Badminton legend Lee Chong Wei receives Datuk Seri honour
FORMER world number one and national badminton legend Lee Chong Wei was awarded the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN) on Wednesday, earning him the title of Datuk Seri. The three-day ceremony was held as part of celebrations marking the 84th birthday of Penang's Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, according to Stadium Astro. Lee Chong Wei dominated world badminton for 349 weeks at the top ranking, including an unbroken 199-week streak from 2008 to 2012. The Penang native won three Olympic silver medals — at the Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016 Games — making him the only Malaysian athlete to reach the Olympic podium three times in a row and the country's most decorated Olympian. Badminton Association of Malaysia president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz received the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN), also carrying the Datuk Seri title. Sports Commissioner Suhardi Alias was among those receiving the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN), which grants the Datuk title.

RM3m boost to bring pickleball to Sibu secondary schools
THE Sibu Pickleball Association (SPA) is actively promoting the sport of pickleball among secondary school students by setting up clubs in 10 selected schools. According to SPA President and Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, the initiative aims to introduce students to this fun and interactive new sport while encouraging greater participation in co-curricular activities, Stadium Astro reported. ALSO READ: Pickleball should be celebrated in Malaysian sports arena Each student's involvement will also contribute to their co-curricular points. Schools such as SMK Sacred Heart, SMK Methodist, Catholic High School, and SMK St Elizabeth have received complete pickleball equipment sets to begin training and club activities. These sets include paddles, special balls and portable nets. SPA also plans to organise the Sibu Inter-School Pickleball Championship by the end of the year to help develop young talent and provide competitive exposure. Additionally, SPA has allocated RM3.05 million under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) to build an indoor pickleball court at the Bukit Lima Sports Arena. This initiative is expected to position Sibu as a key hub for pickleball development in Sarawak.

Mohamed Salah 'slap' on Trent Alexander-Arnold sums up their relationship
It's no secret that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah have a strong bromance, and the pair landed playful slaps on each other following the Merseyside derby at Anfield this week. Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold missed the game due to an ankle injury but was in attendance to cheer his teammates on to a 1-0 victory, and after the final whistle he made his way to the dug-out, where he embraced a number of his teammates. Curtis Jones got a big hug after impressing in Alexander-Arnold's usual right-back role, while Alexander-Arnold bumped chests with center-back Ibrahima Konate. After that exchange with Konate came a funny one with Salah, as the Egyptian lifted his right hand and playfully swiped Alexander-Arnold across his face, to which Alexander-Arnold responded by putting his hand on Salah's face. Alexander-Arnold and Salah have a famously good relationship on and off the field, and the England right-back revealed last year that his biggest "bromance" at Liverpool was with Salah. "[I have the biggest bromance with Salah because of] how long we've known each other and how long we've played together, our bond and connection," Alexander-Arnold told Stadium Astro. "On the pitch, we understand the way we play. Even though we could so many times, we never moan at each other, we just respect each other's style of play. "At times I'll overlap and completely ignore me. I know the next time if I get the ball and don't pass to him, he's probably thinking the same thing. We respect each others' play, and that's why I think our right side is one of the best ever." Salah himself recently named Alexander-Arnold as one of his best friends in soccer, telling TNT Sports: 'I have many [good friends]. Me and Eden Hazard when we see each other have so much fun. I'm close to Kostas [Tsimikas], I'm close to Dominik [Szoboszlai]. 'Virgil [van Dijk] also, because we have been team-mates for eight years, so when we sit together and discuss we always have an incredible conversation. We have so much respect for each other. 'He can't stay': Chelsea urged to perform u-turn over £25m transfer amid talk of Manchester United agreement
Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has launched a stinging criticism of Jadon Sancho following the loanee's performance in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal. Sancho started at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, playing for 76 minutes before being replaced by Chelsea youngster Tyrique George having failed to end a run of nine-Premier League appearances without registering a goal contribution. Switching over to the right-hand side after operating on the left in the Conference League win over Copenhagen three days prior, Sancho has been criticised by Gallas for doing 'nothing' despite being up against Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly. Speaking on Stadium Astro, Gallas said: "Did you see him dribble past his left-back today? No. He did nothing. "He didn't challenge his left-back opponent. He always gets the ball, does some skills, and then passes the ball back. We want to see more, especially when you are the winger." As part of Sancho's loan move from Manchester United, an obligation to make the move a permanent one in the summer for a fee of around £25million has been included if certain criteria is met. That criteria is believed to be Chelsea finishing 14th or higher in the Premier League table - which is not mathematically guaranteed yet. Regardless, Gallas believes Sancho 'can't stay' at Chelsea, thus instructing his former club to perform a u-turn on the deal amid reports they can back out of the arrangement if they pay a significant penalty to break the terms of the agreement. "That player has talent. He's a talented player, everybody knows this, but we don't know why he can't perform and can't show what he can do,' Gallas added. At Manchester United it didn't work well for him. He came to Chelsea and at the beginning we saw that Sancho from Dortmund, but then he disappeared. "I don't know what the problem is, but at the moment he can't stay at Chelsea because he has to do more. "When you play in the Premier League you have to play every game at the highest level. It's not easy, but you can't just play well for a few games and then chill out."
