Camera is great picture quality, charging is alternate days. "Value for money, well, this phone has so many great features to list that you'll need to buy one to know it's true performance." With a sixth shopper adding:"This is a good upgrade to my S10 with much improved battery life, responsiveness, 5G, better camera and of course updated software. So far I am very pleased with the phone, especially at the heavily discounted price!" To buy the Samsung Galaxy S24, click HERE. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Samsung shoppers can get £100 and freebies worth £240 this week

Samsung will give away £100 cashback and free Galaxy smartwatches or earbuds to Brits shopping its Galaxy S24 range, but the deal is now in it's final week Samsung has kicked off the summer with another giveaway where shoppers can get their hands on £100 and a selection of freebies. The tech giant is offering the deal to those picking up a new smartphone in the Galaxy S24 range direct from Samsung or through Sky Mobile. However, the deal has entered the final week before it expires on Tuesday, June 24. Shoppers looking to spread the cost of a new phone can get the Samsung Galaxy S24 on Sky's £25 plan, after which they can claim £100 cashback. The plan runs for 36 months with the option to upgrade after 24, but the £100 essentially covers four months of service. To get the £100 cashback, shoppers can head to the Samsung offers website after receiving their new device to submit a claim within 30 days of purchase. However, those who would prefer to buy the phone outright can get a sweeter deal, with Samsung offering £100 cashback plus a free Galaxy Watch7 worth £239 when buying direct. Samsung lists the Galaxy 24 for £699, matching the price offered by Amazon and Very. Shoppers looking to keep costs down can claim £100 with orders of the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, which also comes with a free pair of Galaxy Buds3 worth £159. This model is designed as a more budget-friendly version of the standard S24, but it has the same 6.7' screen as the larger S24+ model and 128GB of storage. The S24 FE is slightly cheaper than the standard S24, with Sky Mobile offering it for £23 when spreading the cost. Samsung has priced the same model at £649 and will throw in a free Galaxy Watch7 to those buying directly. Despite its cheaper price, the Galaxy S24 FE boasts the same 4.5-star review score as the standard S24. However, according to the Samsung website, 90% of reviewers recommend the S24 FE compared to 74% for the S24. Of the FE, one five-star review says: 'Everything about this device is flawless. Smooth and vibrant screen. Fabulous camera. "Connects fast and performs like a speedy tank. The battery could be better, but other than that. Flawless phone." Another says: 'I love my new phone it charges really quickly and lasts all day. I love the display – I can see every icon and they are easy to find. The camera is fantastic and I love the design of the phone. The performance is amazing, everything is quicker, it's the best phone I've had.' Some users have been disappointed with the S24 FE 's battery life, as this three-star review says: 'I like this phone, however, it does require frequent charging and takes far too long to charge at three hours.' But another five-star review says: 'Excellent all-round phone. Really clear, bright display with excellent battery life. "The camera is clear and provides quality photos and video. The overall performance and modern internals mean that you don't suffer from any issues, no matter what you are trying to do. All wrapped up in a sleek design makes the Samsung S24 FE a worthy choice for anyone.'

Samsung defends Galaxy S25 Edge battery and camera choices, calls it the right move

Samsung has defended its choices for the Galaxy S25 Edge's battery capacity and camera prowess, positioning them as intentional decisions aligned with the phone's core design philosophy. That philosophy, as it turns out, was to make an exceptionally thin and light phone that also offers a flagship experience. In essence, it is an ultra-phone without going ultra in while it is stacked in almost all the right ways, its 3900mAh battery and lack of a dedicated telephoto camera leave something to be desired, especially for those chasing 'big' numbers and benchmark Galaxy S25 Edge measures just 5.8mm and weighs only 163 grams, making it the slimmest and lightest Galaxy S series phone to date (excluding its foldables when unfolded). The 3900mAh battery appears to be a big trade-off for the incredibly thin profile – at least on paper – but according to Blake Gaiser, US Mobile Director for Samsung America, that is hardly an issue because, despite the smaller capacity, the phone is optimised to last 'all day' for most users and performs comparably to the Galaxy S25 with a 4,000mAh battery. 'I think enough battery life for most customers is just an all-day usage. What we've seen with this device is that it has worked as well or better than the S24 base model and very close to the S25 base model,' Gaiser said in an interview with Tom's Guide. 'As long as you can live with it from sun up to sun down without having any issues, we think that's a great experience. And personally, I haven't had much of an issue with the battery life whatsoever.'advertisementThe senior executive hinted that Samsung was exploring silicon-carbon batteries, though he fell short of revealing if it plans to use the technology in its phones anytime soon.'Samsung's always looking at every new emerging technology that's out there. So it's something that we're definitely not keeping our eyes off of,' Gaiser said while reiterating that the traditional lithium-ion battery was 'the right move' for the Galaxy S25 for the lack of a proper zoom camera, he said most users preferred ultrawide and while 100X Space Zoom was nice, many are less likely to use it every day or even every month.
